June 01, 1969

Dear Dayananda,

Please accept my blessings. I thank you very much for your letter dated May 25, 1969, and I have noted the contents carefully. If a new temple site in Los Angeles is absolutely required to be moved in a bigger place, that should be your first business. For my place you may find a place near the temple, and it should be independent of any other tenants. It may be a small cottage, but it should be independent with a little compound surrounding. That will be very nice. I think there are many small cottages near the place, Hayworth Avenue. When I was walking on Oakwood Avenue there were many places there. I remember one at the junction of Oakwood and Harper. So this place, or a similar independent place, never mind how small, will be very convenient for me. I have already written to Tamala Krishna that if I am not invited to London during the month of June, then sometimes in July early I shall go to San Francisco to see the Rathayatra Festival there, and then I will come down to Los Angeles. But I have decided that I shall spend four months in New Vrindaban and eight months in Los Angeles. That will be my regular program.

Please convey my blessings to your good wife, Nandarani, and your nice little daughter, Candramukhi. I hope this will meet you all in very good health.

Your ever well-wisher,

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

Faith in God is man’s common and constant characteristic
→ The Spiritual Scientist

On examining the historical records of all types  of people around the world, it  will be obvious that    faith  in  God  is man's  common and  constant characteristic. Uncivilized forest  tribals  survive, like animals,  on animal  flesh, but  they  also worship the sun,  the moon,  huge  mountains, large  rivers  and  tall trees  as their   benefactors and  controllers. Why do they do this?  Though the soul is extremely bound up, his faith in the  Lord, his natural quality as spirit  soul,    will  gradually manifest as the  degree that  the  material covering is  weakened.

Even Within The Abdomen

"One can cultivate Kṛṣṇa consciousness anywhere and everywhere, provided he can always think of Kṛṣṇa. The mahā-mantra, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare, can be chanted even within the abdomen of one's mother."

The answer to the depression of kaliyuga
→ KKSBlog

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 27 April 2014, Radhadesh, Belgium, Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya Lila 22.142)

old carI do not have the fix for material problems – I don’t. I also have material problems – many! So, I cannot fix anyone’s material problems permanently.

Material life is a broken car. It is an old, old, broken car. Many screws keep on falling out. As a car mechanic, I could try to put some new screws in but there are other screws that are falling out at the same time. So, it is going to be a broken car even if you fix it. But we keep it on the road and we reach our destination – that is the good part.

So, we can be happy. We should not become depressed that this is the age of kali. The mercy is here in the age of kali, so if we become depressed, we should meditate on the mercy of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. That is the answer to the depression that we sometimes feel in the age of kali.

Once again the leaders from around Australia attended the annual general meeting held at Govinda Valley, which is about an hour south of Sydney. This is a twenty acre property with conference facilities that the devotees rent regularly for retreats, usually to different yoga groups.

The meeting went for three days and it was nice to have everyone’s association and hear reports of the activities going on at the temples and preaching centres around Australia. Aniruddha headed a strategic planning session that will continue and increase every year.

Iskcon Sarajevo: FFL warming-up for a big action (Album 25 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

When the floods begun, devotees proposed that we should do some prasadam distribution. Seven days ago, we were lacking in people and laksmi, but we had sincere desire. We collected some laksmi among ourselves, and on Monday started a small action in the nearest affected area: Vogosca near Sarajevo. Then miracles started to happen: more devotees took part, donations keep coming from everywhere and we decided to expand our FFL distribution. While we are posting this, devotees (along with 4 Hungarian devotees, who came last night) are on their way to city of Olovo in the Mid-Bosnia, where they will distribute some 400 hot prasadam meals in the main city square. Please keep serving, helping, donating and supporting. This prasadam distribution has just begun and it will expand. Read more ›

What happens to the graduates of Gurukula? Meet Sri Madhava Gauranga dasa
→ Dandavats.com

Q: How did gurukula training help you in your spiritual life? A: My gurukula training has been invaluable for establishing the value of self-improvement, respect, discipline, etc. Gurukula was, at the time, in an experimental phase, but although it wasn't easy I was lucky to have people whom I respected. These things helped me to see the value of spiritual culture. All things considered, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Q: What are your responsibilities in Mayapur now? How do you see their importance? A: I serve as a Dean in the Bhaktivedanta Academy. I recently also took up the service of heading the agricultural division in ISKCON Mayapur, and I am also on the Mayapur Executive Council and Mayapur Policy Council. Srila Prabhupada clearly outlined his desires for, and the importance of, the future generations of ISKCON youth. I believe that implementing this vision is of the utmost importance to the future of society in general. I wanted to share with the newer generations all the benefits of the gurukula system of education without the negatives we suffered in the early days. Read more ›

I found that it has given me a good foundation. There is a lot more to learn and realise, but the Bhakti Yoga Course provides a kick start. Go-Veg Hare Krishna Cycle Team, New South Wales, Australia
→ Dandavats.com

It has been seven years since the Go-Veg team started as the first Hare Krishna cycling team here in the Northern Rivers. Since then, they have participated in many events, both local and interstate, and are currently competing in the A Division. The members are Phalguna Krishna dasa, Narottama dasa and Sridhama dasa, who, through discipline and constant training, are able to hold their ground with the other riders. This shows the rest of the cycling community that being a vegetarian is no hindrance to performance. In the beginning, some wondered how the Go-Veg team would be able to keep up with the others, but now some of their fellow competitors have actually adopted a veg-based diet; some even eliminating meat altogether. Do not delay the practice of devotion
→ The Spiritual Scientist

Most  people think  that    they    can  enjoy  the  world now  and    worship the  Lord  in  old  age.   That, however, is unacceptable, for time  is a   precious thing  .  We should begin   to practice from the very day that we see its urgency.  Man's  life is indeed a  rare   achievement, but it is also insecure, as we cannot  say when we will die.  Thus  we should never  think  that we should not worship the Lord   when we are children.  In history we see how  Dhruva and  Prahlada received the Lord's  mercy  when they  were   children.  Is there  any  doubt that   any  human being,   being   capable   of  doing   an  activity,   cannot,   without  effort, achieve  it?   As well,  what  is practiced from  an  early  age  gradually becomes  a natural action.
