Harinama in Moscow 16 Aug 2014 Arbat St (Album 44 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

Chanting gradually diminishes the propensity to sin and simultaneously purifies the consciousness. As the inclination to commit sinful activities vanishes, taste for the holy name appears, though a faint residue of previous sinful activity still lingers on in the consciousness. The receeding sinful reactions leave an odor of sinful habit (papa gandha), but the chanter’s contact with the name engenders a strength of willpower and a purity of mind that overcomes this clinging smell of sin. Saturday Harinama in Tel Aviv, Israel (Album 26 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

As one practices bhakti, he finds materialistic endeavor to enjoy wealth and women repulsive. He follows the path of righteousness, being satisfied in his service to the Lord. He accepts only what is favorable for executing devotional service and rejects that which is unfavorable. He has absolute conviction in all situations that Lord Krsna is his protector, savior and maintainer. He is free from attachments to the body and the notions of ‘me’ and ‘mine.’ In a humble state of mind, he constantly chants the holy name of the Lord. Such a person is never again inclined to sinful activities. Read more ›

The brahmana and Lord Badrinatha

Once a god-brother asked Srila Prabhupada: “How do we attain Krishna?“ Srila Prabhupada’s answer was immediate: “By your anxiety.“ My god-brother was amazed: “Is anxiety not something material that has to be given up?” Srila Prabhupada clarified: “Not that kind of anxiety! Material anxiety is a product of the false ego. Be anxious for Krishna, not yourself. Be so eager to attain Him that all other anxieties fall away!” Read more ›

24 Hr Kirtan In New Vrindavana 2014 (Album 199 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

As faith in the Lord’s holy name becomes firm, the propensity to sin is totally extirpated. All previous sins are then dissolved, and the heart shines with positive purity. Sinful activities sprout from the seeds of sinful desire in the heart, and the sinful desire seeds are rooted in ignorance; these three (ignorance, the seeds of sin and sin) are the source of all suffering for the conditioned soul. Not being able to bear the sufferings of His dependent parts and parcels, the Lord in His infinite compassion gives them help through the process of bhaktiyoga by which the lust to enjoy the senses is driven from their hearts. All these weirdly dressed kids downtown, or in front of the fountain at UB’s Norton Union. … Of course, their neighbors love them — clean, quiet, asleep by 10 p.m.; the sort of young people who if they read, read scripture, if they write, write about Krishna, if they paint, paint Krishna followers.” Read more ›

Preaching program and Parikrama in New Vraja Dhama, Hungary (Album 63 HR photos)

If a devotee meets or even just sees the face of an unrepentent doubter of the power of the holy name, he should immediatly plunge himself, fully clothed, into the Ganges for purification; if the Ganges is not nearby, he should bathe in some other pure water. In the event that this also is not possible, he should purify himself by bathing mentally. Read more ›

Vaishnava Institute for Higher Education in Vrindavan – Spiritual Retreat in Ter Kadamba (Album 96 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

Devotees who have taken complete shelter of chanting the pure name are never prone to commit any of the ten namaparadhas. The holy name Himself protects these pure devotees who have surrendered themselves to chanting. But as long as the pure name has not dawned in the heart of the devotee, he is always threatened by the danger of commiting namaparadha. Therefore devotees in the namabhasa stage have to particularly avoid this offense of commiting sin on the strength of chanting. Read more ›

What is the role of the Kirtan leader, spiritually?
→ Dandavats.com

Bada Haridas: We could speak about kirtan for a long time. There’s way more to it than it may seem. Briefly, the kirtan leader’s role is to help people connect with Krishna and you can’t do that if you’re not connected. So really the focus is internal. Try to be present in the moment, hearing attentively, sincerely calling out, asking for service and purification, singing for Krishna’s pleasure, thinking of the Lord, and begging for mercy. Chanting is all about re-establishing our relationship with the Lord. Read more ›

Harinama in China Town, London (3 min video)
→ Dandavats.com

“The transcendental vibration of hari-nama-sankirtana is imported from the spiritual world. Thus although materialists who are addicted to experimental knowledge and the so-called “scientific method” cannot place their faith in the chanting of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, it is a fact that simply by chanting the Hare Krsna mantra offenselessly one can be freed from all subtle and gross material conditions. The spiritual world is called Vaikuntha, which means “without anxiety.” In the material world everything is full of anxiety (kuntha), whereas in the spiritual world
(Vaikuntha) everything is free from anxiety. Therefore those who are afflicted by a combination of anxieties cannot understand the Hare Krsna mantra, which is free from all anxiety. In the present age the vibration of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra is the only process that is in a transcendental position, beyond material contamination. Since the holy name can deliver a conditioned soul, it is explained here to be sarva-mantra-sara, the essence of all Vedic hymns.” Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi lila 7:74 Read more ›

Harinama in Pula, Croatia (Album 36 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

The holy name and the Lord Himself are the same. Krsna personally positioned the chanting of His holy name at the very top of all auspicious activities. He is fully independant, autocratic and omnipotent. All processes have come into force due to His energy. He invested karma kanda with his material energy, and jnana kanda with his impersonal energy. Krsna then invested of His own accord His entire personal potency in the syllables of His holy name. There is no point in objecting to these arrangements. An intelligent person will therefore carefully avoid offending the allpowerful name of the Lord. Read more ›

Queens, New York – Rath Yatra & Balarama Purnima (Album 84 photos)

Simply by namabhasa chanting one gains all the results of the paths of karma and jnana. The exaggerations in the karmakanda section of the Vedas appeal to ambitious materialists. Concessions to selfishness are absent from the scriptural presentation of the method of chanting the holy name in pure devotion. The scriptures frankly declare that the results of the karmakanda process are merely transient sensual enjoyments, whereas the results of chanting the holy name and engaging in Krsna’s service are eternal and permanent. Harinama in Jackson Heights 74 St (New York City Subway) (Album 10 photos)

In the chanting of the holy name of the Lord, capriciousness, cheating and exaggeration are shunned. For instance, when a devotee inspires someone to chant, he does so without self interested motives. He engages another in Krsna’s service only for the pleasure of Krsna. Though attractive material results of chanting the holy name may be mentioned in some scriptures, a pure devotee pays no heed to them, for he is beyond material desire. Read more ›

Sri Govardhan Parikrama (Album 77 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

Situated 14 miles west of Mathura, Govardhan, also known as Giriraj, is the sacred center of Vraja and is identified as a natural form of Krishna. The name ‘Govardhana’ has two primary translations. In the literal meaning, ‘Go’ translates to ‘cows’, and ‘vardhana’ translates to ‘nourishment’. Another meaning of ‘Go’ is ‘the senses’ and another meaning of ”vardhana’ is ‘to increase.’ Thus the name is also translated by devotees of Krishna as ‘that which increases the senses’–in their attraction to Krishna. In this connection it is believed that the personality of Govardhan blesses the devotee by increasing his/her devotion. Thus by residing in the foothills of Govardhan Hill, all the senses are more inclined to perform eternal service to Krishna. Read more ›
