Caitanya Mahaprabhu has recommended that everyone chant the Hare Krishna mantra just to cleanse the dust from the heart. If the dust of the heart is cleansed away, then one can actually understand the importance of the holy name.

The old hermit and the monks…
→ Dandavats.com
Once upon a time there lived a group of monks in an old monastery in the forest, near to a large city.
In years gone by the religious order had been so esteemed, with positions in the royal court, so much so that no person would ever pass by one of their temples or ashrams without visiting to pay most humble obeisances, to offer foodstuffs and donations and to prostate themselves in front of the deities.
But for a very long time now the religious order had declined, many people who lived in the Cities, towns and villages were so caught up with pleasing themselves that they had forgotten all about the monks. The only devotees left were these scattered old monks, ageing and diseased. And the monks in each monastery were considered by each other to be the last of their order. Read more ›

Profiles of Srila Prabhupada Disciples: Vinode Vani devi dasi
→ Dandavats.com
Vinode Vani devi dasi first met the devotees in 1970 while working for college credit at the University of California, San Francisco Hospital. She used to walk past the Hare Krishna Temple every day on her way to work and gave donations to the Harinama party in downtown San Francisco, receiving Back to Godhead magazines and sticks of incense in exchange. Being interested in Buddhism at the time, she did not visit the Temple, as she had heard that the devotees were into feasting – she was into fasting! In her hometown of Houston, TX, Vinode Vani prabhu again received BTGs, this time from Dharma-Bhavana das who was going door-to-door. Encountering BTGs once again sparked a fire in her heart, leading her to read every BTG in the University of Houston library. Within days, she went to the Houston Temple, where she met Ananga Manjari devi dasi and many other devotees. After visiting the temple for a week, she shaved up her husband and they moved into the Temple in December 1971. By early summer 1972, they were initiated. Read more ›

We chanted, danced and distributed prasadam ( 126,000 full plates ) until we could no longer stand on our two feet. Kirtans went on until 4 am each morning in a tent filled constantly with hundreds of people. Many thanks to the 700 devotees from Russia, Ukraine and all over Europe who gave their hearts and souls to sharing the blissful life of Krsna consciousness with hundreds and thousands of festival goers. Certainly the lives of those people will never be the same, and neither will ours. It was a dream come true. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Read more ›
Old BBT Newsletters?
→ Dandavats.com
For the past several months I am writing detailed memoirs of Srila Prabhupad, and there is a large chunk of history missing. From June 1971 through all of 1972 I traveled with Prabhupad as secretary, and I sent almost weekly newsletters, describing whatever Prabhupad was doing at the time, to Karandhar in LA, who would copy and include these descriptions in his regular BBT Newsletters, mailed out to all temples.
The old BBT Newsletters seem to have disappeared, even the Bhaktivedanta Archives do not have any copies.
So I am appealing to all devotees: If anyone has–or has a lead to–any BBT Newsletters from the period June 1971 through December 1972, will you kindly let me know? Read more ›

Leicester’s Rathayatra is the second largest festival in the UK, and thousands of spectators came to participate in the festival.
Leicester’s Mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, who started the procession said: “It is a beautiful visual and symbolic celebration which has become deeply woven into the fabric of our city.”
At the park, revellers were entertained with a special Mahabharat themed festival–with dance, kirtan, archery, a Bhagavad Gita drama experience, and a children’s world. Many people signed up for an introductory course on the spiritual principles of the Bhagavad-gita.
ISKCON Leicester has been on an exciting journey since their devastating explosion on Vyasa-puja four years ago. This year, the yatra will celebrate Janmasthami in the new temple, and neighbouring Town Hall Square. Read more ›

Scandinavian Rathayatra Tour 2014 – 7 Festivals in 12 Days! (Album 200 photos)
→ Dandavats.com
Dharmatma das: All told over 30 devotees joined us on this years Tour. Lord Indra blessed us with near perfect weather and more and more conditioned souls received Lord Jagannatha and
Srila Prabhupada’s mercy. We began with a small festival in Arhus, Denmark, then Copenhagen , Gotenberg, Oslow, Malmo, Stockholm and finished in the pouring rain in Allborg, Denmark. This was the 9th annual Tour organized by Parasuram prabhu. Though little in stature he is a giant in devotion to Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada. He drove the van, magically prepared sumptuous Prasadam from ingredients that manifested from who knows where. He is the architect and general. Organizing and guiding us all in this wonderful service. The Kirtans were blissful. Let by stalwarts, Maha Vishnu maharaja, Giridhari, Govinda, Sadbhuja, Nataraja, Chaitanya Chandra, Janardhana, Harinamananda, Parasuram, Hari dasi and other. We were all in ecstasy. Thousands of books were distributed by the brahmacaries from the Manor, Soho Temple and Copenhagen Yatra along with an equal amount of Krishna Prasadam. What I appreciated the most was the adherence to Srila Prabhupada’s simple process of Harinama, book and Prasadam distribution. The camaraderie amongst the devotees was heart-warming. Maha Vishnu swami led us in morning programs and inspiring stories of Lord Jagannatha. Maharaja was ever blissful even in sometimes trying and difficult situations. Read more ›

4th Annual Gita Camp Held at Houston Hare Krishna Temple

In this day and age, our lives are busy, and we are all running around with the urgency to fulfill various needs. If we have any more time left in between, we are bombarded with electronic stimulation in different ways. The sad part of this life style is that our children follow what they see around, and become attached to those habits. Our children need to be engaged in our ever blissful spiritual culture and values. The only way, they can experience this bliss, is by engaging in pure spiritual connection with the process of Bhakti Yoga. Engaging their intelligence, mind, and senses in the devotional service to the Lord.
This was the essence of the just concluded successful Children’s 4th Annual Gita Camp, held at Houston Hare Krishna Temple from July 7 – 13. Read more ›

Chanting is possibly the most visible activity of a bonafide Vaishnava. Repeating the Mahamantra quietly, individually, on a rosary of one hundred eight beads made of Tulasi wood is known as japa. It was the express instruction of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself that a fixed number of “rounds” (recitation of a complete rosary) of chanting of the Names of the Lord be performed daily, usually sixteen, although many dedicated devotees chant much more. The great saint Haridas Thakur, a contemporary and devotee of Lord Chaitanya, was renowned as Namacarya (“the Divine Master of chanting the Holy Name”) due to his chanting of not less than 300,000 Names of the Lord daily. Iskcon Hare Krishna Temple Vrindavan and Krishna Prasadam
→ Dandavats.com
Later we would go for dinner in the Krishna restaurant. I was amazed to see the simple variety of food both continental and indian food offered on their menu.
The food is simple, down-to-earth, tastes great and thoroughly enjoyable. They also serve hot milk with honey. I have never tasted such a kind of milk. It was sweet even without the honey and was simply out of the world. My personal feeling is that they must be lovingly and compassionately taking care of the cows in their gaushalas. The cows must be feeling loved, hence the milk it gives had the quality of love in it.
Even the milk sweet prasadam they serve in the temple, is really good. Whatever food they offer or serve in their restaurants, is first offered to Lord Krishna and then served to the people. They also prepare the food with a lot of devotion and love for Lord Krishna. Hence the food is infused with love energy. Read more ›
