I see scriptures as divine instruction manuals. They guide us away from excessive materialism with all its attendant stresses and struggles, and toward the peace and happiness of spirituality. The real joy we seek lies within us not without. So in future I think I will try to check my massive male ego and stick to following the manual. Read more ›

What if it’s an actual fact that God exists – wouldn’t that be a scientific fact?

Drutakarma prabhu (Michael Cremo): There’s already a lot of questioning going on. And what I’m proposing is not actually so extreme. Most people already agree with what I say. It just so happens that because of this government enforced monopoly that the Darwinists now have on the education system, it’s not a message that’s really being gotten out [in the classrooms]. But what I would like to see is some diversity. Not that just immediately these other [Darwinian evolutionary] ideas are going to be taken out of the textbooks. But in the textbooks and classrooms it should be admitted there are other ideas. The textbooks should say, yes, today most scientists believe in this theory of evolution – but there are other scientists who do not accept it – here are their reasons. And let’s have a discussion about it…let people make up their own minds, rather than having the government, through its judicial system, dictate to us what everybody should believe. Read more ›

Prabhupada Disciple Profile: Gadagaraja das
→ Dandavats.com
Gadagaraja prabhu describes the years at The Press in New York as “every second being nectar” due to Srila Prabhupada’s presence and mercy. Prabhupada had said that The Press was “his heart.” The Press moved to Los Angeles in 1974, and Gadagaraja prabhu spent most of his time there until the late 1990’s. In 1975, he participated in the two-month Caitanya Caritamrita marathon where they finished publishing 17-volumes by Srila Prabhupada’s instruction and empowerment. When Srila Prabhupada was around, there was never any impediment. Gadagaraja prabhu would also cook for Govinda’s Restaurant. Throughout the 1980’s and the 1990’s, he also spent extended time at various temples, including Vrindavan, Bombay, Paris, London, Rome, Berkeley, and Chicago. He very much appreciated the mood of European devotees. In the late 80’s, he married Seva Kunja devi dasi, a French devotee, and they had twin girls, Kalindi and Varsana. Read more ›

“If Indian young men join me, I am immediately ready for this traveling, touring from village to village and town to town. However, my foreign disciples have the language defect – they can’t speak the village language. Otherwise I would have started this program long ago. If some young men like you would join me, then along with some foreign disciples I can immediately take up this program. If you are very eager, please get hold of at least half a dozen young men like you, then with another half dozen foreign disciples I can immediately take up this program and tour village to village and town to town. It will be very, very effective. I know that.”

What is Govardhan Eco Village? (7 min video)
→ Dandavats.com
Govardhan Eco Village (GEV), a project inspired by Radhanath Swami, illustrates ‘Simple Living & High Thinking’ — a principle which is so succinct, yet profound, and formed the basis of life in the bygone age of wisdom. Life in the Vedic times was focused on service, and not on exploitation; this was the cardinal rule of living and the very essence of people’s dealings — with each other and that with Mother Nature. With the concepts of eco living being innate, the Vedic lifestyle was truly an eco friendly way of living life as instanced in the timeless Vedic scriptures like Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-Gita. Another Block on the Dome ToVP (spectacular 4 min video )
→ Dandavats.com
This spectacular four-minute video from BhakTV shows a massive crane lifting a one-ton stainless-steel panel onto the center dome of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium in Sridham Mayapur, India. The crane is accompanied by a remote-controlled miniature helicopter with an on-board HD video camera. With complementary footage from a second camera on the ground, “Another Panel On The Dome” presents a view of how the constuction of this immense dome will proceed, panel by panel. Two hundred fifty panels will be fitted into place to form a massive glittering steel dome with a base measuring over fifty meters across (150ft) at a height of 70 meters (200ft) above the ground. And this is only stage one. The steel dome will act as a base for a layer of concrete poured on top of it. The present stage is the most critical in this momentous project — a double-width dome on a world-class religious structure, the largest Hindu temple to be built in decades. Read more ›

Material affairs have been compared to an ocean of poison. They have been described in a similar way by Srila Narottama dasa thakura in one of his songs:
samsara-visanale,
diva-niSi hiya jvale,
judaite na kainu upaya
“My heart is always burning in the fire of material existence. and I have made no provisions for getting out of it.”
golokera prema-dhana,
hari-nama-sankirtana,
rati na janmila kene taya
“The only remedy is hari-nama-sankirtana, the chanting of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, which is imported from the spiritual world, Goloka Vrndavana. How unfortunate I am that I have no attraction for this.”

How will the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium look after it is finished? (Album 31 photos)
→ Dandavats.com
Srila Prabhupada’s most cherished dream for Sridham Mayapur was his bold vision for the Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir – Temple of the Vedic Planetarium. He envisioned a beautiful temple, which would bring people from all over the world to the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He also wanted the temple to be a Vedic Planetarium, which would present the universe according to the Srimad Bhagavatam, the essence of all Vedic literature and Vedantic philosophy. The Vedic Planetarium would directly challenge the accepted modern version of the universe, and establish the legitimacy of the Vedic version, as well as using science to counteract the prevalence of modern atheism. Srila Prabhupada proposed to exhibit the universe in an exposition, which would take the viewer on a journey through the material cosmos to the spiritual world; all according to the descriptions found in Srimad Bhagavatam. Srila Prabhupada wanted these exhibits as well as a beautiful temple housed in a specially built domed building. The temple would also house the Institute of Vedic Cosmology which would continue research into, and discussion of the Vedic account of the universe. Read more ›

“…another miracle occurred!”
→ Dandavats.com
After Prabhupada chanted “Narayan”, there was an eerie silence for about 20 seconds at the end. Finally Prabhupada concludes the lecture saying “Thank you very much”. After I heard the pause two or three times, I was convinced Prabhupada went into trance calling the names of Narayana. I wanted to verify my doubt so I did some research online to find if there were any eye witness to this lecture. Lo and behold I found a passage about this encounter by Satyaraja Dasa (Steven Rosen) in his book “The Agni and the Ecstasy”. Read more ›
