Sydney Ratha Yatra 2014 (Album 244 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

Lord Krishna once overheard a conversation about how His dearest devotees, the cowherd maidens of Vrindavana, were lamenting in His absence. When He heard these accounts of overwhelming love in separation, the Lord’s hair began to stand on end, His eyes opened wide and filled with tears, and His arms and legs contracted as He went into a state of spiritual ecstasy. Seeing Lord Krishna in this condition, His elder brother, Balarama (Baladeva), also began to feel ecstatic symptoms and displayed similar features. When Their sister, Subhadra, arrived at the scene, she too became consumed with ecstatic joy. Thus the sublime deity forms of Jagannatha, Subhadra, and Baladeva represent this sweet pastime.

The festival of Ratha-yatra represents Lord Jagannatha’s longing to reunite with His dear devotees in Vrindavana, foremost among them, Srimati Radharani. According to tradition, the Lord gets lovesick once a year just prior to the festival. To cheer him up, His servants arrange for Him to go on a lavish procession to meet up with His devotees. What is happening to the devotees of Iskcon Ukraine?
→ Dandavats.com

Today, Ukraine is all over the news for the worrisome events that are happening in the zone, along with government unrest and military intervention from Russia. But devotees are safe, and doing what they can to assist those affected.

Back in 1980 when Ukranian devotees Amala Bhakta Das, Kirtida Dasi, Achyuta Priya Das and Tungavidya Sakhi Dasi started ISKCON in Kiev, the country was also a troubled place, then under the communist regime. But in contrast to the situation today, back then devotees encountered extreme trials in their attempts to spread Krishna consciousness.

Throughout the 1980s, devotees were put in prison and subjected to inhuman treatment in “psychiatric wards”. One of the most prominent, Bharadvaja Das, was arrested more than 20 times and was heavily drugged in an attempt to remove his devotion to Krishna. Read more ›

Sannyasa initiation ceremony of Bhakti Gauravani Goswami (Album 27 photos)
→ Dandavats.com

Bhakti Gauravani Goswami (previously known as Vedavyasa Prabhu ACBSP), born in Germany, in 1951, met devotees in Hamburg in the summer of 1971, while doing mandatory military service. After reading “Sri Isopanisad” and receiving guidance from Srila Prabhupada’s disciples there, he became a vegetarian, shaved his head, and lived (as far as circumstances allowed) a devotional life while still in the army.
To help him focus, devotees asked him to translate the Second Canto of Srimad‐Bhagavatam into German. Shortly after his discharge, he traveled to Paris in June of 1972 to meet Srila Prabhupada and receive initiation. For the next eight years, he translated books and managed the German BBT. After marrying a Spanish devotee and arriving in Spain, in 1981, he oversaw printing for the Spanish BBT and assisted in the administration of the Spanish temples. In 1985, he established the European office of the Spanish BBT (previously, he worked through the Spanish BBT office in Los Angeles). During the next ten years, the “Srimad‐Bhagavatam” and several other books were published, and the “Sri Caitanya‐caritamrita” was translated and prepared for publication.

For the occasion of Srila Prabhupada’s centennial celebration, Vedavyasa wrote and published a book called “Srila Prabhupada and His Disciples in Germany,” which narrates the history from 1969 to 1977 and features the memories of Prabhupada’s disciples. Vedavyasa is the president of both the Malaga temple and the New Vrajamandala farm community, and the Euro RGB Commissioner for ISKCON’s activities in Spain. He is also serving as an initiating guru in ISKCON. Read more ›

Seeing the Good in Everyone
→ Dandavats.com

Haridasa Thakura Dasa: It’s easy to pick out people’s faults. We subconsciously keep track of all the flaws of all the people in our lives.
Whether someone is vain, self-centered, arrogant, petty, bitter, or obnoxious, we can easily slap a label on every person we meet. We see the faults of politicians, celebrities, and criminals, but we also know the flaws of people in our everyday lives, whether our family members, friends or co-workers…we’ve got them nailed.

It’s our nature to evaluate the person in front of us, to figure out if we can trust them or if we should be on our guard.
We should try to see people as God sees people. God looks at people differently than we do. He sees the entire life history of that person and knows every thought, motive and feeling and how he/she has changed over time. Most importantly, He sees them, heart and soul. Read more ›

To be or not to be… vegan?
→ Dandavats.com

We don’t take their milk, okay… (booming voice), “If everyone becomes vegan and like millions and millions of people in the world don’t drink milk, then the milk industry will feel it and milk consumption will go down and less cows will have to suffer for all this. That reduces the temporary suffering of the cows! Yay! We got some temporary benefit for the suffering of those cows”.

But what if we take the milk and offer it to Krsna? We give those same cows eternal benefit that cannot be destroyed by anything. Let devotees take all the milk, as much as possible, and offer it all to Krsna! In this way, give the cows as much eternal benefit as possible. The rest of the world should become vegan (laughing). We should have lots of milk, lots of it and we give milk sweets to the vegans 🙂 Read more ›
