Govinda Swami finds solace after committing a terrible mistake…
→ Dandavats.com

For the past 22 years I have lived with the people of Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Middle Asia. They are all wonderful people.

To see Europeans being shot dead in the streets brings sadness to the heart.

But upon waking this morning, with a very heavy heart, I found solace in a small book that I was given yesterday.

That book is entitled, “Crying for Krishna.” Read more ›

Giriraj Swami: The night Ram Prasad (ACBSP) left this world, he appeared in my dream. Entering his room and seeing him so ill on his bed, I embraced him, and he embraced me back, and we both shed tears of love. Then he suddenly jumped out of bed and said, “I want to go for a ride – with you.” We got into a big vehicle, him in the driver’s seat and me in the passenger’s seat, and he drove us in the early hours of the morning, until the sun was bright in the clear sky. During Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura’s visit to Dacca in 1935, a group of scholars came to hear from him, and one of them, the Sanskrit professor Sri Yukta Abhay Chandra, M.A., opened the conversation by stating that as a result of modern education, today’s students were becoming misbehaved, vulgar, and immoral, and thus it was not possible to speak to them about devotion to God, which they snorted at as if it were a laughing matter; yet without first giving religious instruction, moral standards could not be established. SB 1.11.19, Purport:

Śrī Bilvamaṅgala Ṭhākura, a great ācārya of the Viṣṇu Svāmī Vaiṣṇava sect, in his householder life was overly attached to a prostitute who happened to be a devotee of the Lord. One night when the Ṭhākura came to Cintāmaṇi’s house in torrents of rain and thunder, Cintāmaṇi was astonished to see how the Ṭhākura could come on such a dreadful night after crossing a foaming river which was full of waves. She said to Ṭhākura Bilvamaṅgala that his attraction for the flesh and bone of an insignificant woman like her would be properly utilized if it could be diverted to the devotional service of the Lord to achieve attraction for the transcendental beauty of the Lord. It was a momentous hour for the Ṭhākura, and he took a turn towards spiritual realization by the words of a prostitute. Later on the Ṭhākura accepted the prostitute as his spiritual master, and in several places of his literary works he has glorified the name of Cintāmaṇi, who showed him the right path. Read more ›

The History of Srila Prabhupada’s Samadhi by HH Govinda Swami
→ Dandavats.com

As I was running in and out of the kitchen I saw our now-departed god-brother and great cook Vibhu Caitanya Prabhu. I asked him to prepare kacoris for Srila Prabhupada’s offering. He sweetly smiled and agreed.

But in the chaos of that kitchen .. lugloo was an impossibility.

The kitchen storeroom was managed by our Japanese god-brother Sri Charana Prabhu.

As he was running to join the procession, he called out, “Ayodhyapati, “here are the keys to the storeroom .. take whatever you want.”

That’s quite a dangerous thing to say when I am cooking 🙂 Read more ›

Twenty-four Hour Kirtana Starts in ISKCON Mayapur!
→ Dandavats.com

Srila Prabhupada desired that ISKCON devotees come to Sridhama Mayapur to just chant. One former Governing Body Commissioner (GBC) recalls, “One time, during the annual Gaura Purnima festival in Mayapur, Prabhupada called his GBC men to his room. With his leaders gathered before him, Prabhupada stated that all the devotees in the world should come to Mayapur and constantly have kirtana. He was very blissful as he told them of Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s statement that he had searched the fourteen worlds but found nothing of value except the chanting of the holy names. Prabhupada said that this was Mayapur’s purpose, to come and chant. “We may have problems in different parts of the world, but they will go away if we simply come together and chant. Lord Caitanya always chanted and we could do it also. We now had a big building in Mayapur, so everyone could come and live there and simply chant.” Read more ›
