Hare Krishna! Srila Prabhupada’s one step to enter Jaladuta – A giant leap in humanity’s spiritual evolution!
More than forty years before, during their first meeting, Bhaktivedanta Swami’s guru, His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami, had instructed him to preach the message of Lord Krishna to the English speaking world. Thus, after a lifetime of preparation, at the age of 69, Bhaktivedanta Swami, later to be known as Srila Prabhupada, left for the New World not seeking riches, but to teach and distribute the greatest wealth of India and the East—knowledge of God, or “Krishna Consciousness”.

Hare Krishna! The Journey that Changed the World
It was on this day 50 years ago, Srila Prabhupada set out on a Fifty years ago, on August 13, 1965, a lone elderly monk and teacher, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami boarded the cargo ship Jaladuta in Calcutta for the one month sea voyage to New York City not seeking riches, but to teach and distribute the greatest wealth of India and the East—knowledge of God, or “Krishna Consciousness”. This historic journey introduced the Western world to the Bhakti tradition unlike ever witnessed in history before. Srila Prabhupada established #ISKCON in 1966 to share with the world the greatest treasure of God or Krishna consciousness. Today, the movement that he started, guided and inspired consists of over 700 temples, 50 Eco-Villages, 30 Schools, dozens of Vegetarian restaurants. By his limitless compassion and devotion, today the holy names of the Lord – Hare Krishna, is chanted around the world, even in places where one would never have imagined.

Hare Krishna! Srila Prabhupada’s Arrival in US – Markine Bhagavata-dharma
50 years back, Srila Prabhupada landed in Boston, USA (September 17th, 1965) Before Srila Prabhupada was our Srila Prabhupada, he was a sannyasi struggling alone, trying desperately to fulfill the desire of his spiritual master to share Krishna Consciousness in the west in the English language. He struggled tremendously to single-handedly write, publish, and distribute his Back to Godhead magazine. He established the League of Devotees in an attempt to begin a worldwide movement in India. However, his attempts were unfruitful; India simply was not accepting the message of Lord Caitanya on the scale that he was imagining.

Hare Krishna! Srila Prabhupada’s Journey Song – Video
Here is our Video offering on the historical occasion of the 50th anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s departure for America by Jaladuta ship…… This is not only Srila Prabhupada’s journey, this is also your, mine and everybody else’s journey. Imagine if Srila Prabhupada would not have gone on this perilous voyage, where would I, you and many others be today! There is a need for ISKCON members to be aware of this song as this profoundly presents the mood of our beloved founder Acharya. The extraordinary mood of surrender, presented herein, forms the basis of our institution. This might be one of the most underrated songs in ISKCON. Let us try not to loose the connection with our roots. The force of time is overwhelmingly powerful and let it not cover up these beautiful memories. At least once in his/her life time, an ISKCON member needs to put him/herself in Srila Prabhupada’s lotus shoes and see what it means to travel all the way to America, at a ripe old age, in a cargo ship with frail health and only 40 rupees.

Hare Krishna! Do You Want To Know A Secret?
Chapter nine of the Bhagavad Gita is referred to as: “The Most Confidential Knowledge” and in the first two verses Lord Krishna tells Arjuna: “The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence. This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.”

Hare Krishna! On “Society, Friendship and Love”
For Srila Prabhupada, the term “Society, Friendship and Love,” was used to refer to the primary allurement which keeps us shackled in the material world of illusion and suffering. The following excerpt is indicative of his general usage of the term: Persons who are conditioned in the society, friendship, and love, this is the attraction for material life. “Society, friendship and love,” they think, “divinely bestowed upon man.” But that, it is not divinely bestowed upon man. From spiritual point of view, it is the gift of maya. Society, friendship and love is the gift of maya, illusion. (SB 3.25.23, Lecture, Nov 10 1968)

Hare Krishna! Popcorn
Srutakirti dasa: One evening, Srila Prabhupada spoke at the University of California in Berkeley, the heart of the hippie capital. The San Francisco devotees enthusiastically received him and relished his lecture. They prepared barrels of popcorn and distributed it following Srila Prabhupada’s lecture. “What is that?” His Divine Grace asked. “Popcorn, Srila Prabhupada,” Jayananda explained. “Would you like some?” “Yes, give me some,” Srila Prabhupada said. The devotees gave him popcorn which was being distributed in little bags printed with the Hare Krsna mantra. Srila Prabhupada ate the fluffy, spiced kernels with great relish. “Oh, this is nice,” Srila Prabhupada told them. All the devotees, especially those who had cooked and distributed the prasadam, felt so much pleasure. Now they were certain their offering had been accepted and their lives were successful.

Hare Krishna! “Plain Living and High Thinking”: An English Lesson with Srila Prabhupada
Ravindra Svarupa dasa: Any student of Srila Prabhupada will at once recognize the phrase “plain living and high thinking.” It occurred frequently and memorably in his discourse. It functioned as kind of motto or slogan to epitomize Prabhupada’s vision of a natural spiritual culture, an alternative to our modern, “soul-killing” industrial civilization. Prabhupada had made use of the phrase even before he journeyed to America in 1965. In an essay (published much later by the BBT as the second chapter of the booklet Message of Godhead),

Can I skateboard for Krishna?
Answer: It depends. How can you know? Can you fly a plane for Krishna? Can you have a baby for Krishna? Can you make money for Krishna? Can you bake a pizza for Krishna? All these questions arise from one’s material conditioning, a.k.a., psycho-physical nature. Pure devotional service is not based on material conditioning, but is the purest expression of one’s very self. Srila Rupa Goswami tells us that pure devotional service is unmotivated (you don’t want anything in return), uninterrupted (you don’t do it only when it’s convenient or you feel like it; neither is it impeded by any material cause), and favorable (Krishna has to be pleased by it). The point of being a devotee is to do what is pleasing to Krishna. The only way to really be sure is to consult the spiritual master. If you don’t have one, then you are left with figuring it out on your own, or asking on Facebook. If you get ten different answers here, how will you know which one is right?

It all started in Boston!
Srila Prabhupada first set foot in the West fifty years ago, after a 35 day journey from Calcutta. Steamship Jaladuta reached Boston’s Commonwealth Pier at 5:30 am on September 17, 1965. He reached Boston’s Commonwealth Pier in hopes of fulfilling the order of his spiritual master. It was here in Boston that he wrote “Markine Bhagavata Dharma” – “Teaching Krishna Consciousness in America”. Being a pure devotee of Sri Krishna, Srila Prabhupada prayed, “I wish that You may deliver them. Therefore, if You desire their deliverance, only then will they be able to understand Your message.” Srila Prabhupada has given us an amazing gift, the gift of knowing Krishna and chanting His Holy names. Please join us in celebrating not only his arrival, but his life and teachings as well. This is a great chance for devotees to show their heartfelt gratitude for the love and compassion Srila Prabhupada had for all of us. New Gundicha dham invites you to please join us in celebration and glorification of Srila Prabhupada 50th arrival festival on September 19th and 20th 2015.

Hare Krishna! Congregational Development In ISKCON
Kripamoya Dasa: Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu took sannyasa simply to reach out to those who would only take His messages seriously if He did so. The Six Goswamis of Vrindavan were known as the greatest philosophers, and yet they took the time and trouble to extract the essence from all the dharma sastras in order to convey a simple message to ordinary people. The result was that common people were able to follow their simplified teachings, and loved them for giving them Krsna. It is perhaps interesting to note that even though the Six Goswamis were usually depicted wearing nothing but loincloths and discussing Krsna underneath the trees in Vrindavan’s forests, they nevertheless developed between themselves an organisation involving many devotees, all with their own specialised areas of responsibility.

Hare Krishna! Ancient Egypt – The Ratha Yatra And Mount Meru
According to Egyptian texts this universe is produced from the primordial waters at the beginning of creation. From these waters a mound is produced and from this mound a lotus flower travels up to the top of this universe upon which Ra, the great sun God appears. Now this of course is the same account we find in the Vedas, a lotus appears from the navel of Lord Visnu residing upon the causal ocean and upon this lotus Lord Brahma appears and proceeds to create this universe. The mound which appears, according to Egyptian sacred texts, is none other than Mount Meru, the Vedic abode of the Gods. According to Egyptian cosmology, the pyramids we see in Egypt represent this mound which sprang from the primal waters.
