My wife showed an equal disinterest in religious matters. Although she would attend religious functions held in her village, her main purpose was to entertain herself with some singing and dancing that’s all. But one day, in 2008, she met an ISKCON devotee who hailed from our village. This devotee was trying to establish Krishna consciousness here, and my wife was very much influenced by him. Indradyumna Swami: The skinheads moved quickly into the crowd of dancing young people and stood there for a moment, as if waiting for a signal. The security men moved toward them. Sri Prahlada and the band, oblivious to the danger, were singing another song which contained the maha-mantra and the drummer played a driving beat. I jumped onstage—it would be a good vantage point if there was a fight—when to my amazement, I saw some of the skinheads begin to tap their big black boots to the music. Then, as our powerful sound system carried the maha-mantra far and wide, some of the skinheads stood there as if dazed, then slowly but surely repeated the words of the mantra.

World Alliance of Religion’s Peace Dialogue was conducted on Monday 23/03/2015 in Pannasastra University of Cambodia Siem Reap Campus. The meeting was attended by different faiths as Buddhism represented by a number of monks from monks from pagoda in Siem Reap, some Moslem, Baha’I Community, and ISKCON Cambodia represented by HG Kala dasa Vanacari Prabhu. HG is Srila Prabhupada disciple from Canada who has been preaching in Cambodia since 2013.

Our original existence there is also on the edge of a razor – there is no room for inattentiveness or imperfection. On Saturday, March 14, the first TOVP program was inaugurated at New Raman Reti Dhama in Alachua, Florida, America’s largest devotee community. A packed temple room of 300+ devotees from all over Florida had come and were engaged in ecstatic kirtan while having darshan of Lord Nityananda’s Padukas and receiving Lord Nrsimhadeva’s Sitari on their heads from Jananivas prabhu’s own hands. After the kirtan Mukhya dasi, the Temple President, welcomed all the devotees and introduced the TOVP Team, and turned the program over to Radha Jivan prabhu.

At least one hundred Prabhupada disciples, including several who helped build Krishna Balarama Mandir, are attending the epic five-day celebration of the Vrindavan temple’s 40th anniversary from March 24th to 28th 2015. They are recalling the even grander original opening festival from April 16th to 27th, 1975. Attended by 1,000 devotees, it was the culmination of a ten-year struggle by ISKCON founder Srila Prabhupada to get a temple established in the sacred village Lord Krishna grew up in – something he saw as an important need especially for foreign devotees. I remember years ago my sister arguing with my mum and dad. “How can we eat animals? Isn’t it cruel?” Don’t be silly, she was told; they are meant to be our food. What else is the point of their existence? But the Vedas tell a different story. Like any human, animals are living beings in this world trying to enjoy. Just our bodies differ, but our basic desires are the same. We all want happiness. Sometimes, due to the nature of our desires, we may be obliged to accept an animal body. In fact the word used in the Vedas for meat is mamsa, which means, “you shall be me (if you eat me).”

ISKCON Leicester welcomes King Richard III back to the City of Leicester The final journey of the last Plantaganet King Richard III took place on Sunday 22nd March. The historic procession, which travelled throughout the County of Leicestershire came to a climax in the City Centre, just a few metres from ISKCON Leicester. The procession coincided with the Centre’s Sunday program so devotees took the opportunity to welcome many new guests who had travelled into the City from all over the world. They chanted throughout the event, and also read from the Srimad Bhagavatam passages about Kings in the Vedic tradition. “ISKCON Leicester is fortunate to be in a City Centre location. Though others before Karl Marx had promoted the idea, he made it famous: “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.” What does the religion-as-opium argument imply? Galtare Village is the home of Radhanath Swami’s project, Govardhan Eco Village, a model farm community and retreat center highlighting the importance of spiritual ecology. The procession, with a chariot carrying a Deity of Krishna, passed through the narrow streets of the village, as 2000 villagers pulled the chariot, sang kirtan and danced joyfully.

Is your teenage son spiritually inclined? Is he one of those kids who like to be active in devotional service? He wants a more meaningful life and he wants good, fun friends to share it with. To those youngsters, normal life in the west can assert much unnecessary pressure and anxiety.
