Mayapur community (Album 28 photos)
The mango fruit is different from the name of the mango. One cannot taste the mango fruit simply by chanting, “Mango, mango, mango.” But the devotee who knows that there is no difference between the name and form of the Lord chants Hare Krishna, and realizes that he is always in Krishna’s company.
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10.2.36 Purport).

Cultural Programme at ISKCON Delhi : 08-11-2014 (Album 29 photos)
“O Lord,” the demigods say, “the impersonalists, who are nondevotees, cannot understand that Your name is identical with Your form.” Since the Lord is absolute, there is no difference between His name and His actual form. In the material world there is a difference between form and name. (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10.2.36 Purport).

Comparing one’s own suffering to the suffering of others, one should be kind to all living entities. Once cannot avoid the sufferings inflicted by providence, and therefore when suffering comes one should fully absorb oneself in chanting the Hare Krishna mantra. (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 7.15.24 Purport)

Krishna katha at the Radha Gokulananda temple (Album 70 photos)
Indradyumna Swami: The day after our last Kartika parikrama we all assembled at the Radha Gokulananda temple to share our memories and realizations. There was laughter, joy, amazement… and a touch of sadness as well. Sadness with the realization that a month spent in each other’s loving association, hearing the pastimes of the Lord, chanting His glories and seeing His transcendental forms in so many temples was finally over ….

The Vrajavadhus at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh (Album 12 photos)
The Vrajavadhus were excited to be with the loving devotees at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh. Their enthusiasm in sharing the holy names extinguished our withered heart’s quench. Their jubilance sprang forth many oceans of transcendental waves that flowed from their hearts to ours.
We are truly grateful for their kindness and hospitality. Their love that embraced us once again.
We pray to remain eternally engaged in the loving service of such merciful Vaishnavas. Thereby somehow gain the special favor of Sri Nama prabhu.
Thank you dear devotees at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh, for accepting us in your association and service. We pray to Srila Prabhupada to we may please you.
“O sun of the Holy Name, even the dim light of Your early dawn ‘namabhasa’ devours the power of the darkness of the material world and gives those who are blind to the truth the insight to follow the path of pure devotion to Krishna. What learned person in this world can possibly fully describe Your transcendental glories?”

They were very impressed to see how everything is progressing nicely and how quickly the construction is going. Anybody who comes to the construction site can now get a clear picture of the temple as its transcendental form takes shape, how grand it looks, and how much we have achieved in such a short period of time – from 2010 when the construction started.

The pristine beauty of Saubhari Muni’s ashram (Album 136 photos)
Indradyumna Swami: The pristine beauty of Saubhari Muni’s ashram in the countryside, just on the banks of the Yamuna river, is a perfect replica of what all of Vrindavan must have looked like hundreds, or even thousands, of years ago. We relished hearing and chanting in the sanctified atmosphere of that holy place realizing that our Kartika parikrama is almost over. We are all wondering how we will ever leave Vrindavan! But we know must, if only to share our good fortune with others.

Annakut at Govardhan Hill (Album 49 photos)
Today we had an amazing Annakut offering to Govardhan just nearby. A large group of devotees from Tirupati cooked so many preparations at the ISKCON Palace and brought them to the place, on the eastern side of Govardhan on about 10 flat bed rickshaws. One by one the devotees took their offerings, all nicely covered in new cloth, and placed them on an altar of new cloth on the ground. More new cloth was held above the offerings to protect them from sun and dust. While a large kirtan party sang, the offerings were all prepared, then HH Bir Krishna Maharaja did the offering to Giriraja. Then all the preparations were loaded back onto the rickshaws and taken back to the Palace for a huge feast. I sat in the Temple in an area reserved for sannyasis etc. HH Dhanurdhara Swami was there as well as another famous ISKCON Maharaja. They started serving the feast. So many preparations were coming. One after another, more and more. It was incredible. I kept thinking that I can’t possibly allow them to put any more prasadam on my plate, because it would be an offence not to eat it all. But the devotees would come around with new preps, and just put it on the plate anyway. Finally I felt I was making some headway, and I did manage to clear my savouries plate. But the three sweet bowls I decided to keep for later. I distributed a few fried preparations to the beggars outside. What struck me as most amazing is that I ate so much, yet I didn’t feel any indigestion at all, nor did I feel sleepy or tired all afternoon. It’s now after 9pm and I still feel wide awake! Anyway, it was a very sweet festival. Will post some pics tomorrow. Giriraja Maharaja Ki Jai!

Jaipur, ‘The City Of Victory’ (Album 225 photos)
Indradyumna Swami: The final album of our parikrama to Jaipur takes us to various spots throughout the city; the famous Amber Palace on a mountain overlooking the city, to Kanak Vrindavan where Radha Madhava, the original deities of Jayadeva Goswami, are worshipped and to a house program at a devotee’s home. Everywhere we continued kirtan and katha as we explored the “City of Victory” and it’s historical and devotional significance.

ISKCON Congregational Development Ministry Damodara Newsletter.
An initiative started by the Malaysian devotees over a decade ago enabled them to reach over 100,000 people last year. ISKCON’s Congregational Development Ministry wants to offer you the opportunity to celebrate this pastime, not only at the temples, but by going out to people’s homes and public places, involving as many people as possible. This program encourages the collective participation of congregations by suggesting a combined effort in reaching out to others. It has been an outstanding success in many Yatras around the world. The idea of the program is simple: to encourage devotees to create visiting teams and perform the Damodara worship (offering of candles, singing the Damodara-song and hearing the narration of the pastime) in as many places as possible. This is a great opportunity to establish and cultivate new contacts and strengthen previous ones. Please read on to learn about the glories of this Damodara month and the exponential scope of this simple but effective program.

Writing on Palm Leaves: A Brief History.
Paper is has been used in India only for about a thousand years. Before that the main writing materials were birch-bark, palm-leaves and copper-plates.
Palm-leaf has been one of the most important materials used for writing purpose in India historically. The palm tree, which gives palm-leaves for manuscripts, is of two types — Shritala or talipot palm (Corypha umbraculifera) and Kharatala or tad or palmyra palm (Borassus Flabelliformis).
The former gives leaves that are long, smooth and supple. This species of palm grows abundantly on the Malabar coast, in Bengal, Myanmar and Ceylon.
The Kharatala or tad leaves, on the other hand, are thick and they have a tendency to break very easily. The fibres of the Shritala leaves are more resistant to decay than the Karatala leaves. It is because of these reasons that Shritala leaves have been preferred to Kharatal leaves for writing manuscripts.
To prepare palm-leaves for writing they were first dried, boiled in
water and then dried again. Then they were smoothened and polished
with a stone or conch-shell. The leaves were then cut to size, which
varied from 15 cms to 1 metre in length and 2 to 10 cms in breadth.
The method of using pen and ink on palm-leaves was used mostly by the Vaishnava Acharyas.
Palm leaves could not be bound. One or two holes were bored in the leaves and then cords were passed through them. The manuscripts were generally placed between two wooden boards and the cord passing through the holes were wrapped round the boards.

“Urge for Urj”
“Urge for Urj” is what devotees in Dallas say when they are longing to hear kirtans lead by Urjasvat.
About a year ago I received a phone call from the temple line. It was an older gentleman and he had many wonderful questions regarding Krishna Consciousness. He told me his very nice life story about how in the 70’s he joined the temple for perhaps 8 months and had the time of his life. He said that Urjasvat Prabhu was his Bhakta Leader (spiritual coach) at the time and that he really valued that time he spent with Urjasvat Prabhu. At the time he was just getting out of the military and was getting much more interested in spiritual life. At some point he moved out of temple due to some previous attachments but later became ordained as a Catholic priest. His said that it was only due to remembering the instructions of Urjasvat Prabhu regularly that he was able to stay a celibate Catholic monk for 11 years. He said, “Urjasvat Prabhu may or may not remember me but I know that when I die and leave this world I will probably be thinking of him.” This gentleman called again a month ago and randomly came across me, he was calling temples to chit chat about Krishna. In his call he lamented about not being able to make advancement and surrendering and was comforted when he was told that Krishna is very kind and looks for any excuse, without breaking the rules, to take us back to the spiritual world. This is what the Lord revealed to Gopa Kumara in the Brhad Bhagavatmrta. This story and another one as well brought him to tears of joy, jaya. His 3 children are all grown up and he is now getting more encouragement in chanting Japa. He was a very pleasurable man to speak on the phone with.
