Between May 7-10th 2018, the European Council of Religious Leaders (ECRL) holds its annual conference in Budapest, Hungary.
The European Council of Religious Leaders consists of senior religious leaders from Europe’s historical religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam together with Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs and Zoroastrians. ECRL is one of five regional Interreligious Councils within the Religions for Peace global network. Religions for Peace – accredited to the United Nations – is the world’s largest and most representative multi-religious coalition advancing common action for peace since 1970.

TP Jagjivan took me in one evening and even though it was late, there were people having their dinner there. I was fortunate enough to get a sample serving of the delicacies on offer, which I enjoyed very much.

Indradyumna Swami: Towards the end of our Russian tour we visited the devotees in St. Petersburg, the cultural capital of the country. In 6 weeks we had traveled over 10,000 kilometers from the far eastern city of Vladivostok. St. Petersburg was built over 300 years ago by Peter the Great. Our devotees have been active in the city since the late 1980’s. As everywhere we immersed ourselves in Krsna katha and endless kirtans!

Along with the summer heat comes storms! We had two devastating storms this month, first a hail storm with golf ball sized hail, and then a dust storm! Somehow, by Srimati Radhika’s mercy, our crew, ladies, and facilities were unscathed despite the many fatalities, injuries and damage in the area. Cleaning and prasadam distribution steadily continued, and we are making plans to start feeding up to 150 ladies starting in July. Srila Prabhupada: Srimad-Bhagavatam is the easiest way of directly approaching Krsna. Isvarah sadyo hrdy avarudhyate ‘tra krtibhih susrusubhis tat-ksanat (SB 1.1.2). Diverting even a little of one’s attention toward Krsna and activities in Krsna consciousness immediately enables one to achieve the highest perfection of life. This is the purpose of the Krsna consciousness movement. Lokasyajanato vidvams cakre satvata-samhitam (SB 1.7.6). The secret of success is unknown to people in general, and therefore Srila Vyasadeva, being compassionate toward the poor souls in this material world, especially in this age of Kali, has given us the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Srimad-bhagavatam puranam amalam yad vaisnavanam priyam (SB 12.13.18). For Vaisnavas who are somewhat advanced, or who are fully aware of the glories and potencies of the Lord, Srimad-Bhagavatam is a beloved Vedic literature. After all, we have to change this body (tatha dehantara-praptih [Bg. 2.13]). If we do not care about Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, we do not know what the next body will be. But if one adheres to these two books – Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam – one is sure to obtain the association of Krsna in the next life (tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mam eti so ‘rjuna [Bg. 4.9]). Therefore, distribution of Srimad-Bhagavatam all over the world is a great welfare activity for theologians, philosophers, transcendentalists and yogis (yoginam api sarvesam [Bg. 6.47]), as well as for people in general. –From Srila Prabhupada’s purport to SB 10.12.7-11

One may die at any time; so postponing one’s spiritual life is very risky. Therefore one should take the opportunity now to advance in Krsna consciousness. That is the purpose of this Society: to give everyone a chance to begin Krsna consciousness at any stage of life. Sankirtan warriors, tell me something, how do you feel when you distribute Srila Prabhupada books? Even if you are tired and you are almost giving up, after trying the entire day but the moment you distribute one book, the pleasure and heart satisfaction that is derived from it, will inspire you to keep distributing more and more books. It is the feeling of spiritual bliss that you have to experience yourself!
Today (6 May 2018) the devotees of SJMKL did book distribution activities in conjunction with the festival of Kumbha Ambhisegam at Krishna temple, Brickfields. Despite the scorching heat, it didn’t stop the devotees from speaking to someone about Krishna and distributing Srila Prabhupada books. Srila Prabhupada had said that the secret of spiritual life is to manifest the desire of the previous Acharyas. Many of times, Srila Prabhupada has mentioned on how important is book distribution, how it is pleases his spiritual master Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, how does it please Srila Prabhupada whenever someone gives him book distribution report and most importantly how much benefits does a person derive from reading these books.
Especially today, the crowd obtained so much spiritual benefits; they watched the ceremony, they get the sprinkles of the abhisek water and most importantly they got themselves Srila Prabhupada’s books. By Lord Caitanya’s mercy, we distributed many Bhagavad Gita and Krishna books and that brings us to a letter written by Srila Prabhupada to Jananivas prabhu on 5 March 1971 “Our book distribution program is most important work. Anyone reading our Krsna book, Teachings of Lord Caitanya, Nectar of Devotion and Bhagavad Gita As It Is, is surely to become a Krishna Conscious person. Therefore somehow or other we must push on this literature distribution program, either through schools, college, libraries, life membership programs or ordinary sales.”
We would like to thank the President of Krishna Temple, Mr. Thanga Perumal for being very kind to give us a stall and allow us to do book distribution activities. Thanks to all the wonderful devotees who came forward to help and to do this most essential service that pleases the Lord Caitanya and the Acharyas! Brhad Mrdanga Ki! Jai!

GREAT MOMENTS IN HYDERABAD
May 6, 2018 – By Visnuswami Dasa, leader of the Andhra Pradesh/Telangana Padayatra
In the Hyderabad area we feel very satisfied as many people are welcoming us and asking us to come again and again. We went on harinama in many places, including slums and some newly developed colonies where thousands of families from all over India have settled down. At the Sarasvati Sishu Mandir High School of Badangipet, we gave a small lecture after which we distributed Srila Prabhupada books to one hundred students and their teachers.
Right now we are in Vanasthalipuram near Hyderabad, facing the hot weather, which we try to escape by walking mostly in early mornings and evenings when it’s cooler.

S.M.A.R.T Parenting.
Romapada Swami: Parenting is an integral part of Krishna conscious householder life (gṛhastha āśrama). Genuinely Krishna conscious parents, together with their happy well-rounded children, provide a huge impetus within the broader society at large to develop an appreciation and a deeper interest in Krishna consciousness. Moreover, when the family unit is strong, the members of such a family naturally become effective preachers. The foundation of a strong family unit rests upon and derives strength from transcendental sound vibration – hearing Krishna-katha and chanting Hare Krishna.
Knowing the role and duties of a Krishna conscious parent and how to effectively accomplish the goals of parenting is an essential foundation for developing a Krishna conscious family, and in turn community. To this end, I will summarize some essential aspects of Krishna conscious parenting via a simple acronym called S.M.A.R.T, hopefully helping parents easily remember and apply these concepts in their day-to-day lives. The S.M.A.R.T approach may also help parents evaluate themselves on a periodical basis. From time to time, one could introspect or have a conversation with one’s mentor – “Am I a S.M.A.R.T parent? How can I improve in this important area of my service? What resources do I need?” and so on.

‘People power’: Hare Krishna faithful pull four-tonne chariot through Brisbane streets.
A four-tonne rainbow wooden chariot was pulled through the heart of Brisbane on Saturday, as a celebration of joy and peace organized by the Hare Krishna community.
Thousands flocked to King George Square following the loud and lively parade through the city streets to celebrate the Festival of Chariots, which began in India 5000 years ago.
The day is a spiritual event that involves pulling giant statues of deities through the city and is symbolic of Krishna coming out of his temple to see his people.
Festival co-ordinator Chintan Gandhi said the “people powered” event had been running in Brisbane for the past five years and was also held in major cities across the world.
“The significance of it is bringing peace and joy to our hearts. It’s practiced in ancient India and now happens in all major cities in the world,” he said.

Bhakti Charu Swami presents his plans for the Deland, Florida project. These include organic farming, cow protection, an Ayurvedic clinic, eco-friendly homes, and a Vedic temple, as well as regular retreats.
Over the past few years, the ISKCON Ministry for Cow Protection and Agriculture (IMCPA) has been bringing ISKCON farms together for biannual continental conferences. Now, the Ministry is beginning strategic planning meetings every other year, to foster team building. The first will see delegates from farm communities all over North America come together to connect face to face, determine a collective direction to head in, and strategize how to get there. The meeting will take place on June 25th and 26th in Deland, Florida, a new 116-acre project run by Bhakti Charu Swami’s Veda Foundation, two hours’ drive from Alachua.

Vrajendranandan Das: Today morning, May 4th, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science and Technology, Government of India, launched the book, “Values of life” (volume 4) at his residence. This children book is written and compiled by Ajita Govinda Das from ISKCON Delhi. This series of books (Values of life) is already introduced as a Moral science subject in some of the public schools across India. These books wonderfully explain the teachings of Srila Prabhupada in a secular way with the help of beautiful illustrations.
