Hare Krishna!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!
On the auspicious occasion of  Siva Ratri coming Friday  – 28th Feb 2014 , there will be a grand celebration at ISKCON Scarborough where Lord Siva who is the greatest of all Vaishnavas will be honoured.
The schedule is as follows:
6.45 pm – Tulasi Arti
7 pm – Abhisheka (bathing ceremony) for Lord Siva
7.30 pm- Class on the Glories of Lord Siva
8.15 pm- Arati
8.45 pm- 1 round group chanting of the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra
9 pm – Free vegetarian feast (prasadam)
Quotes from Hari Bhakti Vilas of Srila Gopal Bhatta Goswami, and the Dikdarshini Tika of Srila Sanatan Goswami
SIVA RATRI VRTAM KRSNA CATUR-DASYANTU PHALGUNEVAISNAVER API TAT KARYAM SRI KRSNA PRITAYE SADA(HARI BHAKTI VILASA 14/187 from GAUTAMIYA TANTRA)
On the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Phalguna (February-March), for the pleasure of Lord Sri Krsna, a Vaisnava should always take a vow to fast. (It is called Siva Ratri, or the night of Lord Siva.)
PARAT PARATARAM YANTI NARAYANA PARAYANAHNATE TATRA GAMISYANTI YE DVISANTI MAHESVARAM(HARI BHAKTI VILASA 14/189 from KURMA PURANA the Supreme Lord speaks to BhrguMuni)
(One who avoids fasting on Siva Ratri or the “night of Lord Siva”, he becomes very offensive. Whatever offenses one accumulates by not fasting on Siva Ratri day is explained here.) The destination of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Narayana, is certainly in the spiritual world. But if one is envious of Lord Sri Siva, he does not attain the spiritual world.
SRI KRSNE VAISNAVANANTU PREMA BHAKTI VIVARDHATEKRSNA BHAKTI RASA SARA VARSI RUDRA ANUKAMPAYA(HARI BHAKTI VILASA 14/221 from SKANDA PURANA)
Being a Vaisnava, if somebody fasts on Lord Siva’s night (Siva Ratri day), by the mercy of him (Lord Siva) who is diving in the ocean of the mellow of devotion to Krsna, one’s devotion to Krsna increases rapidly.
We warmly invite you, your family and friends to take part in the special celebrations coming Friday at ISKCON Scarborough

Lord Nityananda Prabhu’s Appearance Day Celebrations – Friday- 14th Feb 2014‏
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!

Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

The appearance day of Lord Nithyananda Prabhu will be celebrated with pomp and gaiety at ISKCON Scarborough coming Friday – 14th February 2014.

Lord Nityananda Prabhu, whose name literally means, “eternally blissful”, appeared around 1474 AD in the village of Ekachakra, near Mayapur, West Bengal.

He is the eternal companion of Lord Caitanya and both are worshiped together as are Krishna and Balaram. In the same way that Lord Balaram is considered the original spiritual master, so is Lord Nityananda.

Lord Caitanya is the most merciful incarnation of Lord Krishna, but Lord Nityananda, however, is even more merciful and compassionate than Lord Caitanya.

No service is too small to go unnoticed by Lord Nityananda, and no sinner too bad not to qualify for his benedictions. Lord Nityananda gives the mercy to understand and approach Lord Caitanya, who in turn gives the mercy to approach Srimati Radharani, who blesses us with love of Krishna. So the worship of Lord Nityananda is most important to Gaudiya Vaishnavas seeking the mercy of Radha-Krishna.

Please come to celebrate with us the Lord Nityananda Prabhu’s appearance day at ISKCON Scarborough coming Friday

Program on Feb 14th 2014 – Friday

6.30 pm to 6.45 pm – Tulasi puja
6.45 pm to 7.15 pm – Grand abhishek will be performed on Gaura Nitai deities

We have 2 very auspicious events happening on the same day coming Thursday- 12th December 2013

– Advent of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita(Gita Jayanti)
– Moksada Ekadasi

We at ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating Gita Jayanti in a grand manner on Friday 13th December 2013 by reading the 700 Sanskrit verses starting at 6.30 PM sharp!

On the auspicious occasion, we welcome you, your family and friends to join us at ISKCON Scarborough to recite all the 700 Sanskrit Bhagavad-Gita verses and to partake the blessing of Sri Sri Radha Gopi Vallabha

Advent of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita(Gita Jayanti)

It was on this day over 5000 years ago, that Sanjaya narrated to King Dhritarashtra the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra at the place now known as Jyotisha tirtha, and thus made the glorious teachings of the Lord available to the people of the world, for all time.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita shows a way to rise above the world of duality and the pairs of opposites, and to acquire eternal bliss and immortality. It is a gospel of action. It teaches the rigid performance of one’s duty in society, and a life of active struggle, keeping the inner being untouched by outer surroundings, and renouncing the fruits of actions as offerings unto the Lord.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita is a source of power and wisdom. It strengthens us when you are weak, and inspires us when you feel dejected and feeble. It teaches us how to resist unrighteousness and follow the path of virtue and righteousness.

The teachings of the Gita are broad, sublime and universal. They do not belong to any particular cult, sect, creed, age, place or country. They are meant for all. They are within the reach of all. The Gita has a message for the solace, peace, freedom, salvation and perfection of all human beings.

Anyone who gifts a Bhagavad-Gita to a deserving person on this day is bestowed profuse blessings by Lord Krsna.

ISKCON Scarborough – Govardhan Puja celebrations – 108 different varieties of Bhoga to be offered
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!

Please accept our humble obeisances!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

The devotees of ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating Govardhana Puja tomorrow- Friday- 8th Nov 2013 starting at 6.45pm.

On this auspicious day, 108 different varieties of Bhoga will be offered to Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Krsna in the form of Govardhana Hill.

The story behind Govardhan Puja

Govardhana Puja, Go-Puja and Annakuta are all connected with the story of Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill to protect the inhabitants of Vrindavan.

The day after Diwali is referred to as Annakuta, or Govardhan Puja. On this day the inhabitants of Vrindavan (Lord Krishna’s abode on Earth) would hold a harvest festival in honour of King Indra, the demigod who provided the rains essential for the harvest.

One day, however, Lord Krishna wanted to teach Indra a lesson. He convinced the inhabitants of Vrindavan to honour Govardhan Hill instead, whose fertile soil provided the grass upon which the cows and bulls grazed, and to honour the cows and bulls who provided milk and ploughed the lands. Outraged, Indra retaliated with terrifying thunderstorms. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, calmly lifted Govardhan Hill with the little finger of his left hand. For seven days and seven nights the Lord held up Govardhan Hill, providing a giant umbrella to shelter the inhabitants of Vrindavan from the torrential rain. Realizing the futility of his actions, King Indra bowed down before the Lord with folded hands and offered prayers of supplication. In this way, Lord Krishna demonstrated that He is Deva Deva, the lord of the demigods, and that any purpose for which demigods might be worshipped could easily be served by worshipping Him, the cause of all causes.

We warmly welcome you and your family to ISKCON Scarborough tomorrow to take part in the Govardhana puja.

A fascinating Power point presentation titled “Puranic Time and the Archaeological Record” will be presented by prabhu on 12th Oct starting at 7 pm sharp.

A brief overview of the Puranic Time and the Archeological Record power point presentation

The time concept of modern archaeology and modern anthropology in general, resembles the general cosmological-historical time concept of Europe’s Judaeo-Christian culture. Differing from the cyclical cosmological-historical time concepts of the early Greeks in Europe, and the Indians and others in Asia, the Judaeo-Christian cosmological-historical time concept is linear and progressive. Modern archaeology also shares with Judaeo-Christian theology the idea that humans appear after the other major species. The Vaishnava perspective offers a radical critique of modern generalizations about human origins and antiquity. The Puranas and Ithihasas place human existence in the context of repeating time cycles called yugas and kalpas, lasting hundreds of millions of years. During this entire time, according to the Puranic accounts, humans coexisted with creatures in some ways resembling the earlier tool making hominids of modern evolutionary accounts. If one were to take the Puranic record as objectively true, and also take into account the generally admitted imperfection and complexity of the archaeological and anthropological record, one could make the following prediction. The strata of the earth, extending back hundreds of millions of years, should yield a bewildering mixture of hominid bones, some anatomically modern human and some not, as well as a similarly bewildering variety of artifacts, some displaying a high level of artistry and others not. Given the linear progressivist preconceptions of generations of archaeologists and anthropologists, one could also predict that this mixture of bones and artifacts would be edited to conform to their deeply rooted linear-progressive time concepts. A careful study of the archaeological record, and the history of archaeology itself, broadly confirms these two predictions. Linear-progressivist time concepts thus pose a substantial barrier to truly objective evaluation of the archaeological record and to rational theory- building in the area of human origins and antiquity.

Hare Krishna!

As in the past years, Krishna Devotees of ISKCON Toronto & Scarborough temples, participated in large numbers during the annual Āzhwārs Uthsavam at Richmond Hill Hindu Temple on September 22, 2013. They also prepared very delicious Prasad for all the devotees present in the temple. The special event during the Thirukkalyānam was the recitation of Keertans by children of ISKCON. In a short time of 15 minutes, they became the cynosure of all eyes and ears. The assembled devotees joined them in the Keertans and enjoyed calling out the divine names. May Lord Krishnā bless them with good health, wealth, pious attitude and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

We have put up a video of their performance at our Temple Website at www.TheHinduTemple.ca. Photo albums as well some more videos are being prepared and they will also appear in our Website before the end of the week.

If you wish to provide a direct link to the Keertans in your Blog, the link is:
