Sri Krsna Janmastami

The auspicious day of the appearance of Lord Krshna is celebrated all over the world as Sri Krshna Janmastami. It is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krshna Paksha (waning moon) of the month of Shravana. Krshna, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared in Mathura as son of Vasudeva and Devaki.

In Bhagavad Gita 4.8, Lord Krsna teaches the reason for his descend:

paritranaya sadhunam

vinasaya ca duskrtam

dharma-samsthapanarthaya

sambhavami yuge yuge

To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium.

In Bhagavad Gita 4.9, Lord Krsna teaches us how to get out of this wheel of misery

janma karma ca me divyam

evaà yo vetti tattvataù

tyaktvä dehaà punar janma

naiti mäm eti so ‘rjuna

One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.

The Appearance day of Srila Prabhupada
Vyasa-puja means “worship of Vyasa,” Vyasa being the compiler of the Vedic scriptures and thus the original spiritual master.

Devotees honour Srila Prabhupada – our Param Guru on the spiritual master’s appearance day (a respectful term for “birthday”) because he authentically transmits the teachings of Vyasa.
Although ISKCON has many spiritual masters, or acaryas, Srila Prabhupada, the founder-Acharya, holds a permanent position of special esteem. So just as when he was physically present, each year devotees gather on his appearance day to praise him and recall his glories.

We invite you, your family and your friends to join us for the grand celebrations coming Tuesday evening from 8 pm onwards at ISKCON Scarborough.

ISKCON Scarborough – Appearance day celebrations of Lord Balarama- coming Friday!
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!
Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating the Appearance day of Lord Balarama in a grand manner on Friday – August 11th, 2017 from 6.30 pm onwards.

The actual appearance day was on Monday- Aug 7th 2017. Devotees fasted until noon on Monday.

We welcome you, your family and friends to this auspicious event coming Friday at ISKCON Scarborough.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is the fountainhead of all incarnations.

Lord Balarama is his second body. They are both one and the same identity. They differ only in form. Balarama is the first bodily expansion of Krishna, and He assists in Lord Krishna’s transcendental pastimes. He is the source of the entire spiritual world and is the adi-guru, the original spiritual master.

Lord Balarama exemplifies the service attitude to Krishna. His only mission is to please Krishna by rendering service to Him, whether it is in the creation of the material worlds, maintaining the spiritual world or as His personal paraphernalia.

Lord Balarama is the eternal companion of Sri Krishna. He came as Lakshmana with Rama and later as Nityananda Prabhu with Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He is the original spiritual master, and any one desiring to make spiritual progress must first get the mercy of Lord Balarama. Directly we cant approach Krishna, only through Balaram we can approach Supreme Lord Krishna. Spiritual master represents the true representation of Balaram. Thus by following the instructions of the spiritual master and by pleasing him, we can get the grace of Krishna.

Whenever Krishna appears in the material world, He is accompanied by His associates and paraphernalia. Five thousand years ago when Krishna descended into the material world, He was first preceded by Baladeva. Only after Baladeva give His mercy did Krishna descend, such is the intimate relationship between Krishna and Baladeva.

The splendor of Lord Balarama’s form eclipses many millions of glistening rising moons, and the slightest scent of His boundless strength is sufficient to destroy many armies of demons. Although He knows the supernatural power of His younger brother, Krishna, still, out of love for Him, He never leaves Krishna alone in the forest even for a moment. Balarama is Sri Krishna’s dearest friend and is a great reservoir of many kinds of pastimes.

Some of the Pastimes of Lord Balarama

  •  Balarama slays demon Dhenukasura
  •  Balarama kills Pralambasura
  •  Balarama was always glorified by Krishna
  •  Yamuna devi was chastised when she did not give way for Balarama
  •  Kauravas chastised when they had captured Samba
  •  Balarama marries Revati
  •  Balarama became angry at Bhima for killing Duryodhana by trickery, but was appeased by Sri Krishna.
  • Killing of Romaharshana for not representing Vyasdev properly

ISKCON Scarborough – Very special kirtan night with Haribhakti Dey and Ajamil das – coming Friday- July 7th 2017
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!
Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

We warmly invite all the devotees with your family members to a very special night of kirtan at ISKCON Scarborough coming Friday.

HG Haribhakti dey, HG Ajamil das and the kirtan group will immerse us in the neatarian ocean of the Holy names.

The program starts at 6.45 pm on July 7th 2017.

Haribhakti Dey

“I was fortunate to be raised by musicians. Both, my father and mother are trained musicians and come from completely different musical and cultural backgrounds. My father was born in West Bengal, India, and was trained in the popular Bengali Folk style. My mother is from Colombia and grew up with Flamenco and South American music. From a very young age, music has been my passion”.

Born in 1982, inspired and taught by his father, Haribhakti developed a deep appreciation and love for devotional art and music. At the age of eight his father sent him to learn from Pt. Pradeep Gosh, a much respected and well known Music teacher in Kolkatta.

Later, Haribhakti Dey moved to Mumbai and continued his learning from Pt. Ajoy Pohankar, one of the most renowned Indian classical vocalists.

This Guru was a strict disciplinarian, and the long and arduous training made Haribhakti Dey a dedicated student and exponent of devotional Indian classical music.

The creative brilliance in Haribhakti Dey lies in his distinctive blend of styles. His pulsating rhythmic play and the cascades of his powerful, lightening-swift “Taans” are thrilling. His virtuosity, sensitivity, light singing, Alaap, slow and fast tempo, and total control of “Sur” and “Taal” have the captivating ability to touch the hearts and souls of his listeners.

Haribhakti Dey has performed numerous concerts throughout India both as a solo artist and in the company of other famous Indian musicians. He has taken Bhajan Sangeet to the world stage, performing sell-out concerts in Canada, USA, England, Australia, Dubai, Brazil, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

ISKCON Scarborough- 7th Annual 64 round chanting day on Saturday – July 1st 2017
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!
Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

We are pleased to announce that our 7th annual 64 round chanting day will take place on Saturday- 1st July 2017 from 10 am to 6 pm.

Scrumptious prasadam will be served throughout the day.

Every year over 50 devotees take part in chanting 64 rounds at ISKCON Scarborough that takes on CANADA DAY or the weekend of Canada day.

We invite you, your family and friends to ISKCON Scarborough on 1st July to take part in this auspicious event.

Further details about chanting the 64 rounds:

When we chant 64 rounds, we chant over 100,000 names of the Lord!

  • 1 Hare Krsna Maha Mantra(HKMM) = 16 names of the Lord – consisting of 3 transcendental words of Hare, Rama and Krsna (“Hare” is the internal energy of the Lord which is non-different from the Lord, “Krsna” means all attractive and “Rama” means reservoir of all pleasure).
  •  1 round in a japa mala =108 Hare Krsna Maha Mantra= 1728 names of the Lord (16 names of the Lord in 1 HKMM X 108 times in a japa mala)
  •  16 rounds = 27,648 names of the Lord (16 names of the Lord in 1 HKMM X 108 times in a japa mala X 16 rounds)
  •  64 rounds = 110,592 names of the Lord (16 names of the Lord in 1 HKMM X 108 times in a japa mala X 64 rounds)

Why chant 64 rounds of Hare Krsna Maha Mantra?

Caitanya Bhagavat (by Sri Vrindavan das Thakur)- Antya Khanda- chapter 9 verses 116 to 125:

“As the devotees invited the Lord (Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu) to take His meal in their houses, the Lord took the opportunity to teach them all this topic.

When invited to take a meal, the Lord smiled and said, “First you should become a laksesvara [The word laksesvara is a combination of laksha (“hundred thousand”) and isvara (“master”). In common usage, it would refer to someone who possessed a hundred thousand rupees.].

“I take meals only in the house of a laksesvara.” Hearing this, the brahmanas became worried.

The brahmanas offered prayers to the Lord, “O Gosaani, what to speak of a hundred thousand, none of us possess even a thousand.

“If You don’t accept meals from us, then let our entire household be burnt to ashes.”

The Lord replied, “Do you know who is a laksesvara? He is someone who daily chants a hundred thousand holy names.

“I call that a person a laksesvara. I take meals in only such a person’s house, not in the houses of others.”

Hearing this merciful statement of the Lord, the brahmanas gave up their anxiety and became joyful.

“O Lord, we will chant a hundred thousand names. Please therefore take Your meals in our houses. It is our good fortune that You are teaching us in this way.”

All the brahmanas then began to chant a hundred thousand names everyday so that they could offer food to Lord Caitanyacandra.

Importance of Chanting the Holy names of the Lord:

Srimad Bhagavatam: 6.3.31:

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: My dear King, the chanting of the holy name of the Lord is able to uproot even the reactions of the greatest sins. Therefore, the chanting of the saṅkīrtana movement is the most auspicious activity in the entire universe. Please try to understand this so that others will take it seriously.
Caitanya Bhagavat Adi Khanda 16.94 – Namacarya Srila Haridas Thakur

“Even if my body is cut into pieces and I give up my life, I will never give up chanting the Lord’s holy name.”

Srimad Bhagavatam 11.5.32/Caitanya Caritamrta Adi Lila 3.52/ Caitanya Caritamrta Madya Lila 6.103/ Caitanya Caritamrta Madya Lila 11.100/ Caitanya Caritamrta Madya Lila 20.342/ Caitanya Caritamrta Antya Lila 20.10

In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Krishna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krishna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.

Padyavali- Srila Rupa Goswami:

O Supreme Personality of Godhead, when someone desires to chant Your holy name, sins tremble in fear, the glory of material illusion faints unconscious, Yamaraja’s scribe Citragupta becomes happy and gazes at the chanter’s toenails with awe and reverence, and Lord Brahma prepares madhu-parka to worship him. O Lord, what more can we say than this?

Srimad Bhagavatam 12.3.51:

My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the Hare Krsna Hama-mantra, one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom

Padyavali- Srila Rupa Goswami:

May Krsna’s holy name, which is a reservoir of all transcendental happiness, the destruction of Kali-yuga’s sins, the most purifying of all purifying things, the saintly person’s food as he quickly traverses the path to the spiritual world, the pleasure-garden where the voices of the greatest saints, philosophers, and poets play, the life of the righteous, and the seed of the tree of religion, bring transcendental auspiciousness to you all.

ISKCON Scarborough – Grand Appearance day celebrations of Lord Narasimhadev – Sunday 7th May and Friday 12th May 2017
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krsna

Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

The actual appearance day of Lord Narasimhadev falls on Tuesday- 9th May 2017. Devotees fast until dusk on Tuesday.

We at ISKCON Scarborough will usher in the Narasimha Caturdasi 2 days before the actual appearance day by performing a grand Sudarsana Yagna from 11 am to 12 noon on Sunday- 7th May 2017.

We will then have a grand Narasimha Caturdasi celebrations on Friday 12th May 2017 from 7 pm to 8 pm.

Narasimha Caturdasi is the celebration of the appearance day of Lord Narasimhadev, a direct incarnation of the Lord in His half-man, half-lion form. Lord Narasimhadev appeared in order to protect his dear most devotee, Prahlada Maharaja, whose demonic father, Hiranyakasipu was a powerful atheist and enemy of the Lord.

Lord Narasimhadev is Krishna Himself, appearing especially in this form to reciprocate with our desire to remove all the obstacles in our devotional service.

“Although very ferocious, the lioness is very kind to her cubs. Similarly, although very ferocious to non-devotees like Hiranyakasipu, Lord Narasimhadev is very, very gentle and kind to His devotees like Prahlada Maharaja.”- HG Pankajanghri prabhu

Srimad Bhagavatam 5.18.8: The Prayers Offered to the Lord by the Residents of Jambudvipa

“I offer my respectful obeisances unto Lord Narasimha deva, the source of all power. O my Lord who possesses nails and teeth just like thunderbolts, kindly vanquish our demon like desires for fruitive activity in this material world. Please appear in our hearts and drive away our ignorance so that by Your mercy we may become fearless in the struggle for existence in this material world”.

Benedictions for hearing Lord Narasimhadev’s pastimes: Narada Muni to Maharaj Yudhisthir

Srimad Bhagavatam 7.10.46:

One who hears and chants this narration (Lord Narasimhadev’s pastimes) about the omnipotence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu, is certainly liberated from material bondage without fail.

Srimad Bhagavatam 7.10.47:

Anyone who with great attention hears this narration concerning the activities of Prahlada Maharaja, the killing of Hiranyakasipu, and the activities of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Narasimhadeva, surely reaches the spiritual world, where there is no anxiety.

We humbly welcome you, your family, friends, and relatives to ISKCON Scarborough to take part in the celebrations and partake the unlimited blessings of Lord Narasimhadev on Sunday 7th May as well on Friday 12th May 2017

ISKCON Scarborough – Rama Navami celebrations coming Friday
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!
Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

The appearance day of Lord Ramacandra (also known as Rama Navami) falls on Tuesday – 4th April 2017. Devotees of the Lord fast until sunset (7.48 PM) on this day.

We at ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating Rama Navami in a grand manner coming Friday. The program starts at 6.30 pm sharp with Tulasi arti followed by a grand Abhishek on the Lordship and a class on the Glories of Lord Ramacandra.

A free vegetarian feast will be served after our program.

Rama Navami

Rama Navami is the appearance day of Lord Rama. Navami means nine, Lord Rama appeared on the ninth day of the bright half of the month of Chaitra. His name was Ramacandra, Prince of Ayodhya.

Lord Ramacandra appeared in the Sun Dynasty, as the son of King Dasharatha, in the line of King Ikshvaku, the first ruler of Earth. Lord Rama was the darling of His father and mother, Queen Kaushalya, as well as the hero of all Ayodhya, the capital of what was then a single world kingdom.

Rama had all the admirable qualities of leadership, even from earliest youth. He possessed all physical strength, beauty, religious wisdom, fame for prowess with weapons, royal wealth, and complete renunciation.

Inseparable from Rama was Lakshmana, His younger brother. Together, the two brothers appeared on Earth to vanquish the almost invincible King Ravana and his host of Rakshasa warriors.

Here is a letter Srila Prabhupada wrote in 1968 describing how one should celebrate Ram Navami:

“So far the Advent Day of Lord Ramacandra, it should be celebrated as Lord Caitanya’s Birthday was done. Fasting up to evening, and then take prasadam, and chant Hare Krishna whole day, and be engaged in reading and chanting off and on, chant for some time, then read for some time, then again have Kirtana and so on, throughout the day. If you have not got a Ramayana, then you can read Bhagavad-gita or Srimad-Bhagavatam that is all right”.

Sri Nityananda Prabhu’s Appearance Day Celebrations – Friday- 10th Feb 2017‏
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!

Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

The appearance day of Sri Nithyananda Prabhu will be celebrated with pomp and gaiety at ISKCON Scarborough coming Friday – 10th February 2017.

The actual appearance day falls on Wednesday – 8th Feb 2017 where we fast until noon.

Sri Nityananda Prabhu, whose name literally means, “eternally blissful”, appeared around 1474 AD in the village of Ekachakra, near Mayapur, West Bengal.

He is the eternal companion of Lord Caitanya and both are worshiped together as are Krishna and Balaram. In the same way that Lord Balaram is considered the original spiritual master, so is Sri Nityananda.

Lord Caitanya is the most merciful incarnation of Lord Krishna, but Sri Nityananda, however, is even more merciful and compassionate than Lord Caitanya.

No service is too small to go unnoticed by Sri Nityananda, and no sinner too bad not to qualify for his benedictions. Sri Nityananda gives the mercy to understand and approach Lord Caitanya, who in turn gives the mercy to approach Srimati Radharani, who blesses us with love of Krishna. So the worship of Sri Nityananda is most important to Gaudiya Vaishnavas seeking the mercy of Radha-Krishna.

Please come to celebrate with us the Sri Nityananda Prabhu’s appearance day at ISKCON Scarborough coming Friday

Program on Feb 10th 2017 – Friday

6.30 pm to 6.45 pm – Tulasi puja

ISKCON Scarborough – Gita Jayanti celebrations coming Saturday
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!
Please accept our humble obeisances!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

We have two very auspicious events happening on the same day coming Saturday- December 10th 2016.

– Advent of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita(Gita Jayanti)
– Moksada Ekadasi

One of the Vrata(vow) undertaken during Ekadasi is to read the Holy scriptures.

What can be more glorious on this Moksada Ekadasi than reading Bhagavad Gita on the very day that marks the 5153rd appearance day anniversary.

We at ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating Gita Jayanti in a grand manner coming Saturday – December 10th 2016 by reading all the 700 English verses starting at 6.00 PM sharp!

Advent of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita(Gita Jayanti)

It was on this day 5153 years ago, that Sanjaya narrated to King Dhritarashtra the dialogue between Sri Krshna and Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra at the place now known as Jyotisha tirtha, and thus made the glorious teachings of the Lord available to the people of the world, for all time.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita shows a way to rise above the world of duality and the pairs of opposites, and to acquire eternal bliss and immortality. It is a gospel of action. It teaches the rigid performance of one’s duty in society, and a life of active struggle, keeping the inner being untouched by outer surroundings, and renouncing the fruits of actions as offerings unto the Lord.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita is a source of power and wisdom. It strengthens us when you are weak, and inspires us when you feel dejected and feeble. It teaches us how to resist unrighteousness and follow the path of virtue and righteousness.

The teachings of the Gita are broad, sublime and universal. They do not belong to any particular cult, sect, creed, age, place or country. They are meant for all. They are within the reach of all. The Gita has a message for the solace, peace, freedom, salvation and perfection of all human beings.

Anyone who gifts a Bhagavad-Gita to a deserving person on this day is bestowed profuse blessings by Lord Krsna

There will be a grand Ekadasi feast served after the whole recitation.

On the auspicious occasion, we welcome you, your family and friends to join us at ISKCON Scarborough to recite the entire Gita verses and to partake the unlimited blessing of Sri Sri Radha Gopi Vallabha.

ISKCON Scarborough – Three special events will be celebrated coming Sunday!
→ ISKCON Scarborough

The program starts at 10.15 am coming Sunday (30th Oct 2016) as we will be celebrating three wonderful events – Diwali, Swathi Nakshatra and Govardhan Lila.

Diwali(Dipavali):

Damodar Lila:

Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, quoting from the Vaisnava-tosani of Srila Sanatana Gosvami, says that the incident of Krsna’s breaking the pot of yogurt and being bound by mother Yasoda took place on the Diwali day.

Lord Ram returns to Ayodhya:
King Dashrath ruled the rich and prosperous city of Ayodhya. He had three wives and Kaikayi was his favorite. She saved his life in a war at a very crucial time. Dashrath granted her two favors for saving his life.

Dashrath had four sons. Rama, the oldest, was everybody’s favorite. He was married to the beautiful and devoted Sita. Just before Ram’s coronation, Kaikayi reminded Dashrath of her two favors. She told him to crown Bharat as king and to banish Ram to the jungle for fourteen years. Her wishes were granted.

The old king Dashrath later died of a broken heart. After a few years in the forest, Sita was lured by the demon king Ravana. Rama, with the help of a monkey general, Hanuman, rescued Sita and defeated Ravana. After fourteen years in exile, Ram and Sita returned to Ayodhya on the day of Diwali.

Swathi Nakshatra celebration:
Swathi Nakshatra, is the birth star of Lord Narasimhadev, and to mark the occasion a grand Abhishek will be performed on Lord Narasimhadev.

Govardhana lila:
The actual anniversary of Govardhana Lila in on Monday- 31st Oct 2016, but we at ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating this glorious event on Sunday 30th Oct 2016
The day after Diwali is referred to as Annakuta, or Govardhana Puja. On this day, the inhabitants of Vrindavan would hold a harvest festival in honor of King Indra, the demigod who provided the rains essential for the harvest.

One day, however, Lord Krsna wanted to teach Indra a lesson. He convinced the inhabitants of Vrindavan to honor Govardhana Hill instead, whose fertile soil provided the grass upon which the cows and bulls grazed, and to honor the cows and bulls who provided milk and plowed the lands. Outraged, Indra retaliated with terrifying thunderstorms. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, calmly lifted Govardhana Hill with the little finger of his left hand. For seven days and seven nights the Lord held up Govardhana Hill, providing a giant umbrella to shelter the inhabitants of Vrindavan from the torrential rain. Realizing the futility of his actions, King Indra bowed down before the Lord with folded hands and offered prayers of supplication. In this way, Lord Krsna demonstrated that He is Deva Deva, the lord of the demigods, and that any purpose for which demigods might be worshiped could easily be served by worshiping Him, the cause of all causes.

We warmly welcome you, your family, relatives and friends to take part in these wonderful programs coming Sunday.

paritranaya sadhunam

vinasaya ca duskrtam

dharma-samsthapanarthaya

sambhavami yuge yuge

So just as when he was physically present (1965 through 1977), each year devotees gather on his appearance day to praise him and recall his glories.

We invite you, your family and your friends to join us for the grand celebrations coming Friday at 6.45 pm at ISKCON Scarborough.

Value of association with pure devotees:

CC Madhya 22.54
The verdict of all revealed scriptures is that by even a moment’s association with a pure devotee, one can attain all success.

Srimad Bhagavatam 4.30.34
Even a moment’s association with a pure devotee cannot be compared to being transferred to heavenly planets or even merging into the Brahman effulgence in complete liberation. For living entities who are destined to give up the body and die, association with pure devotees is the highest benediction.

More about HH Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj

After visiting the ISKCON temple in Montreal, Canada in September of 1967, Gopal Krishna Goswami yearned to meet a Vaishnava guru and got the opportunity to meet Srila Prabhupada there in 1968. Gopal Krishna Goswami, originally from Delhi, India had a religious background and had great respect for sadhus or saints. The combination of his family background and his search for spiritual life led him to Srila Prabhupada and he accepted initiation from him in early 1969. Gopal Krishna Goswami has served as personal secretary to Srila Prabhupada at various times.
After graduating from Delhi University in 1964, Gopal Krishna Goswami studied business management in France under a French government scholarship. He also studied for some time at Sorbonne University in Paris. While pursuing business management at McGill University in Montreal, Gopal Krishna Goswami began contributing to ISKCON by financially assisting the Montreal temple. In December of 1974 he was made a GBC member by Srila Prabhupada and then transferred to India where he initially headed projects in Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Madras, Mayapur and Kanpur. His GBC responsibilities extended to other parts of Southeast Asia as well. Entrusted by Srila Prabhupada to visit the former Soviet Union in 1976 and 1977, Gopal Krishna Goswami acted as the representative of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust to promote the placement of Srila Prabhupada’s books at fairs and in libraries. He was very well received, as were the books he was presenting. Gopal Krishna Goswami has served extensively in BBT (as chairman and trustee) in India, arranging for translation of Srila Prabhupada’s books into various regional languages and their distribution far and wide. He continues to encourage BBT book distribution in his zones, especially in India.
In 1981 Gopal Krishna Goswami took sannyasa initiation and began to extend his travels to spread Krishna consciousness more widely in parts of the USA, Canada and eventually in parts of Africa. Currently, he is GBC of over thirty temples around the world and serves as an initiating spiritual master, with disciples in Russia, America, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Gopal Krishna Goswami played a leading role in inspiring and completing several large ISKCON temples, such as the Glory of India temple in New Delhi in 1998 (inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee) and the Radha Bankebihari temple in Nairobi.

More about HH Candramauli Maharaj

Born in New Jersey, USA, in 1947, HH Candramauli Swami came in contact with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 24. In 1973 he began practicing Krishna Consciousness in New York City and shortly thereafter began serving at the New Vrindavan farm comunity in West Virginia. That same year he received initiation from His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

In 1986 HH Candramauli Swami accepted the sannyasa order and began preaching in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. In the early 1980’s he became involved with the ISKCON Prison Ministry in the USA and began visiting prisoners and holding programs in jails, along with regularly writing letters to inmates and sending them Srila Prabhupada’s books.

HH Candramauli Swami is now the leader of the ISKCON Prison Ministry and has worked tirelessly to document the spiritual progression of the world-wide inmate community. His dedication to the welfare, growth and sustainable rehabilitation of these prisoners has culminated in the book “Holy Jail”, a touching compilation of the activities of the ISKCON Prison Ministry (IPM). In over thirty years of operation, the lives of hundreds of inmates have changed due to the practice of Krishna consciousness and the support received by devotees.

In 1995 he began serving as the resident sannyasi in Chicago where he was based until 2013 when he relocated to Karlovac, Croatia. At present HH Candramauli Swami offers spiritual guidance around Europe, USA and India.

More about H.G.Dravida das

H.G.Dravida prabhu is a disciple of His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.

Dravida Prabhu joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness at the age of 25 in early 1973 at the temple in Brooklyn, New York. A child of the Sixties, he’d already been exploring yoga, Vedanta, meditation, and alternative lifestyles for some time. But once he read Srila Prabhupada’s “Teachings of Lord Caitanya,” he knew that bhakti-yoga was the path for him. The Brooklyn temple happened to be the location of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, the publishing arm of ISKCON.
He has edited Back to Godhead magazine and other books published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust for over 25 years. From 1983 to 1989 he was part of the team that produced the last six 1,000-page volumes of the magnum opus of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada: a commentated English translation of India’s jewel of Vedic wisdom, the 18,000-verse Srimad-Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana). He also helped produce the revised version of Srila Prabhupada’s nine-volume Caitanya-Caritamrita during 1995-96 and his Krishna book from 1994-95. In addition to his editing work, he teaches Bhakti Yoga classes at the San Diego ISKCON center. Throughout all this immersion in transcendental literature, Dravida dasa developed a love of the Sanskrit language, and especially the elaborate Sanskrit prosody of the Bhagavatam, portions of the Caitanya-caritamrita, and other bhakti literature. His devotion and expertise in chanting form a marvelous combination.
He currently resides at the New Govardhan temple in San Diego, offering regular Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam classes as well as leadership for the bhakta program there. His engaging multimedia presentations at Japa retreats and elsewhere are highlights of devotional gatherings.
