Attentive Chanting Is Very Important
→ Japa Group

“I do appreciate that I persist patiently and that I’m able to control my mind even when there is no nectarean taste in chanting. I’m just suggesting that if I could be alert and bring the mind back to hearing, then why not try to go further. All the authorities say that attentive chanting is very important and leads to thinking about Krishna’s form, activities, qualities and pastimes. They must be right.”

Developed A Real Taste For Chanting
→ Japa Group

When one has developed a real taste for chanting, then a single utterance of the holy name can eradicate all previous sins. Some vestiges of sinful reaction may still remain in a particular individual, but these also are gradually removed by the process of chanting.

Prayer For Chanting Better Japa
→ Japa Group

So everyday I make a prayer for chanting better japa. I make this as my daily practice. Thus I have incorporated into my day the simple prayer, here is the prayer.

“Oh my dear Lord Krsna, I will always chant my rounds in a mood of surrender. Krsna please help me to chant this way in a mood of complete dependence and surrender to the holy name.”

You Must Reform
→ Japa Group

“Japa is an important part of devotional life. If your japa is not up to standard, this is serious. You must reform. That is, out of your regret may come success. Prabhupada used to say, ‘Failure is the pillar of success.’ Assess yourself, and try to improve your chanting of Hare Krishna.”

Japa Is Your Main Sadhana
→ Japa Group

Japa is your main
sadhana, and you do
it early in the morning.
Sometimes you are tired,
and you don’t chant so well.
But you keep on trying and
don’t fail to do your quota.
The same for writing.
I make a daily report
on how I’m chanting
my rounds. Tell the
truth and don’t tell
it worse than it is.
All the mantras are
completed quickly in
your mind, and you
strive to pay attention.
I trust in the importance
and potency of harinama
and treat myself for
first aid when it
hurts itself in
poor performance. I am
not on the disabled
list.

The Process Of Improving Habits PT.1
→ Japa Group

“First we should spend one week observing our japa. Because the idea of reform, it is called ‘Japa Reform’, reform means to improve. So you can’t improve something unless you recognize the need for improvement right? If you think everything is fine, then you won’t try to reform or improve. So for the first week… because we want to change our habits, our chanting maybe isn’t very good. We want to improve the quality of our chanting, the quantity and the quality.”

I Stick To The Simple Method
→ Japa Group

“I stick to the simple method taught by Lord Caitanya and passed on by Srila Prabhupada. The name of Krishna is not different than Krishna Himself. Sometimes the Lord deliberately taught false philosophies, but in any case they are not to be followed perpetually. Only devotional service is the means by which to chant the holy name and benefit from its eternal proposition.”
