Returning to the spiritual world Kadamba Kanana Swami: Sarupa…

Returning to the spiritual world
Kadamba Kanana Swami: Sarupa chants into Krsna’s ear and Krsna comes back to his senses, he embraces Sarup says, “Come! You take prasadam with me!” And they go to take prasadam in the house of Nanda Maharaj who is already waiting. Radharani has cooked all these delicious sweets and actually, it turns out that Sarupa is a family member. He is related to Srimati Radharani, in the family of Sridham. Sarupa is sitting next to Krsna, then some sweets are placed on Krsna’s plate and Krsna tastes them and makes a face; horrible! Everyone is shocked, what is this? Yasoda is looking at Radharani, “What did you do? What did you make here? Are you poisoning my child?” Krsna says, “These are inedible!” He takes the sweets and throws them on Sarupa’s plate and says, “Here, you taste them since it is your family that has produced them.” And Sarupa tastes the greatest nectar, he has not tasted such nectar ever, amazing! So in this way he returns back to Godhead; he is not just suddenly back. No, Krsna welcomes him back personally. It is a very personal thing, going back to Godhead. It is also very personal thing when we leave; it hurts Krsna very much. So like this, yes indeed, the relationship is very personal.

Hare Krishna! The History Of Our Vaishnava Heritage
Bhakti Caru Swami: What Chaitanya Mahaprabhu gave is the highest. It is not a sentimental claim, but the verdict of the scriptures. Also, when we want to analyze it and verify it, then we get to see that this is the highest spiritual achievement. A part of it we discussed yesterday, that who is the greatest devotee, what is the highest form of devotion? Narada Muni is very systematically experiencing that. Sanatana Goswami is describing Narada Muni’s search for the greatest devotee. We are seeing the gradual elevation of one’s devotional profoundity. Today we will be discussing the second part of Brhad Bhagavatamrta. The second part of Brhad Bhagavatmrita is actually describing a devotee’s journey back to Godhead. The story begins with a cowherd boy named Gopakumara. Gopakumar is born in Govardhana in a family of Vaishyas, a cowherd family.

Srila Prabhupada’s compassion. Feelings of pity and sorrow…
→ Dandavats.com

Srila Prabhupada’s compassion.
Feelings of pity and sorrow are evoked when we see the sufferings of our fellow man. Our attempts to alleviate that distress by acts of charity are certainly regarded as noble acts of benevolence, and there have been many people who have made selfless sacrifices for the poor, infirm and marginalised. The world would definitely be a better place if more people were benevolent, concerned, kind, and empathetic – qualities collectively appreciated as compassion. Depending on one’s premise however, compassion can be understood in different ways. Srila Prabhupada enlightened us about our real identity – that “I am not this body, but a spirit soul”. On this level of insight, compassion has a much deeper significance. Srila Prabhupada taught and lived by this premise. He stated: Material compassion, lamentation and tears are all signs of ignorance of the real self. Compassion for the eternal soul is self-realisation… No one knows where compassion should be applied. Compassion for the dress of a drowning man is senseless. A man fallen in the ocean of nescience cannot be saved simply by rescuing his outward dress – the gross material body. As an enlightened soul, Srila Prabhupada felt pain at the distress of others and wanted to relieve their suffering. He explained that compassion for the material body alone does not provide a lasting solution. He saw the suffering of the living entity as a symptom of a deeper problem - the misidentification of the real person (the soul) with the temporary material body. As long as the spirit soul identified with this body, it would have to repeatedly endure birth after birth and the concomitant suffering typical of material existence.

Proofreader for Lal Publications
→ SivaramaSwami.com

Several books are coming up for production in Lal Productions by its in-house author, Sivarama Swami, and one thing we realise we don’t have, and never have had, actually, is a proofreader.

We’re not sure why we don’t have one, because let’s face it, anyone can proofread. Right? Right. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you: “It’s easy, a piece of cake, a walk in the park.” It’s so easy, in fact, we’re wondering why there are typos and mistakes in the books, despite how many times each member of Lal has read through the book in the course of their service:

Firstly, there’s Sivarama Swami himself, the writer. I mean, how hard is it—can he just do a spellcheck? Problem solved. No need for more staff if only he edited, proofed, and diacriticised his own work. Riiight….

Then there’s Braja Sevaki: she’s editing, so why can’t she proof at the same time? How many sets of eyes do you need, it’s all the same manuscript, right? And she’s a writer. How hard can it be? Sheesh. Then again, she’s Australian—do they speak English?

Nalini Kanta is the production manager usually, and the translator: what, she can’t notice all those errors while she’s doing all that work? I thought it would be programmed into her mind what looks right and wrong? Surely there’s a computer chip we can instal in her. It must be the language barrier…

But then there’s Manjari: she speaks fluent English, what’s her excuse for letting all these typos and errors slip through? She has so much free time, always playing at the house out the back of the temple, doing yoga, little things like that. Maybe there’s something in the Hun water…

As for Manorama, no one really know what he actually does, so we’re not touching that one (though he does seem to have the best office in Hungary…just sayin’….)

Perhaps we should ask Sundara-rüpa—he’s Mr. Computers after all, can’t he just make a program to fix the errors? Surely “layout” is straightforward, easy, and hey, he has so much spare time…

Gabhira, too—what’s with this “I’m the Sanskrit editor” thing? C’mon, a tiny little coloured highlight where you see a mistake, how hard is that? Perhaps the fact that all the conversations he has are in Sanskrit…

Then there’s the artists. These guys should really earn their keep and do a little real work instead of just drawing and colouring in. Cos that’s all it is, right? Maybe their English isn’t strong enough. It can’t be anything else…

Anyway—the thing is we need a proofreader. Apparently. Or at least someone to forward all the complaints to. It’s going to be hard to choose someone, as we’ll be inundated with offers. Why? Here’s the package deal:

1. You work under Braja Sevaki.
2. You don’t get paid.
3. No free books. Nada.
4. You work under Braja Sevaki.
5. The deadlines will kill you.
6. You work under Braja Sevaki.
7. You work under Braj…Ed: ok ok, I get it, back off…

Seriously though, if you are a proofreader, and only a proofreader, please write to braja.sorensen@gmail.com and explain to her why there are a thousand reasons you will never take on this role. Then run.

Putin says he’d prefer start yoga with spiritual practices.
At a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, the Russian president promised to try to practice yoga to the best of his abilities. “Yoga is something I’ve never done so far but it can’t help being attractive. I’ll see what my condition permits me to do proceeding from the level of my physical fitness,” Putin said. “When you look at real yogis, it seems no one can attain this kind of perfection and the thought stops you.”.

Hare Krishna! Gudur Rathayatra 2015
Gudur is a town in the Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh, located around 140 kilometers North of one of India’s largest cities, Chennai, on National Highway 5. It is well known for large natural deposits of the mineral “mica” in and around the town. The town is also important due to the Railway station, a very large junction station connecting Chennai to Vijayawada, and from there to North, West, and Eastern India. Nellore district is also famous for the local varieties of rice that have been grown there for millenia. Gudur is just 40 kilometers South of Nellore, the district headquarters, where ISKCON sannyasi Sukhadev Swami has established a temple of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladev and Subhadradevi, as well as a large ashram. Sukhadev Swami, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was a practicing medical doctor in the United States. He became frustrated with his material circumstances, returned to India and joined ISKCON at Bombay back during 1983-84.

Hare Krishna! The history of the Balaram Mrdangas – Part II
Manu priya continued to produce the Balaram mrdanga’s until March 1, 1992. On that day he finished making eight large and four small mrdangas. I was cooking the Sunday feast for the LA temple that day, I still do. After cooking I would usually bring some prasadam over to Manu’s apartment and take with a couple devotee friends and my wife Isanah dd. This time Manu was not there, I asked our friend and neighbor Jiva Carana dasa if he knew where Manu was, he said that Manu asked him to go to the store with him but Jiva was busy so he didn’t go. I came back an hour later and Manu was still not there. I went to look for him in case his car broke down or something. I went to the closest grocery store and saw his car parked by the door. As I was walking to the door of the store I saw his crutches in the passenger seat. I went over to the car and Manu priya was slumped over and his body cold, He was gone. He had made drums for the world wide devotee community until his last breath.

My First Night in a Hare Krishna Temple
→ The Enquirer

The San Diego Krishna temple was even cooler than the one in Los Angeles. The inside was decorated and decked out, completely over-the-top – but the thing I really liked were the people. It was the headquarters for the Hare Krishna magazine, Back to Godhead. I loved chief editor – Jayādvaita Swāmī. We got along great. He was logical as folded laundry; so dry, like he just didn’t give a rat’s ass for popularity or any bullshit like that. Like a tortilla chip with no salsa, he was just exactly whatever he was – and I liked it. I would go to the Magazine’s office now and then to vacuum or whatever.

Dravida dās would sometimes hang out with me, recite Sanskrit, and answer my questions. Once he took me with him on a walk to Trader Joe’s to buy some special kind of yogurt or something else I had never heard of before. He was another one like Jayādvaita Swāmī: more punk than punk. So absorbed in whatever it was he was absorbed in that he just didn’t have time or energy to care about superficial things.

Bhaktivedānta Institute also made their headquarters in San Diego. They were a group of three scientists who had become Krishna devotees, and had written that Origins magazine I had read a few months ago, and a dauntingly titled book, Mechanistic and Non-Mechanistic Science. Mādhavendra Pūri was the one among them who paid most attention to me, by far. I’d sit with him and  ask  all sorts of detailed scientific questions. He’d give his fascinating answers the same way a cat walks – so lightly, so patiently – and frequently breaking into a mad-scientist’s grin during the pauses between sentences.

Umāpati Swāmī was also a San Diego Hare Krishna. One Sunday he gave the entire lecture while looking directly to me, almost never even glancing at anyone else in the temple. He was talking about a few verses early in Gītā’s second chapter, and he was really trying to get the idea into my head that “You are not that body.” I felt like someone special.

Vaikuṇṭha dās, one of the gentlest, nicest men I’ve ever met, was a long-time resident here at the Krishna’s San Diego spot. He lived in a small apartment a few yards down the street, with his wife. Once, my car’s tire went flat and, for whatever typical teenage-punk reason, I had no spare. He took me into his apartment and called whoever he needed to call, triple-A or something like that, and somehow, someone soon showed up and fixed the flat. While we waited he explained that Paramātmā (“God,” in a sense) is like the sun and all living beings were like water in pots. Just as the same sun reflects into so many different pots, Paramātmā “reflects” into and exists within everyone.

A month or two earlier, I had spent my first overnighter at the San Diego temple. It was “nṛsiṁha-caturdaśi” a holiday for Narasiṁha, Krishna’s man-lion incarnation – the same man-lion one on the Cro-Mags newly released album cover. My parents were on a vacation somewhere – maybe Vegas – so I spent a three-day weekend on a slumber party with Krishna. I slept upstairs with the “brahmacārīs” (the unmarried men), and was completely jazzed to come down well before sunrise for the four or five hours of daily kīrtan, class, and prasādam. I had bought a disposable Kodak camera, and snapped a roll of Rādhā Giridhari on the altar that Saturday Morning, May 20th of 1989. They all came out ridiculously blurry, the temple was very dark and the camera very cheap, but one of them came out great, and I still keep the photo till this day.

The Padukas and Sitari’s Farewell Celebration
- TOVP.org

On Wednesday, July 8th, in Alachua, Florida, New Raman Reti Dhama, the same temple from where the North American TOVP Tour started, a celebration was held to welcome back the Padukas and Sitari, as well as Jananivas prabhu and the TOVP Team, and to also bid them a farewell back to Sri Mayapur Dhama. Amidst joyous kirtan in a packed temple room, an abhisheka was held. Then Radha Jivana and Jananivas prabhus spoke about the tour and their experiences, and, finally, prasadam was served to all the Vaishnavas.

Below is the link to the audio of Radha Jivana and Jananivas prabhus’ farewell speech, and a transcription of Jananivas prabhu’s words of appreciation:

Jananivasa Das: So thank you again for the second reception, sending us off on our tour with a lot of enthusiasm and receiving us again with a lot of enthusiasm.

So it has been a very, very successful tour, the point was to raise funds, the project in Sridham Mayapur is costing us half a million dollars a month to keep the work going. So almost for three years, that is 32 months we have the funds to keep the project going. Because if it stops, the workmen go away, the prices of everything goes up, they take away all the machinery when you are wating, like we had for Srila Prabhupada’s samadhi, the work stopped for 6-7 years. Nothing was happening until again Ambarisa Prabhu came to save the day.

We don’t want that to happen. By the indications, the prophecies of Nityananda Prabhu which he gave to Jiva Goswami in the Navadvipa Dham Mahatmya, Bhaktivinoda Thakur had the vision of the temple, so all these predictions are coming true right now. That the bathing ghats on the Ganga would be built again, many houses would be built in Mayapur. We see now we have villages there, Gaurangar, Abhaynagar, Sarasvati Nagar, Goshallapara, Grihasthapara these villages are all popping up. This is all the prediction of Caitanya Mahaprabhu revealed by Nityananda Prabhu.

This is also one of the main things that inspired me to come that the more we can collect the quicker we can build this temple. When everything is there, then the ultimate prediction of Mahaprabhu,

Gaurangera nitya-seva hoibe vikasa

That from this temple service to Lord Gauranga will spread all over the world. That is mainly the nama-seva, he has come to give nama-seva, but all those different types of service we can give which Srila Prabhupada described as the flood of love of Godhead which will begin in Mayapur. So it is coming like a flood of love of Godhead and we would like to think that when we were taking Lord Nityananda’s padukas-or they were taking us-like those water diviners, a V-shaped stick that moves where there is water. So it was like we were holding onto the shoes and they were kind of taking us around, looking not for water but for nectar.

We likened it to how Kapila Muni, after he instructed Devahuti, he left for the Himalayas and from there he traced the path of the Ganga down to the bay of West Bengal. This was just before the advent of Gangadevi in this material world. Kapila Muni traced the path where she would come, so we likened this to Nityananda’s shoes, they were leading us around, they were tracing the path from where the flood of love of Godhead would come. And here was the first place they came to and the last place so you can expect a double flood will come!

It has been very inspirational. I wasn’t very enthusiastic to come for some reason, because I heard that all the temples are empty in America, no-one is there, nothing is going on. And I thought it would actually be like that.

But it wasn’t. Everywhere we went was full of devotees. Of course we attended a lot of festivals also, but there was always service going on. Especially the community devotees were really enthusiastic and all the devotees were… I thought it was great. It dispelled my illusion; maybe in the past some time it was like that. But what I saw was great.

Srila Prabhupada wrote one letter to one Indian gentleman and he was telling about the project in Mayapur, we are building a 350 feet high temple and we are spending so much money and he was given all these statistics which were kind of over-rated, over-exaggerated. But now it is less even, what Prabhupada said. And he explained to this gentleman that after we got
everything, all the land, money, permissions and things like that, then he said now, when Lord Caitanya’s desire is there, it will be taken up.

Ultimately it is up to the Lord’s desire; not a blade of grass can move without his desire. Even we build the temple, still it is up to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s desire when it actually sweeps all over the world. Anyway, that is practical. We may not be able to give love of God all over the world, but we can build the temple. That’s something practical. And when it is there, that ultimate prediction can happen at any time.

That is why it is so important and that was one of the inspirations for me to come, to get this temple built quickly so that at any time the Lord can just give his sanction. This is the Vaisnavas’ dream, that the whole world is chanting Hare Krishna. We have no other ambition. As Bhaktivinoda Thakur says in the song “Narada Muni Bajay Bina”, that he is going through the universes chanting “Radhika Ramana, Radhika Ramana”. And Bhaktivinoda Thakur says when the whole universe is chanting Hare Krishna then the Vaisnava is satisfied.

So we will be satisfied to… first we will be satisfied to deliver the world with it, the causeless mercy of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, causing everyone to be able go back to Godhead. And then after that we will have the universal temple, we will try for the universe then. Let the whole universe chant Hare Krishna, we can give them that facility. We will conquer the world with the holy name, now we’ll try for the whole universe.

It has been so nice travelling with all the devotees, meeting new devotees, everyone we’ve seen have a really nice service attitude, we are full up from eating so much prasadam every day, every place we go. It is a wonderful experience and again I thank you for hosting us on our return and I hope that you will be there, if not next year, then at least in 2022 for the grand opening. See you all in Mayapur! Hare Krishna. Srila Prabhupada ki jai!

Śrī Jīva Goswāmī’s opinion about Context-Relevance and Ācārya-Absolute-Infalibility
→ The Enquirer

I am translating from Śrī Tattva Sandarbha 27:

In these Six Essays (Ṣaḍ-Sandarbha) we will ascertain the supreme objective of life primarily by scrutinizing the statements of Śrī Bhāgavatam in due consideration of the context in which those statements are made.

Statements must be understood in context, not as isolated quotes one found on the internet or in a vedabase as the result of searching for a particular idea one likes.

We will divide our analysis into thematic sections. A few brief words will introduce the topic of each section, followed by a relevant passage from Śrī Bhāgavata, followed by our explanation of the passage.

To validate our explanation of Bhāgavatam, sometime we will refer to the Veda, Upaniṣads, Purāṇas and so on, in exactly the form we have seen them. We will also refer to Śrīdhara Swāmī, Rāmānujācārya, and Madhvācārya.

Śrīdhara Swāmī occasionally included monistic concepts in his explanation of Bhāgavatam, to attract readership from the monists who flourished in Central India and elsewhere. We will not give much attention to these, or any other, monistic explanations of Bhāgavatam, for these are already too well known. We will refer to the Swāmī’s explanations when they are harmonious with the conclusions of pure Vaiṣṇava philosophy.

Śrīdhāra Swāmī was an ācārya held in the utmost esteem by Śrī Caitanya and all his followers, as well as so many others. Here Śrī Jīva makes the plain, direct statement that Śrīdhāra Swāmī sometimes spoke things that are not absolutely true, but are relative to his particular time, place and circumstance. Therefore I reject the claim that it makes me a traitor or a betrayer to suggest that somethings Śrīla Prabhupāda said have to be comprehended in the context of his particular time, place and circumstance.

A Bit of a Scene

The weather report is that the globe is facing an incredible heat wave, all except for parts of central Canada so it seems.  Hard to believe that the predicted high for today in southern Ontario would only reach 15 degrees Celsius and a northern place like Yellowknife would summit at 25 degrees Celsius.  Climatic changes are abound and right.  At the Toronto Airport, where Brhat and I were standing after de planing, we were experiencing an unseasonable wet and coolness.

While waiting for our ride at the pick-up lane I witnessed something that chilled me further.  An older man exited the building at Terminal 3 very near to us but slipped, banged his head against a hand rail cutting open his left forehead and with blood gushed forth.  He fell on his back and couldn't get himself up.  People came running.  I was one of them.  It was a scene.

Some airport service-women also appeared.  We tried to console him.  We were somewhat reluctant to lift him up.  We had all decided that he should get up and so he grabbed my hand and I lifted him but only once a wheel-chair arrived by airport security.  The ambulance was on its way.  The cut on his forehead was quite ugly.  It looked as though he would be tended to.  My ride arrived.  I was glad to be of service to the older man who apparently was on the same flight from Halifax.

At the Brampton ISKCON Centre I relayed the details of this incident to the community from the vyasasan chair, the seat of the speaker.  I cannot at this point recall why I brought up the incident, in other words, in which context.  But if I could express my after-thought:  "Life is so fragile.  Anything can happen at any moment.  Are we prepared when something happens to us to be in a divine state of mind?

On the Waterfront

Mukunda and I took to the Beachville Lakeside Trail.  For me - a new discovery.  We trekked only 5 kilometres but I loved it.  Apparently the trail swings north to Yarmouth, a mere 300 kilometres.  This is tempting for the future.

Then my most important part of the day fell in the evening at Halifax's charming waterfront.  Tons of people were there for the Rib Fest.  Can you imagine what a bunch of Hare Krishnas would be doing there?  Yes, unmistakably they would be chanting.  That's just what we did.  Let's say we helped ourselves to a spot on the wooden dock, took the lotus position and chanted away.  We were armed with mrdanga drum and cymbals.  It wasn't long before Amber, a busker, had shown up with her guitar and her friend, a street entertainer, with djembe.  Our entire ensemble was welcomed by the public.  The sound was one of enchantment.  Joseph took the lead and strummed on Amber's guitar.  Brhat stuck to his drum and Amber went to her impromptu voice tones offering a moody background to the chant.  Ashley was also there with her and Joseph's several month old baby.  Their presence added to the sweetness of the event altogether.
The implications of a Rib Fest is a bit hard to imagine for a group of Krishna people.  What would be the karmic implications for eating 'til it would stick to your ribs?'  Or are we looking at a certain kind of hell that steak-eaters venture to being involved in - by taking the life of a cow or bull, held sacred as a mother and father from a Vedic perspective?
In one sense, we the chanters feel that when the sacred sound is heard it can karmically turn everything around to the positive.

Phase to Phase

Sundari’s mom passed away a month ago and so she invited a small group of family and friends for a small memorial service.  She and her dad, with origins from Trinidad, and the Hindu family had a clear idea what they wanted from Brhat and I, “Speaking about the soul’s journey and please do some kirtan”.

The circle of family and friends, we discovered, are from everywhere – the U.S., Bosnia, India, a few more places and even Halifax.  Quoting from the Gita, I had selected a verse from Chapter 2 beginning with dehino ‘smin yatha dehe.  “We are embodied first as a baby, then child, then youth, adult, elderly and finally a new form shapes as a baby again.  “The lesson being that the soul perpetuates despite bodily change and therefore emotions need not be extreme.”

It is apparent that a grieving time is necessary.  I could see that Sundari was happy at this state to have perhaps a closure to the event in the form of a message and a kirtan.

Kirtan also threw a group into a joyous state when after a four-hours-plus drive to Fredericton, Wade, Brhat and I made it to Mazerolle’s Gallery for a “Tales from Trails” happening.  Kirtan is new, if not fresh, for these attendees.  It’s not every day that you get to sing ancient mantras and physically move to the pulsating beat of a drum.

Just across the street at city hall locals were clad in lime-coloured T-shirts in anticipation for raising awareness on the dreaded Lyme disease which is prevalent enough in North America. Good for them! I like to think that kirtan raises awareness towards the disease of me-consciousness and how we must get beyond bodily identification.  I am spirit that moves from one phase to the next hoping to one day get set free based on clean consciousness.

Hare Krishna! Lord Nityananda’s Padukas Return Home
After four months of fund raising for TOVP in America, HG Jananivasa prabhu returned home to Mayapur with the padukas of Lord Nityananda on 12th July. Hundreds of jubilant devotees flocked at Temple’s main gate for receiving them. It was truly a grand reception with multifarious items like garlands, rangolis, flowers and many ghee lamp plates accompanied by kirtana. First all the assembled devotees visited Srila Prabhupada’s Samadhi. At the Samadhi gate, they received a second welcome with flowers, ghee lamp plates and rangolis. HG Jananivasa prabhu placed Lord Nityananda’s padukas on Srila Prabhupada’s head. He also garlanded Srila Prabhupada and offered Him a ghee lamp.

After exiting from Samadhi, there was an arati of Lord’s padukas. They then proceeded to the Temple stopping briefly at the TOVP seva office where HG Jananivasa prabhu rang the large bell. He was again garlanded there by many enthusiastic devotees.

There was loud (imagine nearly 10 mrdngas played simultaneously!!) yet melodious kirtana performed by Gurukulis as they entered the Temple Hall. Then there was a rare to see Abhishek and Arati of Lord Nityananda’s padukas in the Panca Tattva hall. The assembled devotees then received the fortune of having Lord Nityananda’s padukas touch their head. On this occasion, HG Jananivasa prabhu distributed some sponsored Srimad Bhagwatam sets to Temple brahmacaris.

HG Braj Vilasa prabhu who had accompanied HG Jananivasa prabhu then spoke about their trip. He especially thanked Hg Ambarisha prabhu and his wife for their support. After him, HG Jananivasa prabhu spoke briefly. Finally, there was distribution of ekadasi prasadam (coconut laddus) to all assembled devotees.

Phase to Phase

Sundari’s mom passed away a month ago and so she invited a small group of family and friends for a
small memorial service.  She and her dad, with origins from Trinidad, and the Hindu family had a clear idea what they wanted from Brihat and I, “Speaking about the soul’s journey and please do some kirtan”.

The circle of family and friends, we discovered, are from everywhere – the U.S., Bosnia, India, a few
more places and even Halifax.

Kirtan also threw a group into a joyous state when after a four-hours-plus drive to Fredericton, Wade,
Brihat and I made it to Mazerolle’s Gallery for a “Tales from Trails” happening.  Kirtan is new, if not
fresh, for these attendees.  It’s not every day that you get to sing ancient mantras and physically move
to the pulsating beat of a drum.

Just across the street at city hall locals were clad in lime-coloured T-shirts in anticipation for raising
awareness on the dreaded Lyme disease which is prevalent enough in North America.  Good for them! I like to think that kirtan raises awareness towards the disease of me-consciousness and how we must get beyond bodily identification.  I am spirit that moves from one phase to the next hoping to one day get set free based on clean consciousness.

May the Source be with you!
