Gita Jayanti Celebration
Thursday December 12th @ 7:00pm

GITA JAYANTI – THE ANNIVERSARY OF BHAGAVAD GITA

Gita Jayanti is the anniversary of the immortal Bhagavad-Gita. Bhagavad Gita was spoken to Arjuna by Sri Krishna Himself on the battlefield of Kruksetra, a little over 5000 years ago. Gita Jayanti is celebrated worldwide by all followers of Sanatana Dharma, who revere Bhagavad Gita as their Divine Mother because She teaches us (in a non-sectarian and scientific manner) how to re-establish our lost relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead,Sri Krsna, our Divine Father. It is generally observed by en-mass recitation of all 700 verses of the Gita chanted throughout the day. Devotees also fast on this day since it is also Mokshada Ekadasi.  It is especially auspicious to distribute free copies of the Gita on this holy day.
The Bhagavad Gita was spoken to guide the conditioned soul on the path of spiritual advancement. It is presented as principle and details. The dominating principle of the Bhagavad Gita is to develop God consciousness. In the details, Sri Krishna explains three primary ways of doing this and then further expands on these paths. He then relates them to each other and brings forth the single most effective path for returning back to God.
So, on Gita Jayanti we think of Krsna and recite the Gita, and perform devotional service, but the real essence of the celebration is to bring more people to Krsna, to the wisdom of the Gita. As devotees, we want to bring others to Krsna, and when we do, Krsna is even
more pleased. And that is what Gita Jayanti is really meant to do: to please Krsna, to bring the Bhagavad-Gita to more people and bring more people to Krsna–and make us all dear to Krsna.
So please invite your friends and family to this sacred event, and try to distribute the Bhagavad-Gita to as many people as possible. This will please Krsna greatly and help us all succeed on our devotional path.

Radha Ashtami Celebration at ISKCON Brampton

RADHA ASHTAMI – APPEARANCE DAY OF SRIMATIRADHA RANI

ISKCON Brampton is pleased to invite you and your family for the celebration of Radha Ashtami (Radhashtami)Radhashtami is the celebration of the advent of Shrimati Radharani in this world who appeared over five thousand years ago. Lord Krishna is the male aspect of God, the energetic source of the supreme energy, and Shrimati Radharani is the female aspect, of the energy. So when Krishna descends, Shrimati Radharani also descends.

On this day in particular, we appreciate the mercy of Radha in order to get Krishna’s mercy. Radharani is simultaneously the personification of devotion, gratitude and topmost humility for Krishna, as well as the ideal example of what being a devotee means. The word “Radha” comes from the word aradhana (worship), and so Her name indicates that She possesses the topmost method of worship and devotion to Krishna. Devotees keep fast till noon on Radhastami.

Srila Prabhupada on Radhashtami in London in 1973:
“Anyone who comes before Radharani to serve Krishna, she becomes so pleased, “Oh, here is a devotee of Krishna,” She immediately recommends that person, “Krishna, here is a devotee. He is better than me”. This is Radharani. I may not be a devotee. I may be the most fallen rascal. But if I try to reach Krishna through Radharani, then my business is successful… [On this day], we should offer pushpanjali [flowers] and pray, “Radharani, kindly be merciful and tell about me to Krishna. Krishna is yours.” Krishna is not independent. Krishna is Radharani’s property. So you have to approach Krishna through Radharani. Today is an auspicious day. Worship Radharani very nicely and be happy.

Sri Krishna Janmastami 2013 Celebrations

SRI KRISHNA JANMASTAMI

Join us with your family and friends at ISKCON Brampton on Wednesday August 28th for the SRI KRISHNA JANMASTAMI Celebrations.

As stated in Bhagavad-gita, the Lord says that “His appearance, birth, and activities, are all transcendental, and one who understands them factually becomes immediately eligible to be transferred to the spiritual world.”– Chapter 3: Birth of Lord Krishna, Krishna Book by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Lord Krishna Himself in Bhagavad gita, Chapter 4 text 8 describes the reason of His appearance as follows:

paritranay sadhunam
vinsaya ca duskrtam
darma-samsthapanrthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge
“To deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear millennium after millennium.”

The sublime meaning of Sri Krishna’s birthday is His arrival for a reunion festival of loving exchanges with His eternal ecstatic servants; Janmastami is therefore an advent of the deliverer.

Balarama Appearance Day 2013 Celebrations

Descent of Balarama

Whenever Krishna appears in the material world, He is accompanied by His associates and paraphernalia. Five thousand years ago when Krishna descended into the material world, He was first preceded by Baladeva. Only after Baladeva give His mercy did Krishna descend, such is the intimate relationship between Krishna and Baladeva.

When Baladeva appeared as the seventh child in the womb of Devaki, she could understand that this was a divine child and this made her all the more concerned about His safety. Even Kamsa could sense His potency and he became fearful, thinking he may have been tricked by the prophecy that he will be slain only by the eight child of Devaki. At this time Krishna instructed Yogamaya, His internal potency, to transfer the unborn child from the womb of Devaki to that of Rohini, one of the other wives of Vasudeva, who was hiding from Kamsa in the house of Nanda Maharaja in Gokul.

In this way Balarama was born in Gokul under the protection of Nanda Maharaja. Garga Muni the venerable kulguru (family priest) of the Yadu dynasty revealed to Rohini that the child she was carrying was indeed that of her husband Vasudeva. At the time of the name-giving ceremony he named the child Rama, one who gives all pleasures. Referring to the immense strength of the child, Garga Muni predicted that He will also be known as Balarama (bala meaning strength). Since He was forcibly attracted from the womb of Devaki to that of Rohini, He was also be called Sankarshana. As the son of Rohini He was known as Rohini-nandan and as the elder brother of Krishna He was also called Douji.

BALARAMA APPEARANCE DAY PROGRAM INCLUDES:

Lord Jagannath must be the first to taste your offering, therefore, no tasting or sampling. For more information regarding bhoga preparations, please contact Vidyanidhi Prabhu.

There is always opportunity to serve. Volunteers are needed for set-up, directing Ratha, prasadam distribution, clean-up. For more information on how you can serve, please contact Aindra Dasa by email vdussoye@gmail.com or call 905-636-9466. For sponsorships, please contact Mother Krsna Smaran (kavitabalram@yahoo.com).

Yoga means to link with God in loving exchange. Lord Krishna teaches in Bhagavad-gita (6.47) that the highest yogi is “he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service.” The Rathayatra Festival is a potent transcendental stimulus for developing love of Godhead. The Rathayäträ procession – The children’s festival of chariots is a spectacular parade of the hand–pulled chariot carrying Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subadra amidst energetic singing, drumming and dancing – can attract even the materialistic person. By becoming attracted to the Supreme Lord in His form as Jagannatha one loses his attachment to the illusory happiness of the mundane world. Thus simply by seeing the Deities, simply by hearing the transcendental sound vibration of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, or simply by tasting foodstuffs offered to Krishna, anyone can begin his progress back to Godhead without difficulty. And by applying his energy in understanding the Krishna consciousness movement and participating in glorifying the all-blissful Lord of the universe, one can revive one’s eternal loving relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Lord Balarama Appearance Day – Tuesday August 20th @ 7:00pm

Please mark your calendar for this special event. August 20th @ 7:00pm celebrations of Lord Balarama Appearance day at ISKCON Brampton.

Who is Lord Balarama?

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is the fountainhead of all incarnations. Lord Balarama is His second body. They are both one and the same identity. They differ only in form. Balarama is the first bodily expansion of Krishna, and He assists in Lord Krishna’s transcendental pastimes. He is the source of the entire spiritual world and is the adi-guru, the original spiritual master.

He assumes five other forms to serve Lord Krishna. He Himself helps in the pastimes of Lord Krishna, and He does the work of creation in four other forms called the catur-vyuha (four armed) forms known as Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradyumna and Anirudha. He executes the orders of Lord Krishna in the work of creation, and in the form of Lord Sesa He serves Sri Krishna in various ways. In all the forms He tastes the transcendental bliss of serving Krishna. No one can approach Krishna without first getting the mercy of Baladeva.

Details about the program will be announced soon.

Harinama Sankirana Saturday June 1st, 10:00am @ Gage Park, Brampton

“This sankirtana movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.” Sri Siksastakam

Please join us for this Harinama  at Gage Park on Saturday morning. If you’ve never been on sankirtan before, or if you’ve always wanted to go but never had the time to this is the opportunity to get started. There are various ways to serve; playing drum or kartala, kirtan singing, dancing, distributing books, cards or candies. For more information, please contact Rajneesh Prabhu – rsalwan@ryerson.ca.

Sunday Feast, June 2nd @ 11:00am with His Grace Vijaya Prabhu
We are pleased to invite you to the Sunday Feast with His Grace Vijaya Prabhu. After joining the Krsna consciousness movement in 1978 in Miami Florida, Vijaya prabhu was soon asked to distribute books. He did this well and became the number one distributor. In 1983, he was asked to be the sankirtan leader, which he did and the result was that the Miami temple became a top book distribution center in the country. In 1990, the temple president wanted to do another service, so the administrators asked Vijaya prabhua to be the president. He did so reluctantly, on the condition that he would do it only until they found someone else. As president, he didn’t decrease his book distribution, and after nine months they found someone to replace him. In 1991, he went to Los Angles to distribute books because the areas in Miami had become very difficult to work in. In 1995, inspired by His Holiness Ganapati Swami, Vijaya prabhu started distributing from a book table at universities, and this proved to be very successful, so he is still doing it. In 2002, the GBC asked Vijaya prabhu to be its international minister of book distribution and travel worldwide. Seeing this as an opportunity to increase his service, he accepted, and fortunately book distribution has increased worldwide.

THE ADVENT OF LORD NRSIMHADEV

In the purport of 7.8.51 of Srimad-Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada writes, “The Supreme Personality of Godhead in His transcendental form of Lord Nrsimhadev is always ready to kill the demons who always create disturbances in the minds of honest devotees. To spread the Krishna consciousness movement, devotees have to face many dangers and impediments all over the world, but a faithful servant who preaches with great devotion to the Lord must know that Lord Nrsimhadev is always his protector.”

Lord Nrsimhadev is therefore worshipped by the devotees as their Supreme Protector and they also pray that He vanquishes all obstacles that they may face on the path of devotional service. So it is with much enthusiasm that the devotees come to together to worship the Lord on this day of His appearance in the material world.

Special prayers are sung for Lord Nrsimhadev throughout the day and a complete fast is to be observed by the devotees till dusk to express their love and gratitude to the lotus feet of the Lord.

Rama Navami 2013 Celebrations

Come and Sing With us the Glories of Sri Rama and His Eternal Associates

“Raghupati Ragava Raja Ramapatita Pavana Sita Rama”

Translation: “Lord Rama is the chief of the house of Raghu and the saviour of the fallen souls; all respects and praise to mother Sita and Lord Ramacandra.”

The word RAMA literally means one who is divinely blissful, gives joy to others and in whom sages rejoice. The name of Lord RAMA is the greatest purifier of the heart. It not only wipes away all one’s sins but it wipes away the sinful tendencies as well. Lord Shiva tells His consort Parvati: “This Ram Naam is equal to the Lord’s one thousand names,or repetition of the mantra a thousand times.”

Lord Ramachandra is an incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the ideal king. He appeared in the Treta-yuga, more than two million years ago. Under the order of His father, Maharaja Dasaratha, Lord Ramachandra lived in the Dandakaranya forest for fourteen years, along with His wife, Sita Devi, and His younger brother, Lakshmana. After the demon Ravana kidnapped His wife, Lord Ramachandra, with the help of His faithful servant Hanuman, killed Ravana and rescued her. The history of Lord Ramachandra’s pastimes is recounted by the sage Valmiki in his Ramayana. (See also Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.22, 2.7.23-25, 5.19.1-8 and Canto Nine, Chapters 10 and 11.)
