 About Damodar Festival

Kartik (Damodar) is the best, the purest of purifiers, and most glorious of all months. Kartik month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krishna. This month is full of bhakta vatsalya. Any vrata, even the smallest, will yield huge results. The effect of performing a Kartik Vrata lasts for one hundred lifetimes, Kartik or the festival of offering lamps to Lord Krishna, glorifies Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda. One should daily offer a ghee lamp to Krishna and sing the Damodarastakam, meditating on meaning.
Check this link out for Damodarastakam http://www.krishna.com/damodarastakam

The essential lesson that we learn from Damodar lila is that the all-pervading,all powerful Lord is easily conquered by the love of His devotee and love saturated devotees desire nothing else except to constantly hear and glorify His pastimes.
Damodarstakam 4-5 specially signifies the essence and the sweetness of this month.

Following are excerpts from some scriptures (Puranas) describing the glory of the pious Kartik month:
“If somebody performs even a little worship of Lord Shri Hari in this month, He offers that devotee His own abode.”

“If somebody burns a lamp in the temple of Lord Shri Hari even for a short time (in the month of Kartik), then whatever sins, he has acquired for millions of kalpas (one kalpa equals 1000 yugas) are all destroyed.”

“A person, who for the entire month of Kartik eats only once a day, becomes very famous, powerful and heroic.”

“A person who happily reads the Bhagavad Gita in the month of Kartik does not return to the world of birth and death.”

“Of all gifts, the gift of a lamp during the month of Kartik is the best. No gift is its equal.”

“The pious result obtained by bathing in all holy places and giving all charities is not equal to one ten-millionth part of the result obtained by following the vow of Kartik.”

About Govardhan Puja & Annakut

The day after Diwali is referred to as Annakuta, or Govardhana Puja.On this day the inhabitants of Vrindavan (Lord Krishna’s abode on Earth) traditionally held a harvest festival in honor of the demigod King Indra who provided the rains essential for the harvest. Lord Krishna by defeating Indra’s pride demonstrated that he is Deva Deva, Lord of the demigods, and that the purposes for which demigods might be worshiped could easily be served simply by worshiping Him, the cause of all causes.
This day is also significant as the day on which, several thousand years later, Srila Madhavendra Puri established a temple for the self-manifest Gopala Deity on top of Govardhana Hill.
To celebrate this festival, devotees build a replica of Govardhana Hill made of various opulent foods, worship Lord Krishna as the lifter of Govardhana Hill, worship the hill as His incarnation, and worship the cows and bulls which are dear to the Lord.

By chanting the holy name of the Supreme Lord, one comes to the stage of love of Godhead. Then the devotee is fixed in his vow as an eternal servant of the Lord, and he gradually becomes very much attached to a particular name and form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. As his heart melts with ecstatic love, he laughs very loudly or cries or shouts. Sometimes he sings and dances like a madman, for he is indifferent to public opinion.

TRANSLATION
By chanting the holy name of the Supreme Lord, one comes to the stage of love of Godhead. Then the devotee is fixed in his vow as an eternal servant of the Lord, and he gradually becomes very much attached to a particular name and form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. As his heart melts with ecstatic love, he laughs very loudly or cries or shouts. Sometimes he sings and dances like a madman, for he is indifferent to public opinion.

About HH Bhaktimarga Swami
To ISKCON devotees everywhere, the name Bhaktimarga Swami conjures up images of powerful, out-of-the-box stage productions; and of energetic kirtans, full of stomping dance moves and jubilant smiles. With a background in fine arts, Swami also developed a passion for the performing arts even in the course of his duties as a monk.Casting, scripting, and directing morality theatre takes him annually to venues from North America to India and Africa.Swami is a consistent feature in “The Longest Road”, a recent National Film Board documentary detailing the history of the people who shaped or were shaped by the Trans Canada Highway, the world’s longest continuous maintained road.he went the way of a pilgrim and walked on foot across country from west to east and then back for a return journey for atleast four times.

Somehow or other, one must consider the form of Krsna very seriously. Then, by one of the five different processes mentioned above, one can return home, back to Godhead. About Radhastami(Fasting till Noon)
ISKCON Brampton is pleased to invite you, your family & your friends for the celebration of Radhastami. Radhastami is the celebration of the advent of Shrimati Radharani in this world who appeared over five thousand years ago. Lord Krishna is the male aspect of God, the energetic source of the supreme energy, and Shrimati Radharani is the female aspect, of the energy. So when Krishna descends, Shrimati Radharani also descends.

On this day in particular, we appreciate the mercy of Radha in order to get Krishna’s mercy. Radharani is simultaneously the personification of devotion, gratitude and topmost humility for Krishna, as well as the ideal example of what being a devotee means. The word “Radha” comes from the word aradhana (worship), and so Her name indicates that She possesses the topmost method of worship and devotion to Krishna. Devotees keep fast till noon on Radhastami.

Srila Prabhupada on Radhashtami in London in 1973:

“Anyone who comes before Radharani to serve Krishna, she becomes so pleased, “Oh, here is a devotee of Krishna,” She immediately recommends that person, “Krishna, here is a devotee. He is better than me”.
This is Radharani. I may not be a devotee. I may be the most fallen rascal. But if I try to reach Krishna through Radharani, then my business is successful… [On this day], we should offer pushpanjali [flowers] and pray, “Radharani, kindly be merciful and tell about me to Krishna. Krishna is yours.” Krishna is not independent. Krishna is Radharani’s property. So you have to approach Krishna through Radharani. Today is an auspicious day. Worship Radharani very nicely and be happy.

About Janmashtami:(Fasting till midnight)

darma-samsthapanrthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge

“To deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants, as well as to restablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear millennium after millennium.”

In Bhagavad-gita, the Lord says that” His appearance, birth, and activities, are all transcendental, and one who understands them factually becomes immediately eligible to be transferred to the spiritual world. “
– Chapter 3: Birth of Lord Krishna, Krishna Book by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
The sublime meaning of Sri Krishna’s birthday is His arrival for a reunion festival of loving exchanges with His eternal ecstatic servants.Janamastami is therefore an advent of the deliverer.
You may find a beautiful class on Janamastami by Srila Prabhupada here

About Vyasa Puja Celebration

“Sri-Guru-Carana-Padma,Kevala-Bhakati-Sadma,Bando Mui Savadhana Mate”

“The lotus feet of the spiritual master are the abode of pure devotional service.I bow down to those lotus feet with great care and attention.”
-[Prema-bhakti-candrika]

Vyasa-puja is an annual celebration by the devotees of Lord Krishna to offer homage to their guru, or spiritual master. Vyasa-puja means “worship of Vyasa,” Vyasa being the compiler of the Vedic scriptures and thus the original spiritual master.

The ceremony takes place on the spiritual master’s appearance day (a respectful term for “birthday”). Disciples honour their guru because he authentically transmits the teachings of Vyasa.

Although the International Society for Krishna Consciousness has many spiritual masters, or acaryas, Srila Prabhupada, its founder-Acharya, holds a permanent position of special esteem. So just as when he was physically present (1965 through 1977), each year his disciples and followers gather on his appearance day to praise him and recall his glories.

About His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj

His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj appeared on this planet on the most auspicious day of Annada Ekadashi, on August 14, 1944, in New Delhi, India.  After visiting the ISKCON temple in Montreal, Canada in September of 1967, Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj yearned to meet a Vaishnava guru and got the opportunity to meet Srila Prabhupada there in 1968. The combination of his family background and his search for spiritual life led him to Srila Prabhupada and he accepted initiation from him in early 1969. Gopal Krishna Goswami played a leading role in inspiring and completing several large ISKCON temples, such as the Glory of India temple in New Delhi in 1998 (inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee) and the Radha Bankebihari temple in Nairobi. Currently he is the GBC(Governing Body Commission) of over thirty temples around the world and serves as an initiating spiritual master, with disciples in Russia, America, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The Advent of Lakshmi Narasimhadeva

In the purport of 7.8.51 of Srimad-Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada writes, “The Supreme Personality of Godhead in His transcendental form of Lord Narasimhadeva is always ready to kill the demons who always create disturbances in the minds of honest devotees. To spread the Krishna consciousness movement, devotees have to face many dangers and impediments all over the world, but a faithful servant who preaches with great devotion to the Lord must know that Lord Narasimhadeva is always his protector.”

Lord Narasimhadeva is therefore worshipped by the devotees as their Supreme Protector and they also pray that He vanquishes all obstacles they may face on the path of devotional service. So it is with much enthusiasm that the devotees come to together to worship the Lord on this day of His appearance in the material world.
Special prayers are sung for Lord Narsimhadev throughout the day.And a complete fast is to be observed by the devotees till dusk to express their love and gratitude to the lotus feet of the lord.

“In this age, chanting of Hare Krishna Mantra is the prime business of the devotee, and preaching of this Hare Krishna Mantra by outdoor Sankirtana and propagation of literature is our more important business. Side by side, Deity worship is recommended, but when there is a question of accepting one of them, we shall prefer to accept chanting of Hare Krishna Mantra first.”
