Sunday Love Feast – 22nd Oct 2017 – Special Vedic Discourse by His Holiness Bhakti Marga Maharaj

About HH Bhaktimarga Swami:

Over forty years ago it was a youthful quest for life that led Chatham, Ontario born Bhaktimarga Swami, (formerly John Peter Vis), to adopt an Eastern order of monastic life that landed him in the Hare Krishna movement. Since that time, as a celibate monk, Swami has evolved as an instructor of bhakti-yoga and mantra meditation. His presentation on this subject of life, based on the popular Hindu text, “Bhagavad-gita” is lively, candid and informative.
With a background in fine arts, Swami also developed a passion for the performing arts. Even in the course of his duties as a monk, he expands his portfolio and manages to take an active role in theatrical productions from epics of ancient Indian origin. Casting, scripting, and directing morality theater takes him annually to venues from North America to India and Africa.
Finally, Bhaktimarga Swami achieved a remarkable feat in 1996 when he went the way of a pilgrim and walked on foot cross country from west to east and then back for a return journey from Cape Spear, Newfoundland to Vancouver Island in 2003, going full circle. He likes to share of his unique experiences and fond memories on the road after trekking 16,000 kms. Swami is a consistent feature in “The Longest Road”, a recent National Film Board documentary detailing the history of the people who shaped or were shaped by the Trans Canada Highway, the world’s longest continuous maintained road.

About His Grace Subhavilas Dasa
It has been over 40 years since he joined ISKCON. He saw devotees chanting on the streets in Toronto and was immediately attracted. He started going to the temple, which at that time in the late 60’s was in a small house.He met Srila Prabhupada first time in Chicago.
Srila Prabhupada instructed him and Visvakarma Dasa to secure the current ISKCON Toronto temple and had the great fortune to assist Srila Prabhupada’s mission in this manner.He used him as his instrument again to help secure the ISKCON Chicago temple where Sri Kishor Kishori reside today. There were many temple openings and festivals that he has been blessed to coordinate and be a part of in the early days of ISKCON.
After his brahminical initiation by Srila Prabhupada, he had the privilege to serve ISKCON in many ways including:
Vice President of ISKCON Toronto in the 70’s;
 President of ISKCON Chicago in the early 80’s;
 Zonal Secretary for USA mid-west in the 80’s; and

Deepavali/Govardhan Puja:
Celebration on Fri,Oct 20(7pm)

Govardhan Lila:This pastime, proves Krishna’s unlimited love for His devotees. In the Bhagavad-gita (18.66), Krishna assures us that if we abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender to Him, He will protect us in all situations. By lifting Govardhana Hill, Krishna showed how He will go to any extent to protect His loving devotees.
Deepavali:To celebrate this event the residents of Ayodhya used lamps to illuminate the city, which in the Lord’s fourteen-year absence had come to resemble a city haunted by ghosts.When Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya the city’s residents regained their life and their distressed hearts lit up with joy. This light became manifest in the form of lighted lamps.

Come and celebrate with us – BALARAM JAYANTI – Aug 7th,2017 – Civic Holiday (Monday) – Program starts at 5:00pm
→ ISKCON Brampton

BALARAM -JAYANTI :

Lord Balarama is the adi-guru, the original spiritual master. In Chaitanya Lila, Lord Balarama appears as Lord Nityananda, the bestower of mercy to even the most fallen conditioned soul. Therefore His appearance as the son of Rohini and Vasudeva is celebrated by devotees with great jubilation.
On the day of Balarama-purnima, devotees fast till noon. At around 10 a.m., an abhisheka is performed and bhoga of varieties of sweets, savories, chutneys, rice, sabjis, cakes and pastries are offered. Flowers are offered at Their lotus feet and a maha-arati is performed, and a grand feast is served at 2 p.m.
In the evening, devotees commemorate Lord Balarama’s breaking a honey pot. A huge pot containing honey and some maha-prasada are placed in pots and tied up on a post. Some devotees are blindfolded, and they try to break that pot using a stick. The pot moves up and down. It’s fun time for devotees watching and participating. Even though everyone is eager for a taste of the honey, hardly anyone can hit the pot. When the pot is broken, devotees relish the honey and the maha-prasada. Such an event gives us a glimpse of the bliss that the gopas might have enjoyed in the company of the Lord while breaking the pots in Vraja.
Balarama-purnima also marks the end of Jhulana-yatra and the first month of chaturmasya.

About Bathing Festival

Snana-yatra/bathing festival is an important pastime of Lord Jagannatha at our temple.On this day, Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra allow Themselves to be bathed by all following the original tradition of worship at Jagannatha Puri.This bathing goes on for a few hours in the midst of kirtaniyas glorifying Their Lordships and the chanting of the maha-mantra. Lord Jagannatha’s prasada is also offered to all visitors.Due to the sacred bath,colours painted on the images fade out. The Daitas repaint the images with new colours and on the 16th day the Deities appear in their new forms after colouration become ready for the public view. The festival of the first appearance of the Lord Jagannatha to his devotees is called ‘Netrotsava’ (festival for the eyes) or ‘Nava Yauvanotsava’ (festival of the ever new youth).
There is a general belief that the devotee washes away all his sins if he gets a vision of the Lord on this day.

Join us this Sunday for Love Feast – Vedic Discourse by His Grace Subhavilas Prabhuji
→ ISKCON Brampton

About His Grace Subhavilas Prabhuji: It has been over 40 years since he joined ISKCON.

Vice President of ISKCON Toronto in the 70’s;
 President of ISKCON Chicago in the early 80’s;
 Zonal Secretary for USA mid-west in the 80’s; and
 GBC(Governing Body Commission) appointed him as Global  Coordinator for Community Relations in the 90.

Vice President of ISKCON Toronto in the 70’s;
 President of ISKCON Chicago in the early 80’s;
 Zonal Secretary for USA mid-west in the 80’s; and
 GBC(Governing Body Commission) appointed him as Global  Coordinator for Community Relations in the 90.

Sunday Love Feast – Special Vedic Discourse by His Holiness Bhakti Marg Maharaj
→ ISKCON Brampton

About HH Bhaktimarga Swami:
Over forty years ago it was a youthful quest for life that lead Chatham, Ontario born Bhaktimarga Swami, (formerly John Peter Vis), to adopt an Eastern order of monastic life that landed him in the Hare Krishna movement.
