Celebrating Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance day – Extended sunday program – November 06,2016
→ ISKCON Brampton

Although Srila Prabhupada is no longer physically with us, on the spiritual platform he is very much present. He is present in his deity form, in his books and through his instructions. His mercy is available to all those who seek it.
Srila Prabhupada departed from this world on November 14, 1977 in Vrindavan, India. One would not usually celebrate the disappearance day of a person, especially one so loved and revered as Srila Prabhupada. However, the departure of a pure Vaishnava gives cause for jubilation because he returns to his eternal service at Krishna’s lotus feet in Goloka Vrindavan, the spiritual world.
As Srila Prabhupada explains, the appearance and disappearance of the Lord and his pure representatives from this world is a cause for celebration. While there is no need to lament the disappearance of the Lord’s pure nitya-siddha representative, at the same time the devotees feel great pangs of separation due to the manifest physical absence of His Divine Grace.
Join us on this auspicious occasion of the disappearance of our Founder Acarya.

Kartika or the festival of offering lamps to Lord Krishna glorifying Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda.

“In Kartika month, after bathing in the morning, one should worship Lord Damodara. At night, one should light brilliant lamps filled with either ghee or sesame-seed oil, and place them in these places – in the Lord’s temple, around the base of tulasi plants, and in the sky. During the month of Kartika, one should eat only vegetarian foodstuffs and the Lords prasad remnants. There should be incessant harinama-kirtana and smarana. Govardhana Puja & Annakut

The day after Diwali is referred to as Annakut, or Govardhana Puja. On this day the inhabitants of Vrindavan (Lord Krishna’s abode on Earth) traditionally held a harvest festival in honor of the demigod King Indra who provided the rains essential for the harvest. Lord Krishna by defeating Indra’s pride demonstrated that he is ‘Deva Deva’, Lord of the demigods, and that the purposes for which demigods might be worshiped could easily be served simply by worshiping Him, the cause of all causes.

This day is also significant as the day on which, several thousand years later, Srila Madhavendra Puri established a temple for the self-manifest Gopala Deity on top of Govardhana Hill.

To celebrate this festival, devotees build a replica of Govardhana Hill made of various opulent foods, worship Lord Krishna as the lifter of Govardhana Hill, worship the hill as His incarnation, and worship the cows and bulls which are dear to the Lord.

Dipavali:

To celebrate this event the residents of Ayodhya used lamps to illuminate the city, which in the Lord’s fourteen-year absence had come to resemble a city haunted by ghosts. When Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya the city’s residents regained their life and their distressed hearts lit up with joy. This light  manifested in the form of lighted lamps.
Offer ghee lamp to Lord with your family and friends.

About Bathing Festival/Snana Yatra

Snana-yatra is an important pastime of Lord Jagannatha at our temple. On this day, Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra allow Themselves to be bathed by all following the original tradition of worship at Jagannatha Puri. This bathing goes on for a few hours in the midst of kirtaniyas glorifying Their Lordships and the chanting of the maha-mantra. Lord Jagannatha’s prasada is also offered to all visitors.Due to the sacred bath, colours painted on the images fade out. The Daitas repaint the images with new colours and on the 16th day the Deities appear in their new forms after colouration become ready for the public view. The festival of the first appearance of the Lord Jagannatha to his devotees is called ‘Netrotsava’ (festival for the eyes) or ‘Nava Yauvanotsava’ (festival of the ever new youth).
There is a general belief that the devotee washes away all his sins if he gets a vision of the Lord on this day.

Fasting For Kamika Ekadasi
Fasting…………………on Fri Jul 29,2016
Breakfast……………..on  Sat Jul 30,2016 b/w 6.05am-10.57am

Every fortnight, we observe Ekadasi, a day of prayer and meditation. On this day we fast (or simplify our meals and abstain from grains and beans), and spend extra time reading the scriptures and chanting the auspicious Hare Krishna mantra.By constantly ‘exercising’ our minds through regular japa we can train our senses to push the threshold of contentment.

English audio glorification of all Ekadasis is available here
  Japathon-Congregational Mantra Meditation
Next meeting on Aug 13 ,2016(5.30am-9.30am) at ISKCON Brampton

The chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His Energy to give protection to the conditioned soul.japa, when performed with focus and attention, can subdue the agitating effects of one’s mind and senses. The senses, of which the mind is also one, are constantly being stimulated by the external world  – by gross and subtle matter.
If you have not chanted before, and would like to participate in this program, we will be very happy to show how you can do this.
All welcome. We’ll loan you a set of Beads!

Special Program : Iskcon Brampton is welcoming His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj – Saturday 23rd, 2016 – 6:00pm to 8:00pm
→ ISKCON Brampton

About His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami
After visiting the ISKCON temple in Montreal, Canada in September of 1967, Gopal Krishna Goswami yearned to meet a Vaishnava guru and got the opportunity to meet Srila Prabhupada there in 1968. Gopal Krishna Goswami, originally from Delhi, India had a religious background and had great respect for sadhus or saints. The combination of his family background and his search for spiritual life led him to Srila Prabhupada and he accepted initiation from him in early 1969. Gopal Krishna Goswami has served as personal secretary to Srila Prabhupada at various times.
After graduating from Delhi University in 1964, Gopal Krishna Goswami studied business management in France under a French government scholarship. He also studied for some time at Sorbonne University in Paris. While pursuing business management at McGill University in Montreal, Gopal Krishna Goswami began contributing to ISKCON by financially assisting the Montreal temple. In December of 1974 he was made a GBC member by Srila Prabhupada and then transferred to India where he initially headed projects in Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Madras, Mayapur and Kanpur. His GBC responsibilities extended to other parts of Southeast Asia as well. Entrusted by Srila Prabhupada to visit the former Soviet Union in 1976 and 1977, Gopal Krishna Goswami acted as the representative of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust to promote the placement of Srila Prabhupada’s books at fairs and in libraries. He was very well received, as were the books he was presenting. Gopal Krishna Goswami has served extensively in BBT (as chairman and trustee) in India, arranging for translation of Srila Prabhupada’s books into various regional languages and their distribution far and wide. He continues to encourage BBT book distribution in his zones, especially in India.
In 1981 Gopal Krishna Goswami took sannyasa initiation and began to extend his travels to spread Krishna consciousness more widely in parts of the USA, Canada and eventually in parts of Africa. Currently, he is GBC of over thirty temples around the world and serves as an initiating spiritual master, with disciples in Russia, America, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Gopal Krishna Goswami played a leading role in inspiring and completing several large ISKCON temples, such as the Glory of India temple in New Delhi in 1998 (inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee) and the Radha Bankebihari temple in Nairobi.

We’ll look forward in spending this evening with you and your loved ones.

  Japathon-Congregational Mantra Meditation
Next meeting on July 9 ,2016(5.30am-9.30am) at ISKCON Brampton

The chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His Energy to give protection to the conditioned soul.japa, when performed with focus and attention, can subdue the agitating effects of one’s mind and senses. The senses, of which the mind is also one, are constantly being stimulated by the external world  – by gross and subtle matter.
If you have not chanted before, and would like to participate in this program, we will be very happy to show how you can do this.

Sunday Love Feast – May 29th,2016 – Vedic Discourse by His Grace Subhavilas prabhu
→ ISKCON Brampton

About His Grace Subhavilas Dasa
It has been over 40 years since he joined ISKCON. He saw devotees chanting on the streets in Toronto and was immediately attracted. He started going to the temple, which at that time in the late 60’s was in a small house. He met Srila Prabhupada first time in Chicago.

Srila Prabhupada instructed him and Visvakarma Dasa to secure the current ISKCON Toronto temple and had the great fortune to assist Srila Prabhupada’s mission in this manner. He used him as his instrument again to help secure the ISKCON Chicago temple where Sri Kishor Kishori reside today. There were many temple openings and festivals that he has been blessed to coordinate and be a part of in the early days of ISKCON.

After his brahminical initiation by Srila Prabhupada, he had the privilege to serve ISKCON in many ways including:
Vice President of ISKCON Toronto in the 70’s;
 President of ISKCON Chicago in the early 80’s;
Zonal Secretary for USA mid-west in the 80’s; and
GBC(Governing Body Commission) appointed him as Global  Coordinator for Community Relations in the 90.

    About Lord Narasimhadev(Fasting till Dusk)

In the purport of 7.8.51 of Srimad-Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada writes, “The Supreme Personality of Godhead in His transcendental form of Lord Narasimhadeva is always ready to kill the demons who always create disturbances in the minds of honest devotees. To spread the Krishna consciousness movement, devotees have to face many dangers and impediments all over the world, but a faithful servant who preaches with great devotion to the Lord must know that Lord Narasimhadeva is always his protector.”

Lord Narasimhadeva is therefore worshiped by the devotees as their Supreme Protector and they also pray that He vanquishes all obstacles they may face on the path of devotional service. So it is with much enthusiasm that the devotees come to together to worship the Lord on this day of His appearance in the material world.
Special prayers are sung for Lord Narsimhadev throughout the day.And a complete fast is to be observed by the devotees till dusk to express their love and gratitude to the lotus feet of the lord.

Appearance of Lord Narasimhadev(Fasting Till Dusk)
    Celebration on May 20,7pm

Sri Narasimha Jayanti is the appearance day of Lord Narasimha, the half-lion half-man incarnation of Supreme Lord Krishna, who appeared to protect Prahlada from his demoniac father Hiranyakashipu.

Hiranyakashipu received a special benediction from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed by any human being, demigod or animal or any other entities; he could not be killed by any kind of weapons, neither during day nor night. So, the Lord appeared in half-man half-lion form and killed him with His nails at twilight, thus satisfying all the conditions.

    On Sat May 7,6pm-8.30pm

Kirtan is an old traditional, group meditation. It heals our body, mind and soul. Although the kirtan involves music, the underlying art of kirtan chanting is not actually about musical ability or training-it is about the heart. Everyone can participate, regardless of age or cultural background. The purpose of this music is to get us out of our heads and into our hearts. The powerful healing and transformational energies of these ancient chants can help to reconnect us to the Ever-Present and Eternal Being that lies within us all. All the mantras, melodies, and instruments of kirtan are designed to lead us toward this meditative state.

Sunday Love Feast – May 1st, 2016 – Hear and associate with His Holiness Bhaktimarg Swami
    → ISKCON Brampton

About HH Bhaktimarga Swami:Over forty years ago it was a youthful quest for life that lead Chatham, Ontario born Bhaktimarga Swami, (formerly John Peter Vis), to adopt an Eastern order of monastic life that landed him in the Hare Krishna movement. Since that time, as a celibate monk, Swami has evolved as an instructor of bhakti-yoga and mantra meditation. His presentation on this subject of life, based on the popular Hindu text, “Bhagavad-gita” is lively, candid and informative.

With a background in fine arts, Swami also developed a passion for the performing arts. Even in the course of his duties as a monk, he expands his portfolio and manages to take an active role in theatrical productions from epics of ancient Indian origin. Casting, scripting, and directing morality theater takes him annually to venues from North America to India and Africa.

Finally, Bhaktimarga Swami achieved a remarkable feat in 1996 when he went the way of a pilgrim and walked on foot cross country from west to east and then back for a return journey from Cape Spear, Newfoundland to Vancouver Island in 2003, going full circle. He likes to share of his unique experiences and fond memories on the road after trekking 16,000 kms. Swami is a consistent feature in “The Longest Road”, a recent National Film Board documentary detailing the history of the people who shaped or were shaped by the Trans Canada Highway, the world’s longest continuous maintained road.

    About Lord Ramacandra

“Lord Rama is the chief of the house of Raghu and the saviour of the fallen souls; all respects and praise to mother Sita and Lord Ramacandra.”

The word Rama literally means one who is divinely blissful, gives joy to others and in whom sages rejoice. The name of Lord Rama is the greatest purifier of the heart. It not only wipes away all one’s sins but it wipes away the sinful tendencies as well. Lord Shiva tells His consort Parvati: “This Ram Naam is equal to the Lord’s one thousand names or repetition of the mantra a thousand times.”
The Ramayana’s perennial relevance lies in its power to inspire us to broaden our consciousness from “me” to “we” and to momentously expand the definition of “we” from the human-human paradigm to the human-divine. The kingdom of God, or Rama-rajya, is impossible without the awakening of God consciousness in the mass mind of the people of the world. Ramanavami is therefore a spiritual reminder of the noble ideals for which Lord Rama stood.
Devotees celebrate this day by fasting till sunset, singing and chanting His holy names, pastimes and glories.

Sunday Love Feast – March 27th,2016 – Guest speaker His Grace Jambavan Dasa Prabhu
    → ISKCON Brampton

Sunday Love Feast :The Sunday ‘Love Feasts’ go back to the very beginning of Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON period, which began in the mid-1960’s. He introduced this weekly festival as part of his overall preaching program.
The Founder Acarya of the Hare Krishna Movement, Srila Prabhupada started the “Sunday Love Feast” in 1966. He would personally invite guests, cook entire meal. He would serve the devotees a variety of tasty Indian-vegetarian preparations. Along with the vegetarian feast, Srila Prabhupada would sing the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra with the guests, dance and give a lecture on Bhagavad-gita.
Since then, this weekly Sunday Love Feast Festival is celebrated in all the Hare Krishna Temples around the world. It has evolved as an integrated celebration of Lord Krishna’s pastimes: chanting, hearing spiritual knowledge, dancing, eating, fellowship and generally sharing the bliss of God’s presence. Anyone can come regardless of beliefs as we welcome all into an experience of Love.
We would like to invite you to our weekly Sunday ‘Love Feast’. Every Sunday morning, spiritual-seekers gather for a culturally rich and vibrant experience of traditional spiritual culture which provides a flavour of Bhakti yoga – the yoga of love!
