For the 2nd year in a row, we will be celebrating Krsna Janmastami on the same day at ISKCON Scarborough.

We invite you and your family to the auspicious Janmastami celebrations at ISKCON Scarborough coming Monday night- Sep 3rd from 10 pm onwards. Devotees fast until midnight on this auspicious day. We will have a grand feast at 12.30 am.

Srila Prabhupada’s (founder Acarya of ISKCON) appearance day falls on Tuesday- Sep 4th, 2018. Devotees fast until noon on Tuesday.

We will be celebrating ISKCON Founder Acarya A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s appearance day during the grand Krsna Janmastami celebrations on Monday night- Sep 3rd, 2018.

Schedule for Monday- Sep 3rd 2018:
10 pm – 11 pm – Maha Abhishek on the Lordship
11.00 pm – 12 am –  Special Kirtan as we countdown to midnight
12 am – 12.30 am – Special Janmastami Arti
12.30 am onward – Grand Janmastami feast

Sri Krsna Janmastami
The auspicious day of the appearance of Lord Krsna is celebrated all over the world as Sri Krsna Janmastami. It is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krsna Paksha (waning moon) of the month of Shravana. Krsna, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared in Mathura as the son of Vasudeva and Devaki.

In Bhagavad Gita 4.8, Lord Krsna teaches the reason to his descend:

paritranaya sadhunam
vinasaya ca duskrtam
dharma-samsthapanarthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge

To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear millennium after millennium.

In Bhagavad Gita 4.9, Lord Krsna teaches us how to get out of this wheel of misery

janma karma ca me divyam
evam yo vetti tattvatah
tyaktva deham punar janma
naiti mam eti so ‘rjuna

One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.

The Appearance day of Srila Prabhupada 

In 1896, on the day following Janmastami, His Divine Grace, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada was born in Calcutta, India. In the Vaishnava calendar, this day is also known as Nandotsava: the day that Nanda Maharaja, Krishna’s father, prepared a grand festival to celebrate the birth of his son.

As founder-acarya of ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada plays a central role in the life of all ISKCON devotees. Everyone connected to ISKCON knows that without Srila Prabhupada’s courage and his unmotivated love and compassion to all the residents of the world, we would not have had the opportunity to intimately serve Lord Krishna.

ISKCON Scarborough will be celebrating the Appearance day of Lord Balarama on Sunday 26th Aug 2018. The actual Balarama Jayanti falls on Saturday 25th Aug 2018.

Program starts at 10.30 am on Sunday. On Sunday, devotees will also prepare and offer 64 varieties of dishes to Lord Jagannath , Lord Baladeva(Lord Balarama) and Mother Subhadra as a wonderful way to welcome the Lordships back to ISKCON Scarborough after they were out of the temple after snana Yatra and taking part in the 6th Annual Jagannath Festival on Aug 18th 2018 at the Millikan park.

Who is Lord Balarama?

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is the fountainhead of all incarnations. Lord Balarama is His second body. They are both one and the same identity. They differ only in form. Balarama is the first bodily expansion of Krishna, and He assists in Lord Krishna’s transcendental pastimes. He is the source of the entire spiritual world and is the Adi-guru, the original spiritual master.

Descend of Lord Balarama

Whenever Krishna appears in the material world, He is accompanied by His associates and paraphernalia. Five thousand years ago when Krishna descended into the material world, He was first preceded by Baladeva.

When Baladeva appeared as the seventh child in the womb of Devaki, she could understand that this was a divine child and this made her all the more concerned about His safety. Even Kamsa could sense His potency and he became fearful, thinking he may have been tricked by the prophecy that he will be slain only by the eight child of Devaki. At this time Krishna instructed Yogamaya, His internal potency, to transfer the unborn child from the womb of Devaki to that of Rohini, one of the other wives of Vasudeva, who was hiding from Kamsa in the house of Nanda Maharaja in Gokul.

In this way Balarama was born in Gokul under the protection of Nanda Maharaja.

Garga Muni the venerable kulaguru (family priest) of the Yadu dynasty revealed “ This child, the son of Rohiṇī, will give all happiness to His relatives and friends by His transcendental qualities. Therefore He will be known as Rāma. And because He will manifest extraordinary bodily strength, He will also be known as Bala. Moreover, because He unites two families — Vasudeva’s family and the family of Nanda Mahārāja — He will be known as Saṅkarṣaṇa”.

We are happy to host “Srila Prabhupada – Our Founder Acarya” seminar next Sunday (12th Aug 2018) from 11 am to 12 noon at ISKCON Scarborough.

Founder Acarya Series by HG Suresvara Dasa

For millennia the teachings and the rich culture of bhakti-yoga, or Krishna Consciousness, had been hidden within the borders of India. Today, millions around the globe express their gratitude to Srila Prabhupada for revealing the timeless wisdom of bhakti to the world.

Śrīla Prabhupāda did not simply carry the message of Lord Caitanya and Lord Krishna to us. While that in itself is a glorious task, Śrīla Prabhupāda, as the Founder-Ācārya, created the very foundation, function and vision of ISKCON as a global community aiming for the “re-spiritualization of the entire human society.” Śrīla Prabhupāda’s role, is ongoing. His presence is to be felt in the life of every ISKCON devotee today, and in the lives of devotees many centuries into the future. Understanding how Śrīla Prabhupāda is in the center of our lives and our society, and knowing how to keep him in that essential role, is the purpose of this course.

Please join in to participate in this series of Seminars – Founder Acarya, facilitated by HG Suresvara Dasa conveniently located all over the GTA to understand and celebrate the preeminent position of Srila Prabhupada in ISKCON as well as every follower’s foundational relationship with him.

About the Speaker:-
Suresvara dasa Vanacari joined the Hare Krishna movement in 1970
and received 1 st and 2 nd initiations from Srila Prabhupada in 1971 & 1972. Over the years Suresvara’s service has centered around Prabhupada’s books—studying them, distributing them, helping to produce them, writing articles based on them, and now, teaching from them.
In 2011, while teaching at the Mayapur Institute for Higher Education, his concern over the lack of connection many younger devotees were feeling for our founder-acarya reached a tipping point, so that year he began researching and presenting the seminar, “Srila Prabhupada, Our Founder-Acarya.”

With the encouragement of the Mayapur Institute and the GBC committee, “Srila Prabhupada’s Position,” Suresvara has been travelling the ISKCON world with the founder-acarya series since 2011, helping devotees deepen their relationship with, commitment to, and love for our beloved founder-acarya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
Prabhupada.

We are very pleased to inform you that HH Bhaktimarga Swami will be giving a special class coming Sunday at ISKCON Scarborough. The program starts at 10.30 am.

About HH Bhaktimarga Swami:
Over forty years ago it was a youthful quest for the life that leads Chatham, Ontario born Bhaktimarga Swami, (formerly John Peter Vis), to adopt an Eastern order of monastic life that landed him in the Hare Krishna movement. Since that time, as a celibate monk, Swami has evolved as an instructor of bhakti-yoga and mantra meditation. His presentation on this subject of life, based on the popular Hindu text, “Bhagavad-gita” is lively, candid and informative.

With a background in fine arts, Swami also developed a passion for the performing arts. Even in the course of his duties as a monk, he expands his portfolio and manages to take an active role in theatrical productions from epics of ancient Indian origin. Casting, scripting, and directing morality theatre takes him annually to venues from North America to India and Africa.

Finally, Bhaktimarga Swami achieved a remarkable feat in 1996 when he went the way of a pilgrim and walked on foot cross country from west to east and then back for a return journey from Cape Spear, Newfoundland to Vancouver Island in 2003, going full circle. He likes to share his unique experiences and fond memories on the road after trekking 16,000 kms. Swami is a consistent feature in “The Longest Road”, a recent National Film Board documentary detailing the history of the people who shaped or were shaped by the Trans Canada Highway, the world’s longest continuous maintained road.
