The power of his glance
→ KKSBlog

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 26 February 2013, Vrndavan, India, Caitanya Caritamrta Seminar, Part 1)

gaurangaWhen Lord Caitanya looks upon this material universe, everything changes. Suddenly, the entire inauspiciousness of the age of kali disappears. Srila Prabhodhananda Sarasvati Thakur mentions in the Caitanya Caritamrta, “Where is the influence of kali now? Where are all the sinful men?  Where have they all gone? Is there anyone who has escaped the influence of Lord Caitanya’s Movement?”

So that is a fact! Just the smiling glance of Lord Caitanya changes everything, and we thought it was us! All along we thought it was our own piety. We thought that we were natural devotees, that even as children we were always praying! Yes, but what about the other side, when we were not praying?

That interest in spiritual life was suddenly awoken in this age of darkness, in this age of materialism, simply because of the smiling glance of Lord Caitanya.

Srila Prabhupada: O my Lord! Persons who chant the holy names of your Lordship are far, far advanced in spiritual life, even if born in families of dog-eaters. Such chanters have undoubtedly performed all kinds of austerities and sacrifices, bathed in all sacred places, and finished all scriptural studies. (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 3.33.7)

ISKCON Scarborough – Gaura Purnima Celebrations
→ ISKCON Scarborough

Hare Krishna!

Please accept our humble obeisances!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

Gaura Purnima - the auspicious appearance day of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu will be celebrated in a grand manner coming Friday - March 6, 2015 at ISKCON Scarborough.

The actual appearance day falls on Thursday- March 5th 2015- On this auspicious day, all devotees fast until moon rise. Grand celebrations will take place at ISKCON Toronto on Thursday.

Gaura Purnima means "golden full moon" signifying that:

1) Lord Caitanya was “born” during a full moon, and
2) The Lord blesses everyone with the soothing, moon like rays of His sublime teachings.

Who is Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu:

Lord Caitanya is Krshna Himself appearing in the role of His own devotee.
He accepted the mood and golden complexion of Srimati Radharani, His consort and greatest worshiper.
Radha and Krsna became one to reveal the divine love of Goloka vrindavan to the world.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's most important biographers, such as Shri Vrindavan das Thakur (Caitanya Bhagavat), Shri Murari Gupta(Caitanya Charita Mahakavya), Shri Locana das Thakur(Caitanya Mangal) & Shrila Krishnadas Kaviraj (Caitanya Caritamrta)confirm this.

If we are to understand Shri Krishna, we have to do so through Lord Caitanya. First the giver, then the gift.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was the most merciful and munificent incarnation of the Lord, whose mercy surpassed the bounds of mundane discrimination in the matter of caste, colour and creed.

CC Adi 14.1:

“Things that are very difficult to do become easy to execute if one somehow or other simply remembers Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. But if one does not remember Him, even easy things become very difficult. To this Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu I offer my respectful obeisances”.

We welcome you, your family and friends to take part in the wonderful celebration coming Friday starting at 6.15 PM.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu 1 of 5
→ NY Times & Bhagavad Gita Sanga/ Sankirtana Das

The appearance day (birthday) of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is coming up this Thursday – March 5. Caitanya (1486-1534) inaugurated the Sankirtana Movement just over 500 years ago. Sankirtana is the public chanting of sacred mantras.  At that time,  the district of Navadvip in West Bengal was ruled by the Muslim governor – Chand Kazi – who had received complaints from both Muslims and Hindus alike about this sankirtana activity. The Kazi outlawed the chanting and imposed sever penalties on anyone who did not abide by the restriction. As a protest, and  hundreds of years before Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr,  Caitanya organized the first massive, civil disobedience in recorded history.

Since the start of the Gaura Purnima festival devotees have witnessed the rise of the eighth ring of the main dome.

Presently, two segments have been installed. Once it is finished the ninth and last ring will get underway, completing what will become historically the largest dome on any building in the world. As we write this the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium is even now attracting and delighting pilgrims from all over the world, especially those who have come for the Gaura Purnima Festival.

Hare Krishna! From Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir: HH Dhirasanta Goswami
Srila Prabhupada: “Do you think that people are coming to this temple to hear philosophy? And even if they hear the philosophy do you think they all understand the philosophy? No, they will come and they will go and be discouraged. You must attract them with kirtana and prasadam.” And he pointed out, “This is Lord Caitanya’s program, it is not my program, I have not invented this. This is Lord Caitanya’s program. Why are you trying to disrupt what I have created? Tomorrow I want at least five opulent preparations served to the guests that come to our temple. And if you don’t have any money in the temple, then I will give you money from the BBT.”

Hare Krishna! Lord Chaitanya’s Dancing, Vulnerability and Escapism
The dancing of Lord Chaitanya was so astounding that even the Lord of the universe, Sri Jagannatha was astonished. Lord Jagannatha who has seen the best of everything within and outside of the universes, how can He be astonished? Dance in Vaikuntha and Goloka must be beyond compare. The dance of destruction by Rudra must be inexplicably awesome. What was so unique about Lord Chaitanya’s dancing? Worldly scholars of our Gaudiya tradition will say that Srila Krishna Dasa Kaviraja and other Vaisnava author witnesses to such dancing have a tendency to exaggerate. After all, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is playing a ‘human’ role on earth, so should we not expect human limitations to His dancing at Ratha-yatra and elsewhere?

Hare Krishna! From Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir: HH Bhaktimarga Swami
There is a very popular mantra out there these days that is not the Hare Krishna mantra. I think it came out during Churchill’s time in Britain during the war. You’ve heard it. It goes, “Keep calm and carry on.” That mantra can very much apply in our Krishna Consciousness. A devotee can be very eager for making spiritual progress. “Yes. I really want to be, really, purely, one hundred percent, cent per cent Krishna Conscious. Right now!” We can be very demanding of that. But again, keep calm and carry on. Carry on with what? Carry on with the simple processes of devotional service, beginning with hearing and chanting.

The lotus of the mercy of the Lord
→ KKSBlog

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 19 February 2013, London, England, Srimad Bhagavatam 8.5.13)

white_lotus_
In the sankirtan movement of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the lotus is now fully opening.

śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaḿ vidyā-vadhū-juvenal,(Siksastakam, verse 1)

In this first verse of the Siksastakam, there are a few translations. One translation says something about the benediction moon and another translation speaks about the lotus that opens. It is said in the commentaries of the acharyas that actually there is a white lotus, that opens not during the day but it opens in the moonlight during the night. So it means that in the night of kali-yuga, in the darkest night, the lotus will fully open, the lotus of the mercy of the Lord will fully open.

So in this way, the sampradaya is carrying transcendental knowledge from one spiritual master to the next. Sometimes the knowledge remains a little hidden and the lotus is more closed but when the Lord himself comes then it fully opens! So in this way, we can understand that now it’s more easy then it ever was to overcome the illusory energy.
