"Bhagavad Gita As It Is - Thai and other books by Srila Prabhupada ordered/bought (50 plus) and soon to be in display for sale/distribution in Dev Mandir (biggest Hindu temple in Bkk. Thailand)" We have had good relations with the Dev Mandir (biggest Hindu temple in Bangkok) located in Sausincha since the beginning. The annual Jagannath rath-yatra in Bangkok which is generally held on the adjacent Sunday of the Jagannath rath-yatra in Puri ends in the Dev Mandir in Bkk. The temple authorities/priest come and perform arati/greet the deities - Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladev and Lady Subhadra. For many years, Iskcon Bkk has been doing kirtans in their Janmasthami celebrations and at times go and perform Hare Krishna kirtans in their temple. ECO-Vrindaban Board Meeting Minutes 01/13/2019

Mission Statement: ECO-Vrindaban promotes cow protection, local agriculture, and above all, loving Krishna, as envisioned by Srila Prabhupada, ISKCON New Vrindaban’s Founder-Acharya.

Participating Directors: Chaitanya Mangala (chair), Jamuna Jivani (board secretary), Makara, Olivia, Ranaka, and Vraja.

1. Directorship Renewals

Olivia was re-elected to a one-year term as a board member.

Ranaka was re-elected to a one-year term as a board member.

Jamuna Jivani was re-elected to a three-year term as a board member.

Makara was re-elected to a three-year term as a board member.

2. Board Advisor Renewals

WHEREAS: The ECO-V Board wishes to maintain a team of advisors.

RESOLVED: The Board renews Jaya Krsna’s position as an advisor for a one-year term.

RESOLVED: The Board renews Kalakantha’s position as an advisor for a one-year term.

RESOLVED: The Board renews Kripamaya’s position as an advisor for a one-year term.

3. Board Advisor Retirement

The Board accepts Bhima’s request to retire as an advisor, appreciates his 5 years of service and wishes him well in his future endeavors.

4. Officer Roles

WHEREAS: The ECO-V Board wishes to appoint individuals to the officer roles for 2019.

RESOLVED: The Board designates Vraja as the ECO-V president for one year, ending after the January 2020 annual meeting.

RESOLVED: The Board designates Ranaka as the ECO-V secretary and treasurer for one year, ending after the January 2020 annual meeting.

Sacinandana Swami: When we start our devotional practices it is possible to keep them up for a while out of a sense of duty. For a while it is possible to practice devotional service mechanically out of a sense of “I have to do this.” But in the end we are not machines! We cannot practice for a long time, if we only do it mechanically, and not experience the taste of it. We can only continue steadily if we get a genuine taste for it - the sweet and relishable taste of bhakti.

Indradyumna Swami: Swami Avdheshanand is the leader of one million renunciates called Naga Babas. The Naga Babas are given the privilege of being the first to bath in the Ganges at Kumbha Mela. But before they bath, their guru Swami Avdheshanand bathes. When we met yesterday he said, “Oh yes, I know you. We have met several times before. Your movement is spreading all over the world, creating a genuine spiritual revolution. It is most wonderful what your Prabhupada has done!” It is deeply satisfying to hear so many spiritual leaders speak highly of our spiritual master’s achievements.

Krishna-kripa Das: I have never seen a crowd so enthusiastic to encounter a Ratha-yatra procession as that watching the Gasparilla Pirate parade in Tampa, as Visvambhar Prabhu and devotees from Alachua, Gainesville, and Tampa chanted Hare Krishna and danced for three hours in jubilation. Viewers perfect their sight seeing Jagannath and their touch by touching the passing devotees. Not allowed to distribute literature, devotees share lollipops with the crowd. Unlimited thanks to Bhadra Prabhu, for arranging our participation for the second year in that popular Florida parade, and to all his assistants. January 26, 2018.
The parade featured some 120 floats. The devotees’ section began with a brilliant red and yellow Rathayatra cart, carrying gorgeous Deities of Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra.

Monkey seva

Govardhana is enchanting… and simultaneously educational. At every turn there is a lesson to learn. While pacing the peaceful perimeter path yesterday, a street vendor suddenly announced: “Monkey seva! Monkey seva!” It was an invitation to feed the mischief-making monkeys that had congregated. “Monkey seva is my thing” I thought, “I’ve been feeding this monkey-like mind for lifetimes!” Some nuts for our furry friends today, but the inner monkey has to diet. Walking a little further we encountered an elderly ascetic performing ‘dandavat parikrama.’ After diligently bowing prostrate 108 times in the same spot, he moves forward the length of his body, and repeats the process… with a vow to circumambulate the entire hill in that way. It’s a vow that may take ten years to complete. What focus! What dedication and determination! I don’t think my monkey-like mind would cooperate with that one.

I Walked by the Old Home

The Canadian Health Food Guide was recently re-released and it's been a cause of controversy over the fact that it weighs heavily on plant-based food and goes lean on the meat.  Yes, the meat and dairy industries aren't too pleased over it, yet it's a great victory for those who live by the more veg lifestyle——sattvic,as we say, or, in the mode of goodness. https://food-guide.canada.ca/en/food-guide-snapshot/

I know that some of my colleagues won't be too thrilled about the challenge to cow's milk.  Frankly, milk has in recent years been of poor quality.  Consumers of dairy are charged with supporting the merciless slaughter industry.  It is an ugly business.  Thoughtful are we when we give some consideration to supporting ahimsa (non-violent) products, that is milk from cows and bulls not raised for slaughter.

Discussions will go on, on the topic of the rights and wrongs of dairy consumption.  http://www.dandavats.com/?p=26636 Followers of bhakti-yoga will have to give much attention to this debate and hopefully vie for the cow/bull protection culture.

Regarding the abstinence of meat, I can proudly say I haven't put animal flesh to my tongue for forty-seven years.  I was reminded of my radical change in life when I walked by the old home on 187 Gerrard Street this evening.  It was the location of our temple back in the seventies. That's where I joined in early '73. I never turned back to civilian life, so to speak.  I believe I made a good decision.  It was perfect for me.  http://www.prabhupadaconnect.com/PhotoAlbum38.html

The Car and the Body

You would think that I would be fond of automobiles, since I have my best naps when I'm a passenger and they’re in motion. It doesn't seem to fail; the vibration lulls me to sleep.  For that I am grateful, however, I still view them, cars or trucks, as easy death machines.

On both to and from Kasyapa and Pachami's home in Oakville, I did doze—happily.  Nevertheless, the word is out that pedestrians are at a disadvantage. Apparently, there are record high accident fatalities in the Greater Toronto Area.  It seems like drivers are not careful enough, nor pedestrians, in some cases.

The case in point is that while we live in a world which glamorizes the auto, rarely do we speak of their dark side.  I think the car is a drug.

While on the topic of vehicles, our bodies are such. They do transport us at speed levels that are reasonable.  They also need care.  I was fortunate to have a person from the area do a massage from neck to toe.  Ugresh, fifty-two, came by the ashram to lay on the mustard seed oil and massage it in.  Mustard oil heats up the body which absorbs it quite well.  Massage is something that was thoroughly executed on the body of our guru, Prabhupada, daily.  It enhances relaxation, improves the movement of the bodily airs, makes muscles happy, and gives some addition to your life.

Walking and massage are two great ways of putting joy into life.  When walking, watch those cars.  They will give you a real hard massage if you’re not prudent.

From Alice to Hanuman

Long before I became a monk, I ventured off to a rock concert like many of us teens in those days.  A group of friends and I crossed the border to Detroit, to the venue Cobo Hall, to see music sensation and band, "Alice Cooper," do their theatrics on stage, in addition to hearing their music.  "I'm eighteen and I know what I want..." went the lyrics. It was interesting, although I didn't really care for the music.  His electric chair routine was unique.

Well, I was reminded of those words when I went to the Salwan residence in Brampton.  It was a party to honour Hiten who just turned eighteen.  He played mrdunga drum to a chanting session.  The capacity of the house was full.  We all got on our feet to dance.  Hiten had fun, and I believe he is more together than Alice Cooper was who declared he knew what he wanted at eighteen.  Alice went on to become a heavy drinker, eventually pulled away, got sober, and landed with Christian spirituality.

I'm happy for both.

Just prior to leaving for Brampton, which entailed walking through a brutal Arctic blast before reaching the subway, I chatted with Raymond who passed his eighteenth, six years ago.  Raymond just completed reading the epic, "The Ramayan."

"Man, oh man!" he remarked.  "This story is sooo good.  I just love it."

"What's your favourite part?"

"Hanuman!  Hands down!"

Today's the day for heroes.  There's Ram, Hanuman, Hiten, Raymond, and finally Alice.
