Here’s the good news about the world of book distributors: It used to be said that the sun never sets on the worldwide British Empire, but now it does. However, now the sun never sets on Srila Prabhupada’s book distributors. Every seven seconds a book is distributed, and 24/7 the books go out to conditioned souls. This gives many people the opportunity to understand that they belong in another world, a transcendental world where everyone has full knowledge and an eternal position and feels unlimited happiness in the service of Krsna.
In April, one of the temples in Sri Lanka had one of its most successful months. The city with the big score, Batticaloa, is not huge – 300,000 people. And the center has very few book distributors, but they did so well spreading Lord Krsna’s glories that they accumulated 4,510 book points, an 898% increase over April 2015. They distributed 2,760 books.

By Suvarna Radhika Devi Dasi There is one more aspect of spirituality that matches taking a flight. There we are on the plane, looking out the window, watching the fluffy white clouds float by. The flight attendants are charming, and give us what we want with a smile. To pass the time we read or nap or chat with our neighbor. Then the attendant announces, “Kindly prepare for landing.” Then we wonder, “Oh, two hours has already passed? I didn’t even notice!” Time is ticking and death fast approaching an inevitable, unstoppable force. We cannot afford to be complacent. We cannot be distracted by the false sense of happiness we sometimes feel. We must take up spiritual practice seriously and urgently so we can remember Krishna at the time of death. Otherwise we will find ourselves lying on our deathbed, looking back at yet another fruitless life, where we have achieved only temporary material successes and failures. The process of Krishna consciousness brings about a very dynamic and ongoing transformation – a transformation of our life and ourselves. Spiritual life is ever increasing – there are always new insights to gain and new discoveries to make.
Lord Chaitanya compares a devotee to an expert gardener, who cultivates the Bhakti Lata with care and attention throughout his entire life to one day harvest the fruit of pure love to Krishna. For our Bhakti Lata to grow healthy and strong it is of the greatest importance to regularly turn towards sources of nourishment and fresh inspiration in order to deepen our faith in the process of devotional service. It is like the fertilizer, which the expert gardener regularly adds to the soil.
And a source of such nourishment and inspiration is provided by the Bhakti Sangam Festival, where devotees come together and develop relationships on the basis of hearing Krishna Katha from advanced Sadhus, and chant the Holy Name together.
In CC, Madhya 3, 203 Srila Prabhupada is giving us the direct instruction to conduct such festivals:
“If one has the proper means and wealth, he should occasionally invite the devotees of Lord Caitanya who are engaged in preaching all over the world and hold a festival at home simply by distributing prasadam and talking about Krishna during the day and holding congregational chanting for at least three hours in the evening. This procedure must be adopted in all centers of the Krishna consciousness movement.”
Please join us for this joyful event and help us to fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s instruction in this regard. Thus we will always be enlivened to chant the Holy Name, hear Krishna Katha and remember the Lord while cooperating with each other in harmony and devotion.

Jambavan Dasa: The “Walk Across Detroit” was first conceived five years ago by myself, Jambavan Dasa, and my dear friend,Yugala Kishora Prabhu, as a pilgrimage meant to increase our dependence on the Lord. When we walked out that door on the first year, we didn’t bring any food, money, or even a cell phone with us. We simply left the house with the desire to remove all that was superfluous in life in order to better live in the moment with the world around us. Since that time, it has grown larger with each passing year, but that same spirit of faith, dependence, and humility is there. During the walk, we also strive to call out to Lord Gaurasundara to remove all that is superfluous within our heart so that we can be better prepared to serve him throughout the coming year. It is, in essence, a pilgrimage, and one which we are finding yields tremendous realizations if engaged in sincerely.
Concomitant with our pilgrimage for internal development, is also an opportunity to reach out to others in order to share with them the beauty of Krishna consciousness. As such, we engage in kirtana as we walk down the streets of Detroit and we speak with whoever comes out to talk with us. In fact, this year a few people even came up to us requesting literature, which we in turn gladly handed over to them. Each year we also have many appreciative people who come up and thank us for just walking through their neighborhood. Many times these people live in such distressed conditions filled with poverty that they are simply thankful that someone would take the time to walk down their street and bring them a message of hope and solace. Although we may not necessarily state that this is our intent as we make our way down their block, it is clearly felt within the hearts of these people.
The walk is also an opportunity to learn more about the City of Detroit itself. As we wind through the streets of the Motor City, I stop at certain historic locations in order to tell my fellow walkers more about the buildings, neighborhoods, etc. which we see along the way. For example, this year we visited the Del Ray neighborhood, including the historic Fort Wayne, as well as the magnificent Guardian Building, which is located downtown. In this way, those who preach in the City of Detroit are able to better understand the people and the place with whom they are trying to connect with.

Kavicandra Swami: Surabaya is the 2nd biggest city in Indonesia. They have a yearly beautiful flower festival parade. The government is kindly allowing us to join with Jagannath Ratha Yatra. As per the rules, the Ratha is covered with flowers.
Outside of India, I have never seen so many people waiting to see the Lord’s ratha coming. The population is majority Muslim with many Christians and some Hindus. The is no racial tension and all are friendly.
Pictures are worth a thousand words so join us.
The devotees organized very nicely, with around 150 attending. The kirtans s were,sweet, loud and clear so millions heard the holy names.

Satsvarupa dasa Goswami: A First Taste of Ecstasy.
In the very beginning I wasn’t completely overwhelmed by Bhagavad-gita classes by the Swami, but soon they took over my life. When I wasn’t there I was thinking about them, doing the chanting, and trying to read his book. Other things started to lose importance. It was like a magnet, heading for that storefront. In the beginning, I would do other things sometimes. One night after a delicious time at the storefront chanting and singing and getting into the atmosphere of the Swami, I left the storefront and got a pizza and a coke and thought that was also delicious. It was like a part of the same thing, to have a pizza and a coke sitting at the counter in a racy Puerto Rican neighbourhood, gobbling down a pizza in the summer and thinking, “Krishna! Krishna and everything.”
I didn’t have the whole thing together because there weren’t any rules and regulations. It wasn’t like nowadays. (If I did something like that in the later stages of knowing Prabhupada, I would think, “Boy, I was just at the temple and now I’m in maya.”) In the beginning, we had no idea what was right or wrong. It was just great to be chanting Hare Krishna. The more association I got with Swamiji, the more it got me to thinking about all those things I had done before meeting him – eating pizza, playing a jazz record … Bit by bit, Swamiji indicated that all those things should be replaced. No, I shouldn’t eat pizza, I shouldn’t drink coke, I shouldn’t listen to jazz. I shouldn’t even listen to Ravi Shankar. Those things were sense gratification. To love Krishna, I couldn’t have any sense gratification. There were right ways to do things. We innocently took to his instructions. We wanted to do what he said: “Okay, no sense gratification.”
Then I decided that there was no way to make such a transformation while living on Suffolk Street, so I moved to a new apartment. It was like a new life. A new sleeping bag (I left behind the bed, all the records, the cats, the marijuana, the LSD.) I moved in and painted the walls white, chained my typewriter to the radiator, remembered to bring my work clothes. No sense gratification. Early in the day I would make my own capātīs like crackers and put slices of tomato on them and then cover them over with a dish. Then later I would return to my own Hare Krishna lunch of a crisp capātī and slice of tomato. At night, some milk. Life was good.

We need are the blessings of the spiritual master. It is said that we should try to please the spiritual master. This is when we look at it from the disciple’s perspective. Now, I was thinking about it from guru’s perspective – the disciple has to please the guru, so what does that mean!? Does that mean that the guru just has to act pleased when the disciple has served up to a reasonable level which is commonly understood as acceptable behavior for a devotee? Should the spiritual master be pleased in that way or should he really be pleased in the heart?
I really thought about it and concluded that the guru-disciple relationship is based on truth and on nothing but truth. It will only work if there is truth: when the spiritual master is completely truthful and when disciple is completely truthful. That is all we have between us – the truth! So I was thinking and found that the truth is that the spiritual master has to be really pleased, pleased in the heart.
So I tell you – I am hard to please (laughter)! I have always been like that – a little spoiled, so not easy to please – as I want everything perfect and nothing else!

“Prahlad Maharaja said. ‘I had fallen in a blind well full of snakes following the general populace. But my Spiritual master, Narada Muni, save me. Therefore my first duty is to serve him. How could I give up his service?’ Prahlad was saying this to Lord Nrismhadeva. He was speaking to the Lord face to face but still he was remembering his spiritual master who had saved him. Srila Prabhupada quoted that verse in the mood of service to his spiritual master. And we follow in the line from Srila Prabhupada—so we have the same mood—how could we give up his service?
Other verses that Prahlad spoke to Lord Nrismhadeva also exemplify the mood of Srila Prabhupada. In one of them Prahlad says. ‘Generally saintly persons go to the mountains and perform vows of silence. They are concerned with their own liberation and they don’t want to be in cities where there are materialistic people and facilities. I am not one of those saintly persons. I do not want to be liberated alone. I am always thinking how to deliver these poor fools and rascals and make them happy by bringing them to the shelter of Your lotus feet.’ And Srila Prabhupada is very much in that mood.”

The Purpose of Grihastha Ashrama

By Giriraj Swami When I first joined ISKCON in 1969, we all were quite young and not many of us were married. And we were so new to Krsna consciousness and so dependent on Srila Prabhupada that we asked him for guidance in every area. When one devotee, Advaita dasa, who had recently gotten married, asked Srila Prabhupada about his having loving feelings for his wife, Prabhupada replied, “One hand cannot love the other hand directly—it must go through the stomach. Similarly, one person cannot love another person unless God is in the center.” There is the right hand, and there is the left hand, but what connects them is the body. In this example, the two hands are the husband and wife, and the body is Krsna. We had to change our consciousness, Prabhupada told us, and put Krsna at the center. That, he said, would make all the difference. When our false ego is at the center, we have so many problems, but when Krsna is at the center, our relationships become harmonious. This Festival was co-ordinated by ISKCON Kathmandu, NEPAL and organized by ISKCON Bhaktapur.
Festival took place at Bhaktapur Durbar Square that started with Sri Narasimha Yagya. As soon as Yagya completed there was a rainfall. Then continued with Maha Avisheka of Sri Nrisimha Dev .
The weather was such that there was sometime rain and sometime sun.
Then by doing Harinaam devotees headed towards Sri Jagannath Mandir to Continue Remaining Programs.
Cultural Programs and Nrisimha Katha by HG Patri Prabhu was held in Jagannath Mandir. Festival ended with Maha Feast. Jaya Nrisimha Dev!

ISKCON Sri Lanka – Food For Life Program

Due to the recent heavy rain showers in Sri Lanka, several areas of the country are affected. Around 60 people died by floods and 130 people died in landslides. Over 350,000 people have displaced and sheltered in various camps.
ISKCON Sri Lanka has been conducting the Food For Life program as it is the desire of Srila Prabhupada to distribute vegetarian food for the needy. As the responsibility to help the flood victims, the volunteers and members of ISKCON Sri Lanka distributed cooked vegetarian food (prasadam) to the affected areas in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The food is cooked in the kitchen at the temple and the food parcels are packed and distributed by the volunteers. We are doing this food distribution for the last five days.
Below are the photos of devotees making the food parcels and distributing to the affected areas.
The program started in a small way to assist these affected people; however with the increasing requests and requirements ISKCON Sri Lanka will have to extend the program in a bigger way.
ISKCON Sri Lanka seeks the support of the devotees worldwide to support for this cause and to assist to make this program reach many needy people at this time.

The arrangements in nature are perfectly ordered. Things would be at random without the careful planning of a scientific and engineering brain. Modern scientists are very proud of automation, but there is a scientific brain behind automation also. Even Albert Einstein agreed that there is a perfect brain behind all the natural physical laws. When we talk about “brain” and “operator,” these terms imply a person. They cannot be impersonal. One may inquire who this person is. People must learn to hate/ and if they can learn to hate/ they can be taught to love/ for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. II – Nelson Mandela. How does one begin hating anything else? What is the origin of this feeling? Let us begin by trying to understand the origin of 'hate'. Hate of course is an emotion directly opposing love and therefore it is part of material nature's duality. Duality means two, or pair, as love-hate, like-dislike, day-night, birth-death, up-down, victory-loss. The Bhagavad-gita says that everywhere you look, you will find everything in two's or pairs. Why? That is the nature of this world. If it is natural for this world to have everything in two's, then why are we not happy with this arrangement? Exhausted by days and days of hard work gives up all hopes of fixing it and decides to use the rest of the carts. The morale of the devotees plummets deeply and then something happens!

Jusaniya Devi Dasi, disciple of Srila Prabhupada left her body.
Dear disciples of Srila Prabhupada,
I am the son of your Godsister Jusaniya Devi Dasi, and I am writing you this message on her account to inform you that in the very early hours of yesterday morning my mother passed from this world, here in Phoenix, due to complications from the cancer she had been struggling with, on and off, for the past six years.
My brother, Yudistira, and myself were at her bedside as she passed, taking her last breaths, with the Holy Names sung softly to her and our prayers and love holding her as best we could.
Jusaniya was kind and warm, with a generous spirit. She was always there to take part in both the joys and sorrows of others, even in the face of personal difficulty. She was such a sincere soul. She continued to work with care to attain and deepen her most authentic spiritual experience and expression of self and love.
I am praying to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and to the divine couple, Sri Sri Radha Krishna to please accept her and care for her. And I am begging all of you to please, please hold my mother in your prayers and bless her with the strength of your open hearts.
