Sincerity is more important than procedure
→ The Spiritual Scientist

But in everything we do, devotion and sincerity are the real things. There is a word in Sanskrit: bhava-grahi-janardana. This means the Lord accepts service in devotional emotion. If we are sincere in offering something to the Lord in devotional love, He will accept it. The procedure may not be very right, but the desire being sincere, He accepts our offering. This is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita that He accepts foodstuffs from devotees because they are offered to Him in complete love and affection (Srila Prabhupada Letter to Mandali Bhadra, 25th May, 1969).

Janmastami Celebration at Sri Jagannatha Mandir Kuala Lumpur
→ ISKCON Malaysia

BY SANTI VARDHANA CAITANYA DASA

KUALA LUMPUR - We all have our birthdays and we celebrate this in remembrance of the day we were born in this material world. However, this is completely different when we try to understand Janmastami in relation to the Supreme Absolute Truth. We can’t say that the Supreme has a birthday because it is His nature to be eternal and unborn.
Janmastami is a special day where we contemplate on the nature of the Supreme by asking ourselves what does the unborn, unlimited and eternal do when He reveals Himself to infinitesimal souls like us in this material world. The Vedic literature guides us to understand that Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, descends to this world along with His associates to perform pastimes to ultimately teach us the principles of devotion.
Janmastami is the Appearance Day of Lord Sri Krishna and all sincere devotees would revere this day in gratitude to the Supreme Lord for His causeless mercy and for revealing our true relationship with Him.
With same reverence and gratitude, the Janmastami celebration at ISKCON Malaysia Headquarters,
Sri Jagannatha Mandir Kuala Lumpur (SJMKL), begun very vibrantly with the Mangala Arati followed by the Maha yajna, in front of many devotees who have been eagerly waiting for this special occasion throughout the year. By the time deity greetings were performed, devotees have totally swamped the whole temple hall and the big foyer areas outside. As the curtains were opened, the Lordships dressed in blue gave darshan. This was followed by a pre-recorded lecture of Srimad Bhagavatam by Srila Prabhupada. Later that evening, there was Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda procession from temple hall to Abisheka Mandapa.
Abhisheka Mandapa was opulently decorated and it was turned into Nanda Maharaja’s palace. Different varieties of auspicious items was offered to the Lordships. This was followed by an abhishekam where the Lordships were bathed with many auspicious items. The mercy of our sweet Lord gave everyone an opportunity to perform the abhishekam.
ISKCON Malaysia President, HH Bhakti Vrajendranandana Swami Maharaja graced the festival. YB Datuk Seri Dr Subramaniam Sathasivam, Health Minister of Malaysia and YB Senator Dato' Dr Loga Bala Mohan Jaganathan @ HG Loka Bandhu Gauranga Prabhu, Deputy Minister of Federal Territories Malaysia, were the chief guests for the festival.
Bhagavad Gitas were distributed to 64 university students on this auspicious day. Booths were set up to sell and share information on books, preaching, food for life, farm project,  Gokul Garden, patron etc. There was also special prayers for the passengers of MH17 which crashed recently.
Another attraction at the event was the “Mantra Walk” where devotees and guests were given the opportunity to chant and step on the 108 steps which was set up around a beautiful fountain and Tulasi plants. Those who completed their chanting were given chanting beads at discounted rate. The farm booth attracted much attention too where fresh products from farm were sold at reasonable rates. Same goes to the Gokul Garden booth as well where many games, dances and dramas were organized for the kids, and we must say the children had a great time participating in these specially arranged activities. The cultural programme included nice bhajans and dance drama performed by SJMKL youth.
The overwhelming crowd continued to move in and out of the temple throughout the occasion, forming long queues to make offerings and to take blessings from the deities. This continued even until midnight and at approximately 11.15 pm, the deities were brought back to the temple. The altar was then closed for the Maha Bhoga offering which was conducted by the Gurukulis of Mayapur. At precisely midnight, the curtains were opened and Maha Arati was held. Kripa Sindhu Krishna Prabhu led a vibrating kirtan which got everyone into the ecstatic mood, dancing to the tunes of the kirtan while being indifferent to the hunger of fasting the whole day.
Such was how the atmosphere and mood of devotees were when the fabulous Janmastami celebration at Sri Jaganatha Mandir Kuala Lumpur moved slowly to an end. The event finally closed with breaking of fast and all devotees were served with Ekadasi Prasadam. SJMKL’s Janmastami celebration was truly successful yet another year this round and all of this would not have been feasible without the support of devotees and the mercy of the Lord Himself. May all be blessed and enjoy pure devotion with His mercy. Sri Krishna Janmastami Ki, Jai!

Produces The Visible Form
→ Japa Group

"The relationship between sound and form is particularly relevant to chanting japa. Just as material sound vibrations produce visible forms, similarly, the transcendental vibration of Krishna’s name produces the visible form of Krishna in the heart of a devotee. "

Bye, Bye, Blackbird!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 04 October 2013, Melbourne, Australia, Srimad Bhagavatam 2.2.9)

KKS_radhadesh_2014We must  make arrangements to strengthen our spiritual life. It is not possible just by decision, but by cultivation. Because we are weighed down with our previous sinful activities, we carry the weight of so many previous sinful activities and it is still in our consciousness therefore, when we see something material, we can become attracted.

In France, one boy approached Prabhupada and said, “I am trying to be a devotee! I am trying to chant! I am trying everything but these thoughts of my previous sinful activities keep coming back and it is really disturbing! Why, when I am sincerely trying to be a devotee?”

Prabhupada said, “These memories of your previous sinful activities keep coming back to remind you that you should never do these things again!”

That was a good answer. We should say goodbye to some things…

New Vrindaban’s 44th Janmastami Festival- A Mood of Teamwork
→ New Vrindaban Brijabasi Spirit

Team Work – Janmastami 2014

by Lilasuka dasi

The days leading up to a Janmastami festival are often exciting and energy-charged. This year, some specific pre-Janmastami preparations held a special fascination for many.

Doing service together in co-operation with other devotees and friends towards a common goal is truly the key to surcharging both the atmosphere and our own souls with spiritual bliss. That was the scene on the days before Janmastami 2014. As people worked together, the air was surcharged with inspiration and creativity for the Lord.

Krishna Janmastami New Vrindaban 2014 Goshalla

Some cows at the Goshalla listening to Krsna Book on Janmastami afternoon.

Several days before Janmastami, Vijaya Radha dasi personally approached every devotee woman who lived within a four mile radius of the temple, asking them, “Prabhu, please come to the prasadam room on Saturday morning at 9:30 AM. We’re going to make decorations out of greens and flowers so that Radha Vrindaban Chandra’s altar looks like Vrindavan forest for Janmastami! We can do it! But we need your help.”

And they did it! Picture a scene in the beautiful gopi, Vrindadevi’s grove in the original Vrindavan forest. She dreams of preparing a gorgeous seat for her dearest Lords, Radha and Krsna, in the middle of the woods where they can feel very comfortable speaking and eating and joking and dancing in Each Other’s company. Vrindadevi and her friends gather all sorts of forest greens and wild flowers, and spend the day laughing and making colorful flower arrangements for the pleasure of Their Lordships. Following this mood, the younger and older women of New Vrindaban came together, along with many Janmastami visitors and guests?man and woman alike?using the best flowers and greens that Kali Yuga could provide. Collectively, they created beautiful flower arrangements and long, festive garlands to decorate the altars of the Lord for Janmastami. Surely, Krsna and Srila Prabhupada were especially pleased by this co-operative endeavor.

Matajis team together to create flower arrangements for Radha Vrindaban Chandra.

One long-time resident of New Vrindaban commented, “This is so uniting. We used to get together like this, years ago, for festivals, where many devotees used to join to work on a single project. I feel a real sense of community.”

Another devotee declared, “All of us working together?I don’t mind waking up early for this!”

A couple from Virginia visiting New Vrindaban for their first time exclaimed, “This is fantastic. We’ve found our peace.”

All weekend long, there were engaging activities and teamwork in so many areas. The kitchen devotees worked very hard, culminating in serving out 300 plates of vegetarian prasad on Saturday night, and another 500 plates for lunch on Sunday. There was a fire yajna, cow puja, a swan boat festival, Bharata Natyam dance, a drama towards midnight Sunday, and even some Hare Krsna rap singing! The Lodge was super busy with many satisfied visitors; tours at the Palace went on all weekend, and the restaurant was open through everything, serving extra hungry visitors.

One of the highlights of the weekend was Sunday morning, Janmastami day, as everyone was getting ready to greet the Deities in Their new Janmastami outfit. The excitement was building. The crowd of residents and visitors were gathered before the altar, eager to see Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Vrindaban Chandra. As the kirtan built up, and the altar curtains finally opened, everyone had joyful darshan of the Deities in Their charming New Vrindavan forest scene, amidst the shouting of “Jaya Sri Sri Radha Vrindaban Chandra ki jaya!!”
