More than 500 police officers patrol Vrindavan streets during swing festival

More than 500 police officers were on crowd control, traffic security and peacekeeping duty in Vrindavan from Tuesday on July 30. Along with the uniformed police, plainclothesmen and K9 squads were also patrolling the crowded city streets. Nevertheless, many people expressed regrets that preparations to make the streets clean to welcome so many outside guests to the holy town were inadequate and the thoroughfares in many places, especially on the Mathura Road, are in need of reparations. 4th Annual Gita Camp Held at Houston Hare Krishna Temple
→ Dandavats.com

In this day and age, our lives are busy, and we are all running around with the urgency to fulfill various needs. If we have any more time left in between, we are bombarded with electronic stimulation in different ways. The sad part of this life style is that our children follow what they see around, and become attached to those habits. Our children need to be engaged in our ever blissful spiritual culture and values. The only way, they can experience this bliss, is by engaging in pure spiritual connection with the process of Bhakti Yoga. Engaging their intelligence, mind, and senses in the devotional service to the Lord. This was the essence of the just concluded successful Children’s 4th Annual Gita Camp, held at Houston Hare Krishna Temple from July 7 – 13. Read more ›

Chanting is possibly the most visible activity of a bonafide Vaishnava. Repeating the Mahamantra quietly, individually, on a rosary of one hundred eight beads made of Tulasi wood is known as japa. It was the express instruction of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself that a fixed number of "rounds" (recitation of a complete rosary) of chanting of the Names of the Lord be performed daily, usually sixteen, although many dedicated devotees chant much more. The great saint Haridas Thakur, a contemporary and devotee of Lord Chaitanya, was renowned as Namacarya ("the Divine Master of chanting the Holy Name") due to his chanting of not less than 300,000 Names of the Lord daily. He’s Grown Cocoa For Years, But Never Seen Chocolate
→ ISKCON News

This video is a strong reminder of how a global economy doesn’t mean everyone gets to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Cocoa farmers on the Ivory Coast earn their living growing the beans. It’s hard work and they earn very little money for their harvest. Many of them do not even know what the cocoa beans are used for. So when this journalist gives them chocolate for the first time, it’s a revelation.

Srila Prabhupada Emphasizes the Value and Practicality of Engaging Oxen in New Vrindaban – January 1974.

From a series of letters written by Srila Prabhupada outlining his vision for New Vrindaban.

Thanks to Vanipedia for the source material.

—————————————————————————–

7th January, 1974

Dear Kirtanananda Maharaja,

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated December 30, 1973.

I was very pleased to hear your report of our cow protection program, and I had part of your letter read aloud to a group of devotees how you have one cow who will be giving 70-80 pounds a day. The cow is so wonderful and valuable in society. But you should also use the bulls by engaging them in tilling the ground. People may call this the primitive way but it is very practical for engaging the bulls–have them work in cart loading, transporting, etc.

Regarding Srutakirti, I proposed to him that he go to New Vrindaban but he said he did not like farm work and so he wants to go to Caracas and perform deity worship in the temple. So I have already asked him but I will say again, how you require him at New Vrindaban and how he should work nicely there with the cows, under your guidance.

You inquire whether you can make cheese? Why cheese? Make sufficient ghee. If you can send ghee to India that would be nice service as there is scarcely any ghee there. Cheese is not good. We should produce ghee so all our centers can have enough ghee.

Hope this meets you in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,

A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

Many of the devotees of Radha Rasesvara temple in Bali are disciples of Srila Gaura Govinda Swami and Srila Bhakti Svarupa Damodara Swami. These two great devotees have since left this world and are with the Supreme Lord.

Some years ago, in the mood of separation, they made nice memorials for their gurus at the back of the temple where their murtis are worshiped. Now other gurus have come to continue to initiate and there are new disciples joining the community.

Topmost Stage Of God Realization
→ Japa Group

"I like to remember Srila Prabhupada’s emphasis on the importance of chanting Hare Krishna mantra. When Srila Prabhupada teaches that the topmost stage of God realization can be attained simply by chanting the holy names, we are pleased and convinced. Even though I can’t take up the chanting properly, still it is a solace and inspiration to hear Prabhupada tell us about it."

Report by Antardvip das and Bhaktin Klara

After teaching at that Kirtan Course in Radhadesh, Maharaj arrived in Prague, Czech Republic late on Saturday night (19 July).

After taking rest in the Luzce temple, Maharaj left for the Prague city center where at Wenceslas Square, the 7th annual Ratha Yatra was just ready to start. Upon getting there, without further ado, Maharaj started the festival by offering the coconut and then led a rousing kirtan in the procession. Other honored quests at this immensely auspicious event were Bhakti Nityananda Swami and the Mayapuris who concluded the harinam with their energizing bengali melodies and mrdanga playing. What followed was a stage show with many nice performances, like: sitar recitals, bhajans, bharat-natyam dances and a Mayapuris show. In between, Maharaj gave a charming lecture about the meaning of the Ratha Yatra festival. The evening culminated with a rocking kirtan and Maharaj, supported by the Mayapuris, made many of the guests dance.

After such exhausting program on Sunday, the next day at the temple was dedicated to resting. Still, in the evening, Maharaj gave a Bhagavad-gita lecture. He raised a question of what will we do to sustain our Krsna consciousness and what will we do to preserve our movement as a whole?

On Tuesday morning, Maharaj gave the Srimad Bhagavatam lecture and in the afternoon he moved to Prague’s relatively new preaching center, the Harinam Mandir, where he stayed until Friday. Local devotees were happy because although Maharaj had already lectured there a few times, until now, he never stayed for several days.

Before Maharaj gave the morning lecture on Wednesday, he agreed that some devotees could be present at his puja for Giriraja, even with a video camera! During the puja, he explained various details about the worship of a Govardhan sila. After the lunch, Maharaj took a short walk with several disciples along the river and in the evening, by his presence, he favoured one of Prague’s Govindas restaurants where, taking us to Vrindavan, he gave a public lecture preceded by tumultuous kirtan.

Thursday started in the Harinam Mandir again with a Srimad Bhagavatam lecture. In the evening, there was public program with amazing kirtan and lecture from Caitanya Caritamrita on the topic of Ratha Yatra.

On Friday, Maharaj left for the airport. Czech devotees are really blessed because after attending Kirtan Mela in Germany, Maharaj will shortly come back on Balarama Purnima for the opening of the new temple in Nove Sady. Maharaj will also celebrate Janmastami in Czech, on the farm. Everyone is invited for these wonderful events!

About His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj

His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj appeared on this planet on the most auspicious day of Annada Ekadashi, on August 14, 1944, in New Delhi, India.  After visiting the ISKCON temple in Montreal, Canada in September of 1967, Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj yearned to meet a Vaishnava guru and got the opportunity to meet Srila Prabhupada there in 1968. The combination of his family background and his search for spiritual life led him to Srila Prabhupada and he accepted initiation from him in early 1969. Gopal Krishna Goswami played a leading role in inspiring and completing several large ISKCON temples, such as the Glory of India temple in New Delhi in 1998 (inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee) and the Radha Bankebihari temple in Nairobi. Currently he is the GBC(Governing Body Commission) of over thirty temples around the world and serves as an initiating spiritual master, with disciples in Russia, America, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Kadamba Kanana Swami: In my travels, I visited a devotee’s house and he had quite an amazing altar. On his altar, he had deities of Radha Krsna which were from Vrindavan and 250 years old. In those days, there were a lot of details in the deities – they were very beautiful, they were very ecstatic. They were like in some sort of dancing pose but that was not everything. This devotee he had gone to India, and he had done some service in some of the places where Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu had performed his pastimes and some families in India, they still have some things that were used by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu directly. Iskcon Hare Krishna Temple Vrindavan and Krishna Prasadam

Later we would go for dinner in the Krishna restaurant. I was amazed to see the simple variety of food both continental and indian food offered on their menu. The food is simple, down-to-earth, tastes great and thoroughly enjoyable. They also serve hot milk with honey. I have never tasted such a kind of milk. It was sweet even without the honey and was simply out of the world. My personal feeling is that they must be lovingly and compassionately taking care of the cows in their gaushalas. The cows must be feeling loved, hence the milk it gives had the quality of love in it. Even the milk sweet prasadam they serve in the temple, is really good. Whatever food they offer or serve in their restaurants, is first offered to Lord Krishna and then served to the people. They also prepare the food with a lot of devotion and love for Lord Krishna. Hence the food is infused with love energy. Read more ›
