Make A Determination
→ Japa Group
Before you start Japa you can make a determination to hear properly, to avoid doing other things or to place yourself in a non-distractive environment.
During Japa you can also re-affirm the determination by saying it to yourself....for example "Just hear".
Try this before you start chanting and have in your mind what you want to improve and how to improve that and then make your determination.

Dubai, UAE
Moving with Time
Downtime! Much sitting in the aircraft. Emirates, world
class airline has conditions or facilities conducive
enough for japa meditation, reading and writing, all that
I relish doing.
There's time to talk to the passenger sitting next to
you, however, sometimes you respect the fact that its also
their downtime, or rather up-time. The flight from
Toronto to Dubai is at an unimaginable height, need I
detail the figure? Its just very high and very cold,
outside.
It flashes to mind that we could be victims of a
mysterious disapperance, going of the radar screen, as in
the case of the recent Malayasian airline that appered to
vanish in thin air. Always a good reason to chant divine
mantra's with more intrepidity.
Time presses on with window shutters closed which makes
it confusing to decifer the hour. But thats ok. In the air
with such incredible speed (exact figures unknown to me)
you really enter a timeless zone, keeping an eye on
boarding time is significant but once off from departure,
it really doesn't matter much. In a way its off-time.
A lay-over in Dubai with a six hour span and a hotel
voucher in hand permitted horizontal space to actually
sleep which is practically impossible in the plane.
Arabian Park Hotel was the space that was destined. No
need for its lounge, its drinks or non-veg food. I'm a
monastic that can keep cheap thrills at bay.
And also, until the new day, new dawn or dusk we do not
tarry but move forward with ever changing time.
May the source be with you!

A day of celebration
→ KKSBlog
Although the official Vyasa Puja festival of Kadamba Kanana Swami will take place on 25 April 2014 in Radhadesh, the 12th of April is still a special day as it is his appearance day according to the solar calendar. Maharaj will travel to Durban today and has been requested by his disciples to attend a house program where they will honour him.
At the time of this occasion, devotees glorify Maharaj. Some write to him, others read their offerings of appreciation to him but a young bhakta in Mayapur got creative and decided to sing his offering to Maharaj. Prahlad and his mother, Premalata dd (KKS) are from Prague, Czech Republic but relocated to Mayapur in 2011 so Prahlad could attend the gurukul and Maharaj has been their pillar of support throughout. You may listen to this meaningful offering by hitting the ‘play’ button of the media player below.
Musical Offering by Bhakta Prahlad_Mayapur
We would like to extend our best wishes to HH Kadamba Kanana Swami as well as our gratitude for being a source of inspiration and wisdom. Here are some memories of appearance day celebrations from past years.

Animals can kill without incurring Sin, Humans cannot
→ The Spiritual Scientist
Human beings are not meant to quarrel like cats and dogs. They must be intelligent enough to realize the importance and aim of human life. The Vedic literature is meant for humanity and not for cats and dogs. Cats and dogs can kill other animals for food without incurring sin, but if a man kills an animal for the satisfaction of his uncontrolled taste buds, he is responsible for breaking the laws of nature. Consequently he must be punished.

Unconscious Competence
→ Tattva - See inside out
Lucky for us, the Bhagavad-gita is a book of supreme optimism. Even when faced with the disappointment of failure, there is still reason to take heart and smile. How so? At the lowest stage of ‘unconscious incompetence’, one's deficient character, destructive desires and wayward habits aren’t even a cause of concern. Only when one progresses to the stage of ‘conscious incompetence’, however, do they become aware of their defects and consciously feel the need to improve. That’s quite a jump indeed. Even if one’s behaviour hasn’t changed, the change of values is itself a great sign of progress.
Yet that should eventually mature into a change of character. From the stage of ‘conscious incompetence’, one next embraces the platform of ‘conscious competence’. Here, one makes a concerted effort to act in the proper way; often mechanically and forcibly, one trains themselves in a way of living that mirrors their aspiration. Even though it may feel mechanical and artificial, one is learning to be natural. Finally, in deep spiritual maturity, the proper behaviour and attitude becomes manifest from within, and one lives their ideals spontaneously, effortlessly and joyously. This perfected stage is known as ‘unconscious competence’.
