The Glories of Chandra Sarovara - Kartik Parikrama 2018 (12 min video)
Ten days into the auspicious month of Kartika we visited Chandra Sarovar, one of the many lakes surrounding Govardhana Hill. It is situated on the long, outer parikrama-marg of Govardhana Hill that extends for over 40 kilometers. It was the pilgrimage route most often taken by Srila Sanatana Goswami 500 years ago. There are many pastimes that take place at Chandra Sarovar, including Krsna’s springtime Rasa Lila dance with the gopis. It was there that the gopis sang their famous Gopi Gita, expressing their deep feelings of separation from the Lord. At Chandra Sarovar one can also take darshan of the samadhi of the famous Vaisnava saint, Sur das.
Thank you for the gift of the Hare Krishna mantra!
Adikarta Das: I posted this picture before but there’s an update. He just wrote me a letter he says. “Hare Krishna brother. My name is Stephen and I met you last week at a music festival and you gave me some books and words of wisdom. Thank you for the gift of the Hare Krishna mantra. It has brought me great peace and balance. I wish to follow your advice of living at a temple to learn more, and wish to be guided to wherever you feel is best for me. HARE KRISHNA.”

***The Following is an excerpt from my book Prema Mala, a piece that I find myself returning to often as I try to stay inspired during this wondrous month of Kartik, as I continue my exploration ever closer to my Beloved Govinda through the chanting of His name. I pray that some of you will also find something of comfort and encouragement within these words.***

I was able to attend the Govardhana Puja celebration at New Govardhana. Giri Govardhana from the altar was taken on a bullock cart and chanting His glories everyone followed Him down the hill to the lake area.
Standing on top of a replica Govardhana hill, a murti of Lord Giridhari, with His arm raised in the air, signified the lila of Lord Krsna lifting Govardhana hill to save the residents of Vrndavan from the wrath of Lord Indra.
We were blessed to have HH Hridayananda Maharaja as the guest speaker who told about the lila and position of the Lord.

Krsna transferred from the prison in Mathura to Gokul overnight. His childhood pastimes there are the delight of every Vrajavasi. We spent a wonderful day in Gokul singing Krsna’s praises, observing the delightful cows in the pastures and tasting delicious milk-sweets offered to the Lord.
Dear disciples, friends and well-wishers: a new class entitled, “The Glories of Chandra-Sarovara” is available now on:
In the class we discuss the many pastimes of Radha and Krsna that take place at the lake called Chandra-Sarovara near Govardhan Hill, as well as the glories of the great devotee – Sur das – who gave us a number of beautiful poems and songs about the Divine Couple. Pure nectar!

Casper the llama, a humble servant of Lord Chaitanya’s movement left his body for a higher birth.
Caru: We lost Casper last night. He’d suffered from a stomach ailment for about two weeks: cholic, or perhaps he ate oleander (poisonous to llamas) on his last pack trip. Vaibhavi worked hard to save him, but he went just after sunset. Casper served the temple for about 16 years, giving visitors pleasure, entertaining children, and going on dozens of pack trips for hundreds of miles. His pain is finished and we wish him God Speed.
Vaibhavi: The dedication & stoicism of llamas is such an example. Casper never faltered. May we all learn to serve thus!

Srila Prabhupada: It is my wish that devotees of Lord Caitanya all over the world enjoy this translation, and I am glad to express my gratitude to the learned men in the Western countries who are so pleased with my work that they are ordering in advance all my books that will be published in the future. On this occasion, therefore, I request my disciples who are determined to help me in this work to continue their cooperation fully, so that philosophers, scholars, religionists, and people in general all over the world will benefit by reading our transcendental literatures, such as Srimad-Bhagavatam and Sri Caitanya-caritamrta.
