Destruction & Liberation — Nirodha & Mukti
→ The Enquirer
Destruction occurs when living beings and their energies fall into sleep along with him. [2.10.6]
Here, “living beings” refers to the souls within the cosmos. Their “energies” are all their ambitions and self-conceptions. “Along with him” means along with Hari, Viṣṇu. When Hari falls asleep, all living beings also fall asleep. If they still cling to their ambitions and self-conceptions, this fall into sleep is known as “destruction.”
Hari “falling asleep” means that he closes his eyes towards the external world. The living being “falling asleep” means that he becomes completely inactive as a result.
Liberation occurs when a living being lets go of all external self-images and perfectly embraces its own true form. [2.10.6]
“All external self-images” refers to the ambitions and self-concepts that a living being accepts out of ignorance and foolishness. A living being who lets go of these and embraces his own true form does not experience the destruction as such, instead he gains liberation.

Everything for Krishna, March 22, Houston, Texas
Giriraj Swami
Rtadhvaja Swami and Giriraj Swami spoke at a home program.
“Srila Prabhupada’s motto was, ‘Everything for Krishna and nothing for me.’ So, that is perfection and we should work towards that. If within our house we have the motto everything for Krishna and nothing for me (meaning nothing independent of Krishna), and in this body if we dedicate everything for Krishna and nothing for me, at the time of death we will think of Krishna and go to Krishna and get a spiritual body that is suitable for serving Krishna.”

Lord Rama and Lord Chaitanya
→ Karnamrita's blog
[Reposted from 3-24-2010] Today in the USA we are observing Ram Navami, or Lord Rama's holy appearance day anniversary. Although Lord Chaitanya is the combined form or Radha and Krishna, coming to give Krishna prema for the fallen souls of Kali-yuga, he also contains all other incarnations of God within him, including Lord Rama. Therefore, Lord Chaitanya is Universal. Anyone desiring to make spiritual advancement and increase their devotion toward any real incarnation of God can obtain that goal by taking shelter of him—he is so merciful and accessible.
Devotees of Shri Rama can see Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as the manifestation of Lord Rama for this age. Shri Chaitanya showed a six armed form to his devotees to demonstrate that he was also Lord Krishna and Lord Rama. At least two principles devotees of Shri Chaitanya were also devotees of Lord Rama. One of them is none other than Hanumanji, who in Chaitanya lila, is the Kaviraja (Ayur-vedic doctor) and great devotee, Murari Gupta. It is said that Murari Gupta cured people’s material and spiritual diseases. He was also one of Lord Chaitanya’s principle biographers. The stanch devotion to Lord Rama of these two devotees was tested in a similar way by Lord Chaitanya, and then he greatly praised their Rama Bhakti or devotion to Shri Rama.

The four regulative principles, as Srila Prabhupada explained, is where human life begins. Anyone who does not follow the four regulative principles is an animal… sorry to say it! I mean, there may be some in the room, such animals may be here (crowd laughter), but it is possible to come to the human form of life very quickly by accepting the four regulative principles because as long as we are not, we are simply on the animal platform.
The four regulative principles are nothing spiritually exalted; it is just where human life begins. It is not even an expression of bhakti – no meat, fish or eggs, no intoxication, no gambling and no illicit sex does not mean that we have reached the platform of devotional service yet. It just means that we have stopped being an animal, that’s all! It just means we have just become human but we have not done anything for Krsna yet! Then from the human platform, we have to begin to do some service, roll up our sleeves and let us get into it… let us do something now!

ISKCON Leicester welcomes cortege of King Richard III.
ISKCON Leicester welcomes King Richard III back to the City of Leicester The final journey of the last Plantaganet King Richard III took place on Sunday 22nd March. The historic procession, which travelled throughout the County of Leicestershire came to a climax in the City Centre, just a few metres from ISKCON Leicester. The procession coincided with the Centre’s Sunday program so devotees took the opportunity to welcome many new guests who had travelled into the City from all over the world. They chanted throughout the event, and also read from the Srimad Bhagavatam passages about Kings in the Vedic tradition. “ISKCON Leicester is fortunate to be in a City Centre location. And people who have come into the City to see the reinternment procession to are attracted to the Kirtan and literally walk in off the street,” says Temple President Pradyumna Das. ISKCON Leicester

Should devotees read news?

From Gourav Shaw P:
What does this quote mean?
"One should avoid ordinary topics of novels and fiction, but there is no injunction that one should avoid hearing ordinary news." (Srila Prabhupada, Teachings of Lord Chaitanya, Chp 12)
Again it is mentioned "that one should avoid hearing ordinary news."
Many devotees also mentioned that there is no need of listening regular news, reading newspaper.....But we being student should know news to grow our GK which is necessity of any competitive examination now-a-days........Please elaborate the topic....

Travel Journal#11.4: Ocala Rainbow & More Florida Adventures
→ Travel Adventures of a Krishna Monk
By Krishna-kripa das
(February 2015, part two)
(Sent from Gainesville, Florida, on March 22, 2015)
Devotees had saved up 27 buckets of Krishna food for me to distribute at the Ocala Regional Rainbow Gathering, although I asked them to save just 8 buckets. Devotees from Alachua County have been attending this event for many years. I originally had a party of four devotees, and I decided 16 buckets was all we could handle. Fortunately Vaishnava Prabhu of New Vrindaban, who had cooked much of the prasadam, and Tessa, who loves to distribute prasadam, decided to also come at the last minute, so we had six devotees altogether, the others being Dorian, Autumn, and Chelsea, who drove her car.
We would stop as we met people, and some of us would serve them and the rest of us would sing.
Another guy said of the prasadam,“Truly excellent.” Another said, “It is amongst the best food I've had since coming to these woods.” The people were so grateful we came.
At the end, we chanted and distributed prasadam near the path to the trading circle and one of the prominent kitchens.

Hare Krishna! Is Religion the Opium of the Masses?
Though others before Karl Marx had promoted the idea, he made it famous: “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.” What does the religion-as-opium argument imply? Atheists allege that just as opium intoxicates people with illusory feelings of well-being without offering any real relief, so does religion. Only when people shed the false hopes offered by religion will they strive for actual well-being.

Jayapataka Swami and Others to Present at Festival of Inspiration’s 15th Anniversary in New Vrindaban
→ New Vrindaban Brijabasi Spirit
by Madhava Smullen
Since its launch in 2000, Festival of Inspiration has been a unique standout of the festival season. It has just the right mix of enlightening presentations by ISKCON’s best speakers; top-quality entertainment from dramas to stand-up comedy; rip-roaring kirtans; and mouth-watering prasad.
This year, 600 to 700 devotees from all over the USA, Canada and beyond are expected to flood into the emerald hills of New Vrindaban, West Virginia from Thursday May 7th to Sunday the 10th for FOI’s unmissable 15th Anniversary event.
World-renowned kirtan singers Agnideva Das and Karnamrita Dasi will kick off proceedings on Thursday with an evening of ecstatic kirtan and bhajans from 6 to 10pm.
On Friday and Saturday, after a special themed Bhagavatam class by a VIP guest, the presentations will begin. With three on offer at once, devotees will have the chance to pick their favorite from 18 different seminars over the weekend.
Jayapataka Swami, making a rare appearance outside of India and his very first at Festival of Inspiration, is expected to draw quite the crowd for his presentation. He’ll also give one of the weekend’s special extended Bhagavatam classes.
Also presenting for the first time will be Vrindavana pilgrimage guide Deena Bandhu Das, who is expected to take audiences for a dive into Lord Krishna’s nectarean pastimes with his unrivaled storytelling skills.
Other speakers will include walking monk Bhaktimarga Swami; Srila Prabhupada’s personal servant Srutakirti Das; New Vrindaban’s own simple living expert Varshana Swami; and academic scholars Ravindra Svarupa and Radhika Ramana.
Also appearing will be Prabhupada’s early disciple Malati Dasi; respected educators Laxmimoni Dasi and Urmila Dasi; ISKCON Communications Director Anuttama Das, BBT editor Dravida Das; and inspirational university preacher Kalakantha Das.
Topics are expected to range from practical life skills such as public speaking to in-depth looks at the lives of Vaishnava saints, to Srutakirti’s wonderful stories of his time with Srila Prabhupada.
Attendees will also have the option to take part in two special 15th Anniversary treats offered simultaneously alongside the seminars. They’ll be able to join a host of renowned kirtaniyas for bhajans in the covered “yajnashala” on the temple grounds. And they’ll get to spend quality time with visiting Swamis and senior devotees in the question and answer tent.
Parents will be free to attend all of this, with experienced child-carers running an all-day Kid’s Tent where children will be engaged in a variety of fun Krishna conscious activities.
In the evenings, senior devotees and kirtaniyas will lead “Nama-Yajnas” from 7 to 10pm in the temple, delving deeper and more joyfully into the Holy Name.
Meanwhile Sunday morning will see devotees running to the community hall to save their seats for one of FOI’s most popular offerings – two hours of transcendental entertainment including an epic drama by Bhaktimarga Swami, and a collection of side-splitting comedy sketches by professional New York comedian Yadunath Das.
The festival will then conclude with a delicious classic Sunday Feast.
Of course, prasadam throughout the Festival will be top notch, with breakfast, lunch and dinner served every day, a variety of international menus, and healthy options at every meal.
“The prasadam at Festival of Inspiration is legendary,” says organizer Vrindavana Das. “Nothing can compare. We spend most of our budget on prasadam.”
Accommodation is also first class, with the recently renovated Palace Lodge offering fully-furnished onsite motel quality rooms with either double queen or king beds. Guests are advised to register early as onsite accommodation is expected to be booked by the end of March. For overflow guests, rooms will be booked at local hotels within a 15 to 30-minute driving distance.
“Festival of Inspiration is always a consistently enlivening experience,” comments Kalakantha Das, who has brought students from Gainesville’s Krishna House to FOI for years. “It’s uniquely educational in nature — you have a chance to hear from very experienced and educated devotees in interesting fields. Attendees get a good sense of the veracity of Krishna consciousness and the variety of ways that it can be practiced and experienced.”
“It’s a rare opportunity for devotees to come together for the purpose of association,” adds book distributor Vaisesika Das, who attended last year. “And the varied choice of presentations lets everyone fill up their devotional plates and eat to their full satisfaction!”

Implicit faith

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 19 January 2015, Bhaktivedanta Manor, United Kingdom, Brahmacari Class)
There is a story in the Caitanya Bhagavat of Gadhadara Das. Gadhadara Das, one day went to the residence of the Chand Kazi. He stood in the courtyard and called out, “Kazi! Kazi, where are you? Kazi, chant! Chant the holy name of Krsna! Chant the holy name, Kazi!”
The Kazi knew Gadhadara very well. They actually had a good relationship, so he was not too perturbed. He came to pacify Gadharara and said, ”Don’t worry, Gadhadara. No need to make so much of noise. I’ll chant Hare Krsna tomorrow.”
Gadadara began to jump up and down. He said, ‘Why tomorrow? You already did it today! You already did it today!”
That was enough for Gadadara to experience great ecstasy, because he had that faith that if this Kazi chants Hare Krsna just once, then everything auspicious will happen.

Dealing With The Mind
→ Japa Group
The passenger is like your mind, and driving the car is like chanting your rounds.
If you keep talking to someone and they are continuously ignoring you, eventually you are just going to be quiet.
That's the best way to deal with the mind: just ignore it and keep your attention on “the road”, it will eventually shut up.
People Problems
→ Tattva - See inside out
"When faults in others misguide and delude you - have patience, introspect, find faults in yourself. Know that others cannot harm you unless you harm yourself."
Patience - the first moments of a conflict situation are crucial. Be tolerant and patient. The art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but sometimes to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment. When negative emotions hijack our mental state, chances are we’ll act and speak irrationally. One who is patient in a moment of anger, saves themselves days of sorrow.
Introspect – take some time to consider the situation. Beyond the perceived idiocy of actions and words, try to understand what is driving someone to do what they do. What is the hidden background? If we can identify that, we hold the key to progress. In human dealings the golden rule is this: seek first to understand, then to be understood. We could also consider how important the conflict really is – most Issues can easily be dropped or ignored, but often our emotional engrossment keeps us doggedly fighting till the last breath.
Find faults in yourself – every experience we encounter is ultimately an opportunity for self-growth. Provoking situations act as a mirror to better understand our weaknesses and faults. When we can identify and accept our own imperfections, we’re better placed to considerately deal with others. Else, we may fall into the trap of being very good judges for other people’s mistakes, and expert lawyers for our own.
