Bird to Human

A young nursing student, Kuvera by name, and I, took to a trail that leads you to the Fraser River. It was dark at 5:30 AM but somehow Kuvera spotted the feather crane perched on a tree's branch and overlooking the creek. Instantaneously, he reminded me of a yogi in deep meditation, although more probably he was in slumber. At the sound of our footsteps and hushed words of his acknowledgement, he turned his neck and kept that eye on us revealing his proud beak.

We felt that the area is his turf and from that higher elevation he could be most observant over the space, including any meal that might make its way, in swimming format, from down below. He was inspirational to see there in solitary serenity; an admirable state of focus.

I made a visit to see a god-sister, Padyavali, who is spending her days in a seniors' home. Three of us guys, Kripanidhi, Manu, and I, spent some time with her and she really came across in the spunkiest and most jovial mood. We shared in a boisterous time in our corner of the lunch room. I believe she really needed the attention. After all, we may be spiritual, but there is also a call to be human. There's time to be a crane, but not all day long.

Time was also spent in visiting members of the community who will remain as such when given attention. It is an obligation, a privilege, and an honor.

The last installment of visitations was held at the weekly 'Holy Cow Kirtan' session in Vancouver, where we engaged people in kirtan and dance. I'm blessed to be part of a movement that offers a balance of introspection and joy.

Sunday in Burnaby

I had done a quota of minimal kilometres but now it was time to sit down. It was 6:10pm during the Sunday Open House at the Burnabytemple, and such is the customary time for a delivery of words from “The Gita”. The crowds are not very big at this time and, like most temples that I’ve seen in Canada, the US, and practically all over the world, the volume of people goes on the rise closer to feast time.

In any event I sat down at the special asana referred to as the vyasasan, designated for the speaker. I sang the standard song of devotion “Jaya Radha Madhava”. Then I opened to the page in Bhagavad Gita, 7:13, and began to read the powerful words from the purport authored by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

“The whole world is enchanted by the three modes of material nature... Every living entity under the influence of material nature has a particular type of body and a particular type of psychological and biological activities accordingly... Although life is temporary and we do not know what we are going to be in the next life, by the spell of this illusory energy we consider ourselves in terms of this bodily conception of life, and we thus think that we are American, Indian, Russian, or brahmana, Hindu, Muslim, etc.”

On the basis of this message we were able to convey something that allowed people to listen, to process, and then it’s up to them- to act or not act- as all souls have their free will.

May the Source be with you!

Cast Iron Factory Located in Kolkata
- TOVP.org

As research continues, we always try to find the best materials for the TOVP construction work. Sometimes they come from Europe, South America and other faraway places. But other times we find them locally, right here in West Bengal.

Sadbhuja prabhu recently visited an iron factory in Kolkata. The factory has been operating for over 100 years and they have more than 600 workers! They also export to many other countries. In the photos we can see samples of cast iron work that the factory has produced.

[See image gallery at tovp.org]

Casting iron is a very versatile technique, as one can create any design at any size and thickness. The possibilities are truly endless.

[See image gallery at tovp.org]

The peacock design in the photo is the first sample of cast iron that will be used for the TOVP, specifically on the Prabhupada Bridge.

[See image gallery at tovp.org]

In general, the process of producing cast iron pieces is part of the finishing work of the TOVP.

The Perfection of Reading the Bhagavad-gita

Hare Krishna

“If you simply remember how Krishna is teaching Arjuna and Arjuna is hearing—if you simply remember the picture—that is sufficient. Even if you think that you cannot read. Because after all, we have to become Krishna conscious. We don’t have to become a learned man to argue with another learned man. If it is possible, we can do that. But it does not make any difference if I cannot argue with others or if I cannot teach very nicely Bhagavad-gita to others. Simply if I remember this picture, that is perfection. Because we have to become Krishna conscious. We have to simply think of Krishna. You think in any way. That is your perfection. Smartavyah satatam visnuh [Padma Purana]. This is the injunction. You have to think of Visnu always. This is samadhi; this is meditation; this is yoga siddhi, perfection of yoga.

The Vedic Planetarium in Mayapur, West Bengal, India (presently well under construction as of December 2015), is an attempt to depict the map of the Universe according to the ancient Vedic literature, primarily the Fifth Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam as translated and presented by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Canto 1, chapter 5, verse 11 of Srimad-Bhagavatam predicts that this literature will bring about a revolution in the impious lives of this world’s misdirected civilization
(janatagha-viplavo). To this end, the Mayapur Vedic Planetarium, which is based on the Srimad Bhagavatam’s cosmography, is one of Srila Prabhupada’s main projects to counteract the prevailing materialistic world view of life and the cosmos.

The Srimad-Bhagavatam’s depiction of the universe, however, immediately creates a clash of world-views that most people may prefer to avoid, and that includes many of the followers of the Vedas who either don’t understand, or can’t conceptualize the Srimad-Bhagavatam’s depiction of Earth and its relation to the greater universe. We have all grown up with an image of Earth as a rotating ball in space, and we’re pretty happy with that. But how did we get that image and conception of a globe into our heads? Is the globe-shaped Earth an authentic image, and is the Earth truly a round planet rotating in space around the sun? Will it come to be, that one of the most earth-shattering events in our life is the discovery of the real nature of Earth itself? What will the Mayapur Vedic planetarium reveal? To quote from the Book of Revelations, a Christian book of prophecy:

And I saw a new heaven and a new Earth, for the first heaven and the first Earth were passed away (Rev 21.1)

Will the Mayapur Vedic Planetarium reveal a new looking Earth? Or will it look like the one that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) has been presenting ever since the first photographs of Earth taken in 1969, reputedly taken from outer space as the Apollo spacecraft made its way to the moon? This subject can be of interest to all of us; not only because we certainly ought to know the location and shape of the Earth that we live on, but also because the position and shape of the Earth has wider implications in regard to the world views we will adopt, created by either a materialistic or transcendental perspective. We have on our hands a clash of world-views that is truly mind-blowing. *Sailing to Jambudwipa; The Mayapur Vedic Planetarium and the Flat Earth According to Srimad Bhagavatam* can be found in the link below:

The Perfection of Reading the Bhagavad-gita
Giriraj Swami

Krishna_Speaking_the_Bhagavad-gita_to_ArjunaOne year on Gita Jayanti, the day on which Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna, I heard a talk in which Srila Prabhupada spoke about the perfection of reading the Gita.

“When Lord Chaitanya was traveling in South India, in a big temple, Ranganatha temple, He went to see the Deity, and He saw one brahmana was reading Bhagavad-gita. And people were joking with him, ‘Oh, Mr. Brahmana, how you are reading Bhagavad-gita?’ Because they were neighbors, they knew that this brahmana was illiterate, and he was studying Bhagavad-gita. So they were joking. But the brahmana did not care about them. He was taking the book and in his own way he was reading. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu saw this incident. He came to the brahmana. He asked the brahmana, ‘My dear brahmana, what you are reading?’ The brahmana could understand, ‘This person is not joking with me; he is serious.’ So he explained, ‘My dear sir, I am reading Bhagavad-gita. Unfortunately, I am illiterate. I do not know even the alphabet.’ ‘Why you are reading Bhagavad-gita?’ So he said, ‘My spiritual master knows that I am illiterate, but still, he has asked me to read Bhagavad-gita. What can I do? Therefore I have taken this book. I am simply seeing. I do not know how to read.’ ‘Oh, that’s all right. You cannot read. But I see that you are crying. How you are crying, if you are not reading?’ ‘Yes, I am crying. Of course, there is cause.’ ‘What is that?’ ‘As soon as I take this Bhagavad-gita, I remember Krishna. Krishna is sitting as driver and Arjuna is hearing. I have heard the story. I know something of the instruction but cannot read. So as soon as I take this book, this picture comes before me and I simply think how Krishna is nice that He has become a charioteer of His devotee. He is so great. Still, He has accepted a menial service of His devotee. This gives me so much pleasure that I cry.’ Chaitanya Mahaprabhu embraced him, ‘Your Bhagavad-gita reading is perfect. You have taken the essence.’

“One who has learned to think of Krishna always, he is already on the perfectional stage. Aradhito yadi haris tapasa tatah kim [Narada Pancaratra]. If one has come to this stage, just to understand Krishna to be the great, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and he’s a surrendered soul: ‘Krishna, whatever You like You do. I am surrendered.’ This is aradhana. Then he isn’t required to undergo any austerities or penance. His everything is finished. And naradhito yadi haris tapasa tatah kim. And if he does not come to this stage, his so-called scholarship, learned argument, this or that—all nonsense, finished. Useless. One has to come to this stage. Therefore Lord Chaitanya embraced the brahmana: ‘Yes, your study of Bhagavad-gita is perfect.’ Because one has to come to this stage, thinking of Krishna always.

“So, that is the perfection. Krishna and gopis. They were cowherd girls. Their father, mother, they were only ordinary village [people], keeping cows. That’s all. What was their education? They were not Vedantists. But they learned to love Krishna. That was their qualification. And Chaitanya Mahaprabhu certifies, ramya kacid upasana vraja-vadhu-vargena ya kalpita: ‘Oh, there is no better worship than that which was contemplated by the gopis.’ They did not know what is Krishna, but they loved Krishna. That’s all. They loved Krishna. Because Krishna was God or Krishna was something great? No. Their natural affection was for Krishna. They could not stay even for a moment without seeing Krishna. That was their qualification. This is Krishna consciousness.

“So, one has to come to perfect Krishna consciousness some way or other. That is perfection. We have presented so many formulas. Why? Not that the formulas are important, but the formulas will help me to remember Krishna always. Just like you are going to sell our magazines. So this magazine selling or taking some contribution is not our business. Our business is that we are spreading Krishna consciousness; people are hearing something about Krishna. And because we are helping, we are also hearing. We are also benefiting. When you speak to somebody about Krishna, then I hear also Krishna. Sravanam kirtanam. The first preliminary steps, hearing and chanting, are going on. So in this way we shall take all opportunities so that twenty-four hours, whether awakened or sleeping, we shall always think of Krishna. That is perfection. This chanting means always remembering Krishna—Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. I am cooking for Krishna, I am typing for Krishna, I am going to preach for Krishna, I’m distributing Back to Godhead for Krishna. In this way, always remember Krishna; that’s all. That will make you perfect.”

First Ratha Yatra in Tanggamus, Lampung, Indonesia

By Hari Narayana Das

Kota Agung is a small town located in Tanggamus, Lampung. Being the capital, it is also the most important city in Lampung. Situated at the foot of Mount Tanggamus and nearby the Gulf Coast Semaka it stands as a beautiful location for tourists. At present there are no devotees living in Tanggamus. Those who do live in Lampung, live in the ‘Gita Nagari Baru’ farm community established by HH Bhakti Raghava Swami, a five hours drive from Tanggamus!

Devotees in Indonesia received an invitation from the Tanggamus Government a few weeks prior, requesting to hold a Ratha Yatra festival there. The Government were to hold a public festival called ‘Teluk Semaka’ on the 21st Of November. The aim of the festival was to promote tourism and cultural diversity in Lampung. Devotees were ecstatic upon receiving the news and immediately made arrangements to head to Lampung. It was definitely the Lord’s mercy upon the residents of Kota Agung giving them an opportunity to come in contact with Krsna Consciousness.

Nothing is impossible for the Supreme Lord, but all His actions are wonderful for us, and thus He is always beyond the range of our conceivable limits” SP SB 1.8.16 Purport

The journey to Kota Agung through Mount Tanggamus was not the easiest. Most devotees arrived from other parts of Indonesia the day before the festival. The chariot team assembled the Lord’s cart in the city garden.

The next morning, Jagannath, along with Baladeva and Subhadra arrived along with a group of enthusiastic devotees. Final bits and pieces were put together and all was good to go. At 11.00am devotees gathered in front of Their Lordships and arati was performed. The sun shone brightly creating a peaceful atmosphere for all. Kirtan was then sung until the parade began. At 3pm, devotees pulled the chariot to the local fields, the starting point of the parade. Many locals were surprised as they had never seen Jagannath or Vaisnavas before and started to take pictures.

If we get opportunity we shall be able to overflood your country with the waves of transcendental bliss, by the grace of Krsna.”- SPL to Aniruddha, 7th July, 1968

Finally the festival started and Jagannath’s chariot got moving. The Mayor of Tanggamus was also present at the festival. Great appreciation was shown for the Lord when He entered the stage of honor along with the other acts. The Ratha Yatra committee presented the Mayor a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and a flower garland offered to the Lord. Things really got going when the chariot reached the main road. Whilst other participants slowed down to display their acts to the public, devotees turned the kirtan up a notch leaving the public struck with wonder. The chariot was pulled around the city thus giving everyone a chance to take darshan of the Lord. One ton of oranges, kindly donated by Dina Dharini devi dasi, was offered to the Lord and distributed to all. Within a short time all the oranges ran out and still people were asking for prasadam! A group of students followed the Ratha the whole journey and also chanted with the devotees. One student commented, “This is an unforgettable experience. I am so glad we can just sing and dance freely, it makes me so happy!” The kirtan party, led by Premadhana das melodiously chanted the maha mantra throughout the festival allowing all the chance to hear the holy names.

It doesn’t matter if you can or cannot establish a temple there, but if you can introduce the Ratha-yatra, surely it will be a great success. So try to execute this will as far as possible.” (SPL to Yamuna, 27th May 1969)

We would like to take this opportunity to thank HH Bhakti Raghava Swami for his blessings and encouragement. Our respects to HH Kavicandra Swami and HH Ramai Swami, the GBCs of Indonesia, for their support and guidance to always look for new avenues for sankirtan. Our humble obeisances to HH Subhag Swami for always reminding us of the importance of the Sankirtan movement of Mahaprabhu and inspiring us with the dedication of Sriman Jayananda Prabhu, for bringing us closer to Srila Prabhupada and keeping us united in family of ISKCON. We thank the leaders of Indonesia Hindu Parisad. Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the Lampung devotees who worked hard for the success of the festival. They are as follows: Atvata dasa, Santa Kumara dasa, Jadabharata dasa, Kesava dasa, Krishna Prema dasa, Dharmatma Dasa, Sudharsan dasa, Janesvara dasa, Teja Vrsaya dasa, Visvakarma dasa, Narayani devi dasi, Vibawati devil dasi, Mrganitri devi dasi, bhakta Gede, Dharmaraj dasa, Dhananjaya dasa, Radha Govinda devi dasi, Bhaktin Ganga. , Sarvajnana dasa, Ganga Narayana dasa, Pak Kadek Sayang, Vyasa deva, Sruta Deva dasa, Kalindi devi dasi, Vainateya dasa, Bhakta Mesi, Vamana dasa, Trivikrama dasa and Buddhi Yoga Dasa.

We hope that we can hold more festivals here in the years to come.

Iskcon Aligarh- Bhoomi Pujan – 2015
→ Dandavats

By Mohan Sunder Das

With a pure desire in their heart to spread Lord Sri Chaitanya’s message to one and all, Aligarh devotees worked day in and day out on the land donated by Dr. Maheshwar Pratap Varshney.

Dr. Varshney, an ardent follower of the Bhagwad Gita, donated 4 acres of land to ISKCON because he had firm faith on ISKCON for spreading Lord Sri Hari’s ‘Gita’, Bhagwad Gita.

The devotees worked very hard and finally saw the very eventful day of ‘Ground Breaking Ceremony’ on 13th November’2015 in the auspicious presence of HH Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj, HH Navyogendra Swami Maharaj, HG Devakinandan Das and HH Kratu Maharaj himself.

The preparations started for the event started three days before it where the members of IYF-C2C distributed invitations in all parts of Aligarh by performing Nagar Kirtan’s in various places, markets and localities. A beautiful house programme was also organised by Mr. Kalyan Singh, who happens to be the Governor Rajasthan and Himachal pradesh. The previous night of the programme, disciples of HH Kratu Maharaj themselves dug the land for Lord Ananta Shesha to rest in it.

The next morning began with enlivening kirtan and dance performances by the members of IYF-C2C. The yagya began in the presence of HH Kratu Maharaj, his wife HG Amrita Keli Dasi and the senior disciples of HH Kratu Maharaj.
The presence of HH Navyogendra Swami Maharaj, HH Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj and HG Devakinandan Das made the whole environment divine who then installed Ananta Shesha in the ground followed by gau daan.

All the divine personalities including Dr. Varshney and Mr Kalyan Singh expressed their feelings about the temple and ISKCON’s philosophy which encouraged a large number of people to give some amount of their earnings to the temple.

A sumptuous prasadam and Vaishnava songs by the youngsters winded up the day in absolute bliss and satisfaction.

Hare Krsna,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

In November, the most improved temple throughout the world was Toronto, with a 492% increase and 6,144 book points. In Toronto, in November, it’s cold, but still the devotees did the yajna and had a huge increase. All glories to their determination to get Krishna’s message out to people despite the cold weather! Of course, other places also get cold, like parts of Europe and Asia where the temperature falls below freezing. It may be cold in these places, but there are devotees with such warm pearts that they aren’t affected by the cold and they melt the hearts of the people they meet. Krsna says, “Acts of sacrifice, charity and penance are not to be given up; they must be performed. Indeed, sacrifice, charity and penance purify even the great souls.” (Bg. 18.5)

December 22. ISKCON 50 – S.Prabhupada Daily Meditations.
“Although we are unable to glorify you adequately, we nonetheless have a transcendental taste to glorify your activities. We shall try to glorify you according to the instructions received from authoritative sages and scholars. Whatever we speak, however, is always inadequate and very insignificant.” – Bhag. 4.16.3 Discussion of the activities of mahatmas will help us to become better devotees. When a young disciple of Srila Prabhupada’s sent him an original poem, “Eight Verses in Praise of My Spiritual Master,” Prabhupada replied that it was “very nice and thoughtful.” He encouraged his disciple to continue praising the Vaisnavas: “May Krishna bless you to improve more and more in writing the glories of our previous acaryas and the Lord. Be engaged in glorifying the parampara system and your life will be glorified automatically thousands of times.” – Letter August 14, 1971

TO BE UNDERSTOOD AND LOVED—WARTS AND ALL!

Karnamrita Das

In addition to attempting to help others, one of the reason I continue to write is to better understand myself. Looking at my basic desires and insecurities, I ask why? Why do I want to love so much and have others love me? It seems obsessive. Ah, the quest to be understood as I am, and to fully understand others as they are—and of course, to fully understand myself and encourage others to understand themselves as well. Self-introspection and awareness are essential.

On one level, perhaps the deepest level is the spiritual desire for total love, connection, and oneness with our “Maker” as they say, or our “Source,” “Creator,” etc., etc., or more personally on my path of bhakti, to Krishna with his Radha, or Chaitanya and Nitai, and all their energies, and associates, like my gurus and previous acharyas.

I understand the purpose of the false ego (though I don’t much like it) as a protective mechanism for souls who want to enjoy and exploit the material world and think of themselves as separate and independent—all in their own way and to varying degrees. By nature our sense in a material body and mind is to feel incomplete and in need and this fuels our search for love and fullness, and thus our continual attempt to do this, birth after birth, in countless different forms and circumstances until we learn that souls can only be happy outside the confines of matter.

The cure for material desires?
→ KKSBlog

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 20 October 2015, Chowpatty, India, Srimad Bhagavatam 10.69.41)

Question: It happens, especially in household life, that the desires for sense gratification are many times taking over our focus, although we try to keep Krsna in the center. Years are inevitably going by and those desires are still not being completely wiped off, despite our practices. In that situation, what should a devotee do to increase the process of becoming thoroughly Krsna conscious?

In all the ashrams, material desires are there. Only when one has fully awakened his attachment to Krsna, do material desires go away – not any earlier. So it is really about awaking our attachment to Krsna, and it is something we just do not allow ourselves to do. It is almost as if we ourselves are consciously the obstacles. It is as if we are saying to ourselves, ‘No, we will not appreciate Krsna because we are going to spend time with our material desires!’ These material desires, they are so strong, these material desires are always on our mind and we systematically think about them, every second of the day and we do not think of Krsna! You may chant sixteen rounds but not think of Krsna! You may read but you sleep at the same time – you do not think of Krsna and do not remember Krsna!

19Dec2015It looks like this is what we have been doing all this time! Sometimes I give the example of the mind (singing Govindam tune), ‘Govindam, adi purusam… what will be for breakfast today!?’ to show how the mind is absent and how we are so distracted in our spiritual life, out of habit. So let us become more conscious of what we are doing, let us appreciate more. We can actually start appreciating Krsna a bit more and make a habit out of that. It does make a difference, it really helps. So many wonderful things have happened and are happening in our lives and we should contemplate on those nice things and practice saying it.

‘The deities are looking so nice, what a nice darshan, such a nice dress, who designed it? And who dressed the deities? Who made the garlands? And all the other arrangements are actually so nice!’

One just has to stop being negative and rather be positive and recognize the positive by saying it. The more we make habit out of that then we simply realize that there is so much taste. And if we do not practice this, we will find that all this time, we were externally doing everything but not tasting it, because we were simply inattentive to Krsna, inattentive to appreciating things. In this way, all that we could see is, ‘Struggle, struggle… material desires! Oh, so much struggle with the never-ending material desires!’

Material desires. Let us analyze it – what is there, what is it? What is so good in the material world? A new phone… is it that good? Not really! A new wife… better than the old one?  No, it is still the same. So we must consciously appreciate all the good things we have and the more we do so, the more these material desires will begin to look insignificant. If we are negative towards spiritual life, it means we are not appreciative enough, so we should be more appreciative of all the wonderful things in Krsna consciousness – that is the cure.

Cure for the Chronic Disease of Fault finding by HG Gaur Gopal das (video)
Is fault finding really that bad or really that detrimental to our spiritual lives? Srila Prabhupada describes it as a sinful activity. “Those who are committing sins like illicit sex, fault-finding, and unjustified violence rarely attain spiritual knowledge or realization. Sinful activities deepen the dark gloom of ignorance, while pious activities bring the light of transcendental knowledge into one’s life.” Srila Prabhupada Puts Fault Finding Right Up There With Illicit Sex And Unjustified Violence (Meat Eating).

Gita Values

There are many ways to study the Bhagavad-gita. Recently, devotees have considered the Gita from the point of view of what essential values/principles Krishna teaches in this sacred book. They chose six key points: 1. Dharma (right action) 2. Sama Darshana (equal vision) 3. amanitva (humility) 4. iccha (choice/desire) 5. Ahimsa (without cruelty) 6. Priti (affection)

Indradyumna Swami: The holy town of Udupi lies on the Arabian Sea in the South Indian state of Karnataka. The town is famous as a place of pilgrimage because of the temple Sri Krishna Matha. This temple was founded by Srila Madhvacharya (A.D. 1238 -1317), one of the greatest saints, philosophers, and religious reformers of India. Udupi is said to have attained the status of Vaikuntha, the kingdom of God, because the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in the form of a Deity ( Udupi Krishna ) came and stayed there in response to the desire of His pure devotee, Srila Madhvacharya. The worship of Udupi Krishna is still going on after many centuries in a very elaborate way. Yesterday myself and Bada Haridas prabhu visited Sri Krishna Math and took darshan of Udupi Krishna. We came away most inspired!

Vedic Cosmology: Integrating God and Physics

Vedic Cosmology: Integrating God and Physics.
One of the strongest points of tension that often comes up in cosmology between science and religion is the age of the universe. Some interpretations of the Bible calculate it to be about 6,000 years old, while the most recent calculation according to the Lambda-CDM concordance model is 13.8 billion years. The Vedic literatures see the manifestation and eventual destruction of the universe, like most events in nature, as a periodic occurrence and give it in trillions of years.

Four years ago I got a phone call at three in the morning. Minutes later I couldn’t control my tears and the only thing I knew to do was to take shelter of Panca Tattva. Standing in front of their Lordships in a daze the tears came again as I felt your absence. My heart hurt, my heart still hurts. Your love for Krsna, Prabhupada, and all of us met no bounds, and a moment with you was like a hundred as time stood still and I couldn’t take my eyes from you. Your love was real, your spiritual vision was real, your taste for the holy name was real, your Bhakti was real, your loyalty to Prabhupada was real, and sitting at your feet experiencing all this I couldn’t move, completely overwhelmed.

But Aunty, four years later and I feel your absence less and less because my memories of you are ever strong. Whatever glimpses of taste you gave me burn ever encouraging in my heart, glimpses of a goal I one day desire to reach. I feel you present in my japa and kirtan. I feel you present in my relationship with my spiritual master, as your instructions guided me and your presence with Gurudev and I during those special moments completed my spiritual family. I feel your presence when I cook, you said to me:

“I’m so glad you are already tasting the Radharani Cooking Zone. Just gives me so much happiness to hear this.”

I will never forget those words when I’m in the kitchen, as I try to apply the principles of cooking for Krishna that you taught me.
I know you are with me and I pray the rest of my life can be lived in service to you. I love you Aunty Yamuna, how I wish I could sit at your feet again and hear you speak, but I am nonetheless overwhelmed with gratitude for the moments we’ve had together. As you once wrote to me: “Because we are separated by miles means nothing, for we are always together in heart.”
Aunty, even now I know we are connected in our hearts.

How I regret my foolishness and ignorance in your presence, the time I forgot to reply to your email, and that day I couldn’t go to Ambika Kalna with you, please please forgive me Aunty.
My love for you only increases every day. Please continue to guide and protect me by keeping me at your feet and enveloped in your strong intense embrace.
Your servant,
Vani dd

The latest issue of Sri Krishna-kathamrita Bindu e-magazine, # 365, was just released. Anuprasa has been frequently employed by various Gaudiya acaryas in their prayers to Sri Sri Radha and Krishna. This article provides a brief perusal of the use of anuprasa in their writings with many things translated for the first time. It can be downloaded here: https://archive.org/details/bindu365

Iskcon wishes to President of India

Dear Maharajas and Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Recently, we had a big networking opportunity as ISKCON was officially invited to attend the birth day celebration event of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, who turned 81 on Dec 11th, 2015.

The august gathering witnessed presence of many matteraties, including the Prime Minister and other dignitaries from far flung areas of the country. .As a gesture of mercy and blessing, we gave Mahaprasad of Shri Shri Radhaparth Sarthi and Pushp Guchcha of Lord Narshimha deva to the president which he warmly received and reciprocated with delight and appreciation.

For ISKCON, he has been supportive and largely appreciative of our initiatives. Occasions such as these help us mark our presence amongst those who matter. And by Srila Prabhupada’s grace we get recognized as a peaceful organization focused on spreading the Holy name.

December 21. ISKCON 50 – S.Prabhupada Daily Meditations.
In the first year in New York before he started ISKCON, Prabhupada’s life was full of risk and adventure. His coming to America was itself a risk. We can’t imagine what it was like for Prabhupada to be without money in a foreign country and yet to dare to present Krishna consciousness. If at any point he had gone back to India, after the robbery in his room on 70th Street, or on any of those Scindia return voyages, or after he had to leave the Bowery when Mr. Paul went crazy – if at any point he had gone back, then we would never have been born. Sometimes he had to abandon the strict regulations of sannyasa in order to stay and do the more important work of spreading Krishna consciousness. When he stayed in Carl Yeargen’s apartment, he had to keep his food in the same refrigerator where Carl kept cat food.
